3 of what most would consider to be the most successful WWE superstars, my question is out of those 3 which did you "personally" like the most.
This isn't about who is objectively the best, just who did you enjoy more.
For me I was a Rock guy.
Loved his promos, His short heel run in 2003 had some of my favorite promos of all time. I love his in-ring style and persona and what not. And would always cheer for him when he was in the ring with Austin or Hogan.
Hope this doesn't turn into a mark war, just curious lol
idk how old you are but you never know about that. I was lucky because I was in the sweet spot for growing up with wrestling. I was 7 for WM III and loved him and 16 when he turned heel and for me both iterations were absolutely amazing. This is especially true directly after the heel turn because Austin wasn't the Austin that's remembered and The Rock was still 4 months from his tv debut.
i cant think of anyone else in my entire life i thought was cooler than the rock, especially the shirt wearing version
i loved his moveset, promos, acting really i loved it all
then we land on hogan, i love hogan. people talk about aura in pro wrestling, about presence. when hulk returned in 2002 thats the most presence ive ever seen a pro wrestler demand, loved the promos and the nwo having watched it
still liked Austin but he was never one of my favourites
say what you will but i always preferred taker and trips to good ole stone cold
The Rock easily. I respect Hogans status and what he did for pro wrestling but I've never been entertained by him. I have been entertained by Austin, but his "What" promos were garbage and the guys a scumbag wife beater that the WWE tried to cover up.
The Rock meanwhile is one of my top two all time favourites. Insanely entertaining and charismatic. He had it, and he got it, he got what the business was about. A born entertainer in every way. And just an insanely likeable guy as well.
The sky is the limit when comes to this guy. He keeps defying all odds to this day. This guy has reached an iconic status in the wrestling world at only 29. On top of being extremely talented he didn't politic, stepped on people, or even get a major push that a mega superstar would normally get, to reach the top.
Gonna say Rock, I started watching in 1998, but didn't have access to WWE consistently until around 2002. So, I think the reason Rock beats Austin for me is that he's been active in more of the time that I've been a devoted fan. I love them both near equally looking back on the archives, but I just feel more connected in a weird way to Rock. Austin is a VERY close second though.
Hogan, for me, wasn't in the discussion. I became a fan of WWE in the Attitude Era and it was Rock and Austin that drew me in with their anti-hero/badass/cool personas. Then I saw old man Hogan go with the red and yellow "say your prayer and take your vitamins brother" superhero deal, it was incredibly cheesy. Never liked Hogan at all. I really should give WCW a bit of a watch, I feel like at least character wise he might be more to my tastes. But was never a fan of his wrestling style, his selling, his Hulking Up, his speed and movement... to be fair he had probably had 5 hip replacements and 2 knee replacement by the time he made that 2002 WWE comeback. Not a Hulkamaniac, brother.
Rock, everything about him was cool, the $500 shirt era was my favourite incarnation of him. I enjoyed Austin too, they played off the other brilliantly.
The Rock rather easily tbh, Hogan's prime was before my time and although he had charisma, from what I've seen he was easily the worst mic talker and wrestler out the three. Never really cared for Austin, he was involved in some great storylines but him as a wrestler I've just never really took a liking to, the whole beer drinking ******* gimmick never appealed to me, maybe because I'm a black Englishman? lol idk. Always loved The Rock though, definitely the best on the mic out the three and the most entertaining to watch in the ring too, that, and The Rock IRL seems like a really nice guy, whereas Hogan is racist who used backstage politics and Austin's a wifebeater so yeah theres that.
I'm an 80's kid so my answer here is Hogan. No disrespect to Austin or Rock. That childhood passion I had is just something that even the AE was not able to quite replicate. For me, Hogan vs Warrior, Hogan vs Andre, Hogan vs Sting, and Hogan vs Rock very easily trump Austin vs Rock.
I wasn't very into Hogan as a kid, I was more into Ultimate Warrior, British Bulldog and Randy Savage. I respect Hogan and his legacy but I preferred others way more
I never liked the rock, I found him very pretentious, like Hogan he never won me over, the only time I really got into Rock was during his Corporation Rock and his Hollywood Rock Phase. Otherwise the man pissed me off. lol. I kind alike Rock now, just because he seems like this super nice guy.. as long as he doesn't wrestle again lol
