Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Triple H jobbing to only guy in the company that wouldn't make him look weak puts a really sour taste in my mouth about that match. Why couldn't he put over Angle, Benoit, or Jericho (aka the guys he feuded with for most of 2000)? Ridiculous.

1989 was probably the greatest year of all time, wrestling wise.

Yeah, I'd go to ****1/2 for Wargames though. Really enjoyed that match. The crowd was rabid for it too.

I enjoyed Taker/HHH but what hurt the match for me was the fact that an elbow drop knocked out the ref for over 10 minutes. I just wasn't buying that. If they wanted to have the sort of match they had why not just book it as No Holds Barred or Falls Count Anywhere?

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Probably because there was already like 6 No DQ matches on the card. Became repetitive after a while.

Yeah, I saw it about 6 years ago and I remember it being a good match. I liked the way Benoit was getting a major push and actually won the title for about 30 seconds. Matches like these really do go unknown as they havent been released on DVD. Unforgiven was solid as a whole, Hardys won the title in the steel cage that night if I remember. The crowd popped so much.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Just for the record I can't put Michaels/Undertaker HIAC in my 5 star list. I have it at ****3/4 but I think the match deserves nothing more. Talking of HIAC matches, my favorite match would probably be Michaels/HHH (for story telling and amazing chemistry) and Foley/Trips (because Foley is insane and the prize at stake). Whilst Foley/Undertaker was amazing for its bumps wrestling wise it was awful but entertainment wise you can't go no less than *****.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
HHH/HBK HIAC is underrated by a lot of people. It gets a lot of hate but I think it's an awesome match. ****1/4 imo.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Since it is Wrestlemania 24 tomorrow I thought I would continue my 2007 PPV reviews with Wrestlemania 23.
Wrestlemania 23 Review
Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Jeff Hardy vs. King Booker vs. Matt Hardy vs. Edge vs. Randy Orton vs. Finlay vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. CM Punk
I ordered this PPV and this was one of the matches I was really looking forward to.
For the first time the MITB Ladder Match opens Wrestlemania (The other 2 were 2nd).
This was the first MITB match to have 8 people in it (The Other 2 had 6).
This match wasn’t as good as I thought it would be but it was still very good. The worst thing in this match was the fact that there were 8 people in it. I thought it would be better but at times in got cluttered and some people didn’t get much offense in while some got lots. I think if they stayed with 6 it would have made this match better as they could have taken 2 people out and either had a singles match between them or tag match etc.
Funny spot where Booker pulled out a step ladder.
I enjoyed the spot where both the Hardy’s climbed the ladder and then started fighting. I liked the way they were booked in the early part of the match. Another good spot in the match was where Edge speared everyone in the match except for CM Punk who sent Edge into the corner. Punk then picked up the ladder and put it on his head and spun around. Edge then speared Punk which I thought was good.
My favourite spot in the match was when Jeff Hardy jumped off the ladder onto Edge who was on a ladder on the outside and the ladder snapped in half. The ladder that Hardy jumped off was huge and when I was watching this live I didn’t know whether he was actually going to jump. When he did I was shocked but though the spot was amazing. On newer WWE DVD’s this is put in the Do not try this at home part. The only part I didn’t like about this spot was the fact that Hardy didn’t come back into the match at all.
There were more good spots in the match like Orton RKO’ing Punk off the ladder, Booker hitting a book end off the ladder and the green bay plunge on Hornswoggle off the top of the ladder.
Ending was ok with Kennedy hitting Punk with a ladder and then climbing the ladder to get the briefcase.
Overall not as good as the first MITB match but better then the second. A good start for Wrestlemania 23.
Match Rating: ****
Kane vs. The Great Khali
This was one of the matches that I wasn’t looking forward to but at least they get it over and done with early on.
Khali dominated the match with Kane getting a little fight back and slamming Khali like Hogan did at Wrestlemania 3 against Andre. I thought the match would end there but Khali fought back and nailed Kane with a chop for the win.
A boring match that didn’t need to be on the show.
Match Rating: ˝*
United States Championship: Chris Benoit vs. MVP
I was expecting this match to be very good but it turned out to be a good match. I didn’t know how MVP would go in a big match as I hadn’t seen much of his work but I knew if anyone could have a good match with him it would be Chris Benoit.
This would be Chris Benoit’s final ever Wrestlemania match, Thanks for the memories Chris Benoit.
This match turned out to be good and was a good match to watch. I was really impressed but MVP in this match and the amount of moves he performed was good and he performed then all well. I hadn’t seen him in many matches but this match made me like him a lot more.
The match had a good story to it with MVP showing he could mat wrestle with Benoit and was actually out mat wrestling him. I liked how MVP was working on Benoit’s arm.
The match should have been given more time IMO. The ending seemed rushed IMO as Benoit did not attempt the crossface much and I was shocked when it was over and the diving headbutt. I would have liked for Benoit to attempt the crossface more during the match as then the ending would have made more sense.
Overall a good match between these 2 and this made me like MVP a lot more.
Match Rating: ***1/4
World Heavyweight Championship: Batista vs. The Undertaker
I didn’t know how this match would turn out. All I knew was I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was.
This was a very good match and was the first of 5 matches these 2 had and maybe the best.
This was being built up as Streak vs. Title which I liked.
I don’t know why this match was so early on the card. Taker had won the Royal Rumble for the first time and was finally going for a title at Wrestlemania in a long time and they were put on 4th. I think this match should have either been last or near the end.
This was a brutal match and I enjoyed it the whole way through. Batista did a nice spear to start the match and it never slowed down from there. They brawled on the outside which ended up with Taker getting power slammed through an announcer’s table.
The last 10 minutes to this match were great. I liked how Batista kicked out of the Last Ride and then Taker kicked out of the Batista Bomb. I was watching this live and was 90% sure that Taker would win but it was still a good ending with either man looking like they could win.
Taker eventually got the win after a Tombstone and remained undefeated at Wrestlemania.
Overall a surprising match that was very good. The best match these 2 had IMO.
Match Rating: ****
ECW Originals (RVD, Sabu, Sandman and Tommy Dreamer) vs. The New Breed (Elijah Burke, Kevin Thorn, Marcus Cor Von and Matt Striker)
This match was placed on the card very well. I think it was a good choice to follow Taker vs. Batista. Of course it wasn’t nowhere near as good as Taker/Batista but was a still an ok tag match.
This match went for about 8 minutes which I would have liked a few more minutes. Something else I would have liked for this to be under extreme rules. This was ECW’s first match at Wrestlemania and I would have liked it to be under extreme rules. These 2 teams had a great extreme rules match on ECW the following week.
The tag work in this match from The New Breed was ok and they worked on Tommy Dreamer for most of the match. Dreamer got a tag to RVD and then the match got good. Both teams brawled until everyone was on the outside except RVD and Striker, the 2 legal men. RVD nailed the 5 star frog splash for the win.
Overall it was good to see ECW represented at Wrestlemania.
Match Rating: **1/4
Battle of the Billionaires (Hair vs. Hair): Bobby Lashley W/Donald Trump vs. Umaga W/Vince McMahon
This match had a huge build up and was one of the reasons Wrestlemania 23 got so much buyrates and attendance.
I thought this match wouldn’t be great but the entertainment would make up for it and make it watchable. It did.
Lashley and Umaga both did their best but they are not the world’s best wrestlers. Stone Cold did well as referee. I think it was a good choice adding him as special guest referee as it added to the match. I enjoyed the spot where he dragged Umaga off the ropes by grabbing his hair.
Stone Cold got hit with the Samoan Spike and then Shane McMahon got involved in the match and hit a coast to coast on Bobby Lashley which I thought was good.
Stone Cold got back up and Umaga hit another Samoan Spike on him. Trump then took out McMahon, Stone Cold got up and nailed Umaga with a Stunner and then Lashley followed it up for the win.
Overall this match wasn’t the greatest wrestling match but it was entertaining and a fun match. After the match Vince tried to escape but Stone Cold and Lashley caught him and with Donald Trump’s Help they made him bald. Stone Cold hit a Stunner on Trump after that had happened.
Match Rating: **3/4
Women’s Championship: Ashley vs. Melina (Lumberjill Match)
Boring Match.
The best part of it was getting to see all the divas.
Melina wins after a roll up in about 4 minutes. The lumberjill’s were only used once for the whole match.
Match Rating: DUD
WWE Championship: John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels
I was looking forward to this match. I didn’t know what this match would be like though but it turned out to be very good.
I was really hoping that Michaels would win the WWE championship here but I didn’t think he would. Michaels deserves another title reign and as JR and King said Michaels hasn’t held the WWE championship for 9 years. The only world title reign he has had since then was a month reign as World Heavyweight Champion.
It was given a lot of time which was good.
This match started out well but I would have liked for it to be a little more even earlier in the match. Some parts in the opening parts seemed to drag on but it wasn’t that bad. Michaels hit a nice springboard from the ring to the outside onto the announcer’s table which Cena was on.
Michaels did some nice work on the leg of Cena and used a variety of moves which was good. The problem with this was that a lot of it was in the corner and not much in the centre of the ring.
The biggest problem in this match was the fact that Cena didn’t sell all the leg work that Michaels did. He sold it for the first half of the match but then he just stopped selling and it made Shawn Michael’s entire work look weak.
Michaels hit a really nice piledriver onto the ring steps when the referee was down. It looked really good.
The last 10 minutes of this match were very good with a lot of near falls including when Michaels reversed the F-U into a roll up, that was good but it was a little slow. Cena hit an F-U for a near fall. Another nice spot was where Michaels come off the top rope and Cena caught him and rolled throughed and went for an F-U only for Michaels to land on his feet and go for Sweet chin music, Cena ducked and went for the STF-U but Michaels reversed it, Cena went for it again but Michaels reversed it and rolled Cena up only to get a near fall. This was a great sequence of moves.
Michaels got another near fall when Cena was arguing with the referee and when Cena turned around Michaels nailed him with Sweet chin music only to get another near fall.
Ending came when Michaels reversed an F-U only to be locked into the STF-U and after about 25 seconds tapped out.
Overall a very good match and equal MOTN with Batista vs. The Undertaker.
Match Rating: ****
MOTN: The Undertaker vs. Batista (****) and Shawn Michaels vs. John Cena (****)
Overall PPV Rating: 8.5/10. This PPV was very good and the best PPV of the year. I liked the 2 world title matches and the MITB ladder match.
My Next Review: The Other 2007 PPV's (So Far I have done Wrestlemania 23, Unforgiven, Cyber Sunday, Armageddon, Survivor Series and No Mercy, if there are any particular ones people want me to do next please say)
I hope people enjoyed reading this review. Feedback would be much appreciated as would your views on this PPV.
