Crowds stopped being hot like that when Triple H took over as top star in '02. Coincidence.

The Brand Split started in the WWE at that time and they're became two seperate main event pictures. The prestige of the main event picture seemed to decrease and the two hottest stars of this generation were gone. (Austin, Rock)
It was a new "WWE" era and the crowds have never been the same, I wouldn't really blame HHH although there was a time where he really needed to get the F out.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Wrestlemania 20
World Heavyweight Championship
Triple H (c) vs. Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels
This match in my books is one of the greatest Wrestlemana main events of all time. Chris, Paul, and Shawn played their characters to absolute perfection in this 25 minute match up, and truely put on an inspirational performance.
Leading up to the match, we had the champion Triple H who didn't win or lose his match against Shawn Michaels at the Royal Rumble, but still retained the title. We had Shawn Michaels, the guy who thought he deserved another match for the title, and ended up getting injected into the main event. Then we had Chris Benoit, the veteran of 18 years in pro wrestling, who after winning the Royal Rumble match from entering number one, took the jump over to Raw, and challenged for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 20.
The match itself was a pure classic Triple Threat. Although the 'two on one' style usually portrayed in this style of match up wasn't always there, the differen't combinations proved to be just as strong, and kept the entertainment exciting, with nothing boring or dull. There really isn't a lot to point out here as the action was pretty much all back to forward, other than it was back and forward, and done to the top ability of all three wrestlers. There were a few unforgetable moments. These include the double suplex done by Triple H and Shawn Michaels. JR said it best "They didn't even say a word". This set up the one on one exchange between the two. Something I have never really seen before was Triple H literally stopping Shawn Michaels from tapping out by grabbing his arm. Along with that, his beat down on both Benoit and Michaels where he flinged Michaels hurt shoulder first into a Benoit caught in the tree of woe, was done so well that he really lived up to his name of being the cerebral assassin. The ending was simply brilliant. With Michaels out of the equation, and Triple H caught in the Crossface, Benoit was just moments away from winning the title. While trying to counter it by rolling Benoit over, Benoit used the momentum to keep rolling and got Triple H in the center of the ring. After more and more time, locked in the Crossface, Triple H could do nothing but tap.
The aftermath was also unforgettable for every fan of wrestling. Lifetime friend of Benoit, Guerrero came to the ring. As both WWE Champion and World Heavyweight Champion were standing in the ring, you knew they were both thinking "We've finally done it, brother".
Everything about this match can be described with only one word, and I stand by it, no matter what anyone else says.
Perfect *****

Thanks, Troy.
Chiller your ratings were a tad high for me to but it's fine since that show is just ACE, and the promo's inbetween and appearances by RAW, SD, Mick Foley and Steve Austin all helped the show's quality. A must own for any wrestling fan without a doubt.
Malenko vs Rey **** 1/4 Halloween Havoc 1996
Rey vs Super Calo Fall Brawl ****
Rey vs Ultimate Dragon *** 3/4
Rey vs Jushin Thunder Liger **** Starrcade 96
A lot of good back to back matches in the later part on Disc 1 of Rey that's for sure.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Summerslam 2004
World Heavyweight Championship
Chris Benoit (c) vs. Randy Orton
Leading up to this match, Chris Benoit had proved to be a true World Champion by further defeating Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and Kane. After winning a battle royal two weeks prior, Randy Orton became the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship at Summerslam, and got the oppertunaty to become the youngest World Champion in the WWE's history.
It started off back and forward by both men. Randy showed some rookie mistakes, but still proved to be quite a challenge by countering Benoit's attempt at a Sharpshooter, into his own Sharpshooter. Eventually the fight went to the outside, where everything seemed to flow well. Back in the ring, Orton begins working on the arm, until Benoit fights back and hits a high impact ddt out on the apron. After a two count in the ring, Orton rolls to the outside to slow the pace down, and eventually is rested enough to dodge a wicked looking suicide dive by Benoit, who hits head first into the barricade (how he protected himself, I don't know). Orton begins to put on an impressive disply of working a body part in the ring, by working on the neck of Benoit. The momentum is eventually at nil, and as both men get to their feet, Benoit proves why he is known as the greatest wrestler of all time by completely out wrestling Orton. During another period of nobody having the momentum (after Orton blocking a diving headbutt with his feet), Orton catches Benoit literally out of nowhere with the RKO for the pin, the win, and the World Heavyweight Championship.
Another great aftermath by Benoit as he enters the ring while Orton is celebrating and shakes the hand of the new champion after telling him "Be a man!". A lot of respect was given to the former champion, which was great to see by the youngest world champion in WWE's history.
Overall, this was a great performance by both superstars. The story of the match was very well done, and something you don't see a lot. It was a pure wrestling match. There were no interferences, and hardly any cheating tactics. There was a lot of back and forth action. With Orton really stepping up to the plate as a worthy championship contender. The exchanges were done very well, and the ending was... well out of nowhere literally. I thought this was a very good thing to have included in the match. It only takes a three count to win, and that can come out of nowhere. It fit in with the whole traditional wrestling match style portrayed throughout the match. This is easily a high quality main event for a PPV that is very rare to see.
