You know, something just hit me about one of the matches on Austin's upcoming DVD. The Survivor Series No-Holds-Barred match with Triple H will have to be edited, because after HHH leads Austin backstage, Chris Benoit and The Radicals attack Austin, and Benoit tries to lead Austin to the parking lot where HHH is waiting with the car that Austin eventually puts on a forklift and drops to the ground to end the PPV.

Without the ambush and Benoit going out into the parking lot with Austin following, the whole setup for the big stunt is ruined.

They might keep it in since Benoit isn't advertised to be in that match if that makes any sense.

It will probably be left in since they have stated that Benoit matches won't be edited out of the Summerslam set they just won't be using his name to promote the set so since he's not named in the match listing he should be left in.

Summerslam 1998 Review

European Championship: D’ Lo Brown vs. Val Venis ***¼

A very good opener and Venis sold his back very well and D’ Lo had that stupid chest protector I loved that gimmick he had. Fantastic Cloverleaf by D’ Lo as well as a beautiful counter to Val’s Diving Crossbody. D lo hit’s a “picture perfect” DDT according to King and it was. Both men have really impressed me. They botched a powerbomb which keeps this from a higher score. Fantastic back and forth action, keeps the crowd hot JR was on form at commentary. What a crap ending! A Great match with an awful ending. This match could have been great without the really bad ending. Basically Venis took off D’ Lo’s chest protector and wore it but the ref tried to pull him off and accidentally low blowed him and then Val pushed the ref and got DQ’ed.

The Oddities vs. Kaentai *

ICP should never be in a wrestling ring! The entrance with the oddities took forever. I still never got why Taka joined them after feuding with them. Why the hell is this match on the PPV? Match dragged and really wasn’t that funny. Kaentai used a 4 on 1 tactic and Golga’s partners did not help? WTF?

Hair vs. Hair Match: Jeff Jarrett w/Southern Justice vs. X-Pac ***

For anyone who cares Southern Justice is the Godwins in suits. Fans are hot for X-Pac and Howard Finkle (Who was shaved bald by Jarrett earlier) came out with X-Pac in a DX top and even did the “crotch chop” taunt w/ pyro and told Jarrett to “suck it”! Side not, X-Pac has cool attire, Jarrett does not. Southern Justice are escorted to the back. Jarrett uses some good heel tactics but it seems to me the match never gets going full speed. I hate it how the Figure Four never ends matches, it makes the move look so weak. Jerry Lawler is gold on commentary, lol he hates Howard. Some sloppy near falls and Jarrett low blows Pac and the ref didn’t notice, Howard gets involved and Jarrett hits him. X-Pac hit’s a sloppy X-Factor and Pac wins after bodged interference from Southern Justice. The ref never hears the guitar being smashed and we see Jarrett shaved The match was solid and I expected it to be. It could have been a lot better.

Ha, Dok Hendrix is still employed! Rock cuts a short but cool promo with Michael Cole.

Marc Mero & Jacqueline vs. Sable and Edge **3/4

Edge was a mystery partner and as Jacky is Mero’s new valet, we see the feud continue. Edge has come a long way since his debut. Sable and Jacky are both very green also. Sable low blows Mero and no DQ?? Edge hit’s a great over the top rope suicide dive. Jacky and Mero play a very good heel team. Sable nails a wonderful top tope hurrcanrana. Cool ending too. Match got better at the end.

Mankind Promo with Vince was fantastic. Mankind says he has 13 words for DX -

“How much wood could a wood chucker chuck if a wood chucker could chuck wood!”

Lions Den Match: Owen Hart vs. Ken Shamrock ***1/2

I am a fan of MMA, Shamrock and Owen Hart. So I was not disappointed. Some good athleticism by both men. Not much to say here. I good technical match,

WWF Tag Team Championship, Falls Count Anywhere: Mankind vs. New Age Outlaws **

Story behind this match is that Kane no-showed and left Mankind to fend on his own. Foley takes a sick bump on two chairs midway through. The ending consisted of NAO doing double team moves with weapons until Mankind was unable kick out. The match just was not given enough time to get started really. ** is all I could give it. For the people who care Kane attacked Mankind after with a sledgehammer.

Intercontinental Championship, Ladder Match: Triple H w/Chyna vs. The Rock ****1/2

These had a great match at Fully Loaded that ended in a draw which meant that Rock retained. Last week Rock humiliated Chyna which made HHH angry and he beat up jobbers with chairs. So the feud has been built superbly. A little note, don’t you just hate it when HHH goes for the Pedigree near the ropes and you know he is going to be back dropped over the top rope. Rock tries to climb the ladder first and I feel he took way too long. Slightly takes away from the rating. The Rock goes after HHH’s right knee, which was a very clever idea. Hunter takes loads of bumps and I gotta give him so respect. Rock is so over. Even as a heel when he hit’s the peoples elbow the fasn start a Rocky chant but the fans are also behind Hunter. I think this match is a little over-rated as Rock runs off the ropes but is unable to climb the ladder at a faster speed than how he does! Near the end it is understandable but at the start it was stupid. HHH was blinded and he climbed the ladder but not find the belt. Chyna low blowed Rocky to get her revenge and also to equal Henry blinding Hunter! Still an amazing match.

WWF Championship: Steve Austin vs. Undertaker ****1/4

Well the whole storyline was, would Kane show up? Taker said he would fight Austin one-on-one and Kane would not interfere. But Kane came up and Taker sent him back. Going into this match when I first saw it back in 1998. Me and my friends all knew what Taker was capable of and we knew it would only be Taker who would be able defeat Austin one-on-one. Undertaker does an amazing leg drop off the top rope through the announce table on Austin. Haha, JR says Son of a Bitch and after a few seconds it is obvious people in the back told him apologize and JR says “I’m sorry about that” under his breath. CLASSIC! Stone Cold had blood spilling from his mouth. I guess a bloody lip but JR sold It as internal bleeding. Austin reverses Old School and then hit’s the Stunner!

Overall PPV Rating: ****.

A great opener, solid mid-card action, and two fantastic title matches at the end.

But yeah the match that sticks out the most from that night was Shane/Test

Well done i plain forgot about that, i would love it if they keep it the same. Maybe it was Austin's own little way of paying tribute to Benoit by including that match on his disc set

Default Re: Official WWE DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Watched a couple matches from 2001 last night:

2/3 Falls match for Kurt Angle's Gold Medals (1st fall - pinfall only, 2nd fall - submission only, 3rd fall - ladder match): Kurt Angle v Chris Benoit - Judgment Day 2001
Great match. I had never seen this before so everything was new to me. I liked how both guys would keep going back to their submissions in the second fall, only for the other guy to escape or force the break, pushing the idea that they were equals in the technical wrestling departmen. The ladder match part didn't give us anything we haven't seen before, but what was there was definitely solid. The screwey finish kept Benoit looking strong as it took 3 men to beat him, and Angle continues being the chicken-shit heel, which he was always great at. ****

WWF Tag Team Titles match: Stone Cold Steve Austin & Triple H v Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho - RAW is WAR 5/21/01
I always thought this match was a little overrated, and while I still wouldn't go calling it a ****3/4-***** match, I enjoyed it a lot more when I watched it last night. The story is easy enough and all 4 guys tell it well - Austin and Hunter are the most dominant team in the WWF, holding every major title up until the previous night where Austin cost Hunter the IC title, and Benoit and Jericho are the new(ish) breed of stars looking for some gold. They know this may be the only chance they get at the titles, so they do everything to stay in the fight and make sure they don't need another chance. The heels work over Benoit for most of the match, nailing him with a steel chair, launching him into the ring-steps; pretty much doing anything they can to put him away. He keeps coming back though, despite having fought 2 gruelling matches the night before. The crowd are HOT in this too, so when Benoit finally makes the tag to Jericho, they explode. Then the quad injury. You can see the exact moment that Hunter's quad tears, right when he breaks up the Walls of Jericho. Of course he then went and took the same submission move himself on the freakin' announce table which I'm sure made matters worse. Anyway, injury or not, Benoit and Jericho had taken out one member of the 2 Man Power Trip, leaving Stone Cold all by himself. He almost pulled it out though, and if it wasn't for Jericho pulling the ref' out of the ring, he probably would have. This gave Jericho control and he hit the Lion-sault, but Hunter wasn't done yet as he brings the sledgehammer into the ring to nail Jericho; then, like Austin cost Hunter the IC title by accident the night before, Hunter drills the hammer into Stone Cold's ribs, giving Benoit a chance to take out Hunter, and giving Jericho a chance to score the pinfall on Austin and win the titles. Awesome storytelling, awesome match, but I'm still not as high on it as most. ****1/2

TLC III for the WWF Tag Team Titles: Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho v Edge & Christian v The Hardys v The Dudleys - Smackdown! 5/24/01
3 days after putting on a MOTYC on RAW, Jericho & Benoit are back taking part in an even better match (imo anyway) on Smackdown! This became my favourite TLC match ever when I first saw it a couple years ago, and it stayed my favourite TLC match ever when I watched it again last night. Absolutely ball to the wall awesome for 25 minutes or so where all 8 guys, as usual in this kind of match, beat the shit out of each other. The table spots were great even though nobody went through 4 tables at once, the ladder spots were great, the chair-shots were CRAZY (some of the loudest chair-shots I think I've ever heard) and it flowed together perfectly. This and Austin/Angle from Summerslam are probably the 2 matches that come as close to ***** I can think of, but just missing it. ****3/4

Probably a longer rant than usual concerning the 5/21 tag match, but I guess I got carried away

Next for me it's Austin/Benoit from Smackdown!, a week after TLC III. Benoit really had an AWESOME May in 2001.

Benoit was definitely on fire in 2001:

Benoit/Jericho Ladder Match/Royal Rumble *****

Benoit/Angle WrestleMania 17 ****
Benoit/Angle Ultimate Submission Match/Backlash ****
Benoit/Angle Cage Match/Raw **** 1/4 (The diving Headbutt was insane!)

Benoit/Angle 3 stages of hell/Judgement Day ****, Performed in Tag Team Turmoil the same night and won w/ Y2J
Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho/HHH & Steve Austin/World Tag Team Championship **** 3/4
TLC III **** 3/4 (These three matches happened in the same week!)

Steve Austin/WWF title - Monday Night Raw from Calgary 5/28/01 **** 1/2
Steve Austin/WWF title – Smackdown 2001 from Edmonton 5/31/01 **** 3/4 (These two matches happened in the same week!)

Benoit/Austin/Y2J Triple Threat at KOTR ****

I don't care how WWE or anyone else tries to spin it Chris Benoit is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time and damn sure THE best technical wrestler ever!
