David Beckham?
In all seriousness a COTC DVD doesn't interest me that much, but a StarrCade one certainly does.

pfft-How many titles has Beckham won? oh wait that came out sort of wrong
Lets get a new discussion going-whats the worst WWE dvd? my vote is RAW X, the whole thing is put together horrible and the actual award show was boring.
Infact the only good thing about the award show was Trish's Dress

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Austin101's- WWE Backlash 2003 Review:
"The Rock Says.....Goodbye"
-Live on PPV Sunday, April the 27th at the Worcester Centrum in Worcester, Massachusetts. The official theme song was "Remedy" by Cold.
-The main feud heading into the event was between The Rock and Goldberg. The Rock after defeating and retiring Austin at Wrestlemania X-9 said he had done it all the night after. Then "THE MAN" made his WWE Debut and speared The Rock setting up a match between the two at Backlash. The SD Main Event Scene had Lesnar defending his title against Cena which was rather shocking seeing how Cena was pretty new.
-On Sunday Night Heat Scott Steiner defeated Rico after a Steiner Flatliner at 2:27. Yes, Steiner who failed in the main event scene and didn't make the Mania card the month before.
-The broadcasters for this PPV were Jonathan Coachman (Where was JR!?) who was still a BABYFACE and Jerry "The King" Lawler.
Now, onto the PPV......
1) Team Angle (Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas) vs Los Guerreros (Eddie and Chavo Guerrero) for the WWE Tag Team Championship
This was the best match of the night and it was the opener.
That doesen't say much about your PPV but at least this one was good.
It wasn't as good as it could have been but that just goes to show how good these four are in the ring. They are capable of more but this one flowed as you'd expect very well. No complaints at all here.
Lots of fast tags, fast moves, team work and psychology. Everything bottled into one great tag team opener from the Smackdown brand!
Haas pinned Chavo after Benjamin clipped Chavo's legs during a suplex attempt at 15:03 to retain the tag team titles.
*** 1/4
2) Sean O'Haire (w/Roddy Piper) vs Rikishi
I've seen people call this ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.
They weren't to far off, but I wouldn't go that far. It was just kind of pointless.
It's really to bad O'Haire never worked out, he had a lot of potential. Especially with Rowdy by his side.
O'Haire pinned Rikishi after the Prophecy at 4:52.
3/4*
3) Rob Van Dam and Kane vs The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) (w/Chief Morley as special referee) for the World Tag Team Championship
A fast paced tag match that never got dull. I need to credit the WWE on this one, it was a very good match that felt PPV quality over the regular RAW type tag match we get fed more then often on PPV's.
Very good.
RVD pinned Bubba Ray after a Five-Star Frog Splash at 13:01 to retain the World Tag Team Titles.
** 3/4
4) Jazz (w/Theodore Long) vs Trish Stratus for the WWE Women's Championship
Boring as all fucking hell.
Jazz pinned Stratus countering a springboard sunset flip attempt and using the ropes for leverage at 5:50 to win the Women's title.
This made Trish's BIG WIN at WM X-9 sort of meaningless for her to lose it this fast.
*
5) The Big Show vs Rey Mysterio
David vs Goliath.
Nothing note worthy here except what took place AFTER THE MATCH.
Big Show pinned Mysterio after a Chokeslam at 3:47.
With Mysterio on a stretcher The Big Show grabbed it and SLAMMED it against the ring post.
Funny and SICK at the same time. This reminded me of when Lesnar F-5'd Zack Gowen against the ring post with his one leg, except that happened on Smackdown later in the year of 2003.
* 1/4
6) Brock Lesnar vs John Cena for the WWE Championship
John Cena got to main event a PPV this quick. Wow. I guess it wasn't the MAIN-"MAIN" event but still a title match on a PPV is pretty shocking considering he didn't even make the Wrestlemania 19 card the month before and would be a curtain jerker in a tag match the month after this.
Still his character was VERY GOOD as a heel at this point in time and his raps against Brock were as well.
Lesnar and Cena worked tremendous together heel for the most part during this match. It turned bloody and the two tried to wrestle a smart match from a psychological stand point and for the most part it worked well.
Lesnar pinned Cena after an F-5 at 15:14 to retain the title.
One of the better matches of the night and perhaps Cena's first GREAT match.
***
7) Triple H, Ric Flair and Chris Jericho vs HBK Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash and Booker T
The Game teamed with Flair and the HEEL Y2J Chris Jericho to take on Nash who he was beginning a feud with, Booker T who he was ending a feud with and Shawn Michaels who he is always either teaming or feuding with.
Yes in 2003 it was indeed All About The Game. How it was played on this night was good in parts, slow in others. Booker T and Triple H have pretty good chemistry, some would call it slow but I like the way they work together in the ring, especially at Wrestlemania X-9. Since this was a tag match though it was fast paced and less methodical.
Still though there were parts where the guys in the ring (Flair-Nash) weren't up to par with the workrate of the other partners. (Jericho-HBK)
Jericho and HBK did steal the show at Wrestlemania the month before and they did some decent work here as well. This match though was booked around Triple H and Nash who would begin a few months worth of a god awful feud. So because of that of course the finish involved HHH and Nash.
Triple H pinned Nash after a sledgehammer shot to the head at 17:51 for his teams win.
Pretty entertaining overall, but nothing overly special.
** 3/4
8) Main Event- Goldberg vs The Rock
Here we go.
This match was billed as "The Dream Match" and while it was always a nice idea, everyone knows the "The Dream Match" with Goldberg was always Goldberg vs Steve Austin, but that just couldn't happen due to his health. If only Goldberg had signed with the WWE in 2001 then a FACE Goldberg vs a HEEL Austin had the potential of being very good. Not 1998 GOOD (as that would be a huge draw) but still good none the less.
People often consider this Goldberg vs Rock match a major dissapointment, or just lackluster. I don't really know what everyone expected. Goldberg wasn't exactly the best WRESTLER and he had a lot of time off before this, so he was rusty and it showed considering this match was sloppy in parts.
It basically relied on The Rock and his humor and great acting skills as a heel. A lot of the fans were into the Hollywood Rock character so obvioussly "Goldberg Sucks" chants were in the air and that didn't help the push of Big Bill.
The booking is another thing that didn't help Goldberg's push that Linda McMahon would eventually call "A Failure." It by all means was.
This match however was a failure if you were expecting something HUGE but decent if you're expecting what you think it would be. It didn't let me down as I didn't set my expectations very high to begin with.
Goldberg pinned The Rock after two Spears and a Jackhammer at 13:03.
Entertainment over Wrestling gives it a decent grade and nothing more.
** 1/4
------------------------------------------------------------------
Final Rating for WWF Backlash 2003 = 5.5/10
This show had it's ups and downs but it was mostly downs. Most of the matches were very mediocre and the Main Event was dissapointing. To make matters worse inbetween matches there were TERRIBLE and I mean TERRIBLE segments with Stacy, Torrie and Sable regarding Test and a possible love triangle scenario that I'm not even going to bother talking about. It just makes wrestling look bad and this kind of stuff is bad enough on TV, no one wanted to see it on a PPV, not sure what they were thinking. After the show The Rock gets on the mic and has some fun with the crowd and says Goodbye which is a great DVD extra to have. For good on the show, the opener was very good as was the Raw tag team matches, and then Cena vs Lesnar. Those are the only reasons to watch this PPV so unless you really want to see that, don't bother with Backlash 2003.
Feedback appreciated as always if you want to discuss.....

I've never seen backlash 2003 and from your review i'm in no hurry, it sounds horrible.

Obscure? Really? I don't understand how these DVD's are in any way obscure.
You wern't pointing out the truth. You were arrogantly suggesting that the only reason WWE were posting TNA news on their website was for hits. The people who suggested TNA had been bought by WWE are idiots, but trying to outsmart them made you look the bigger fool, which of course you are.
How could you have thought you had proved somebody wrong when this discussion started about me proving to you that there were genuine ECW DVD's available for sale, and there are, so if anyone has proved someone wrong it would be me proving you wrong. Bitch.

Who was I trying to outsmart? I was just stating the most obvious, logical, and sensical conclusion about the subject.
What are you like 12 years old or something? Jesus, I'm over this and you should be too.
You really didn't prove anything, but if it makes you feel any better, have your cookie if you'd like.
Onto actual discussion, great review Austin.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Despite Rock/Goldberg being decent at best I'd still like to see it on Rock's DVD because of it's historical importance.

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
The best bit about Rock/Goldberg was the Rocks Interaction with the crowd after the match (an extra on the DVD).

Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread
Matches I want on Rock's DVD:
Rock/Austin WM19
Rock/Jericho No Mercy 2001
Rock/Jericho Royal Rumble 2002
Rock/Mankind RR '99
Rock/Mankind St. Valentines Day Massacre
Rock/Mankind Ladder match Raw '99
Rock/Hogan WM18
Rock/HHH Backlash '00
Rock/HHH JD '00 (Still haven't seen, but I hear nothing but great things about it, and I'm interested in seeing it)
Rock vs Eddie (Raw)
It's highly unlikely we'll get all three matches with Mankind, or the JD match, but I'd still like to have them. No Angle or Benoit matches really hurts this set, but it should still be great, anyway.
