Unpopular Opinion: Cheering For Heels Is Corny

Many of us on WF have a strange obsession with heels and I just can't wrap my head around why. I never thought it was a bad idea to respect a heels work but to flat out cheer a heel character is really lame and kinda ruins the show. It's like fans are doing their best to troll the WWE by cheering for those we're supposed to be rooting against. I understand many of us relate to asshole/badass characters who don't play by the rules because IRL we'd like to be as bold and "cool" as them but enough is enough. Cheering for heels is extremely corny

Well for the most part heels and baby faces in the WWE are basically the same. Face comes out and says some generic shit pandering to the fans and/or the city, heel comes out and generically shits on the city and/or fans. I don't understand what about that makes heels cheerable?

It's simple. In today's WWE the heels are generally the more interesting characters.

Not really much more to it than that. Suggesting that people only do it to be "cool" or that people cheer for heels because they have no moral code themselves is beyond laughable.

I'm willing to bet that most of the people using the above excuses are people who's favorite performer happens to be a lame, uninteresting babyface.

I think people cheer heels for two reasons: they're doing it ironically to prove they're smart and not getting worked and also, because they have low morals and they would be heels in real life, if they could get away with it. They'd like to be a bully, if they could, they'd cheat to get ahead, or they're cowardly, so they can empathize with the heels behavior better than a babyface showing heart and being a stand-up guy.

I mean a lot of the heels actually have a charcther and are intresting. A lot of babyfaces are booked so bad it is hard to care about them. Depends on the act too though sometimes it is weird cheering a heel

Depends on the heel. If they offer any sort of entertainment value to me than I'm willing to get on board.

While there are alot of babyfaces who are garbage there are also a boat load of heels who are garbage as well: Boring Corbin, Sheamus, The Welcoming Committee, TJP, Titus O'Neill, Apollo Crews, Jinder Mahal, Dolph Ziggler, etc.

...WWE heels are just as one dimensional as the faces though. Nobody on the show is truly compelling and it seems most just cheer heels because "lol they said a mean thing to the fans! How thrilling!"

Contrarians are the corniest form of human man beings

Cheering a heel isn't particularly a bad thing. The Rock, Austin etc. getting cheers when they were heels wasn't a bad thing, they were liked and they were eventually turned.

It's heels pandering to the crowd or doing things to get a pop that's bad. Which is seen too much nowadays. Failure to adapt your move set and ring style means you're basically a face who occasionally bashes the crowd to get a 10 second boo.

I'm sports entertained by heels. Babyfaces don't act like real people. You can tell they're scripted because nobody would say the shit that comes out of their mouth while heels seem to have more freedom or confidence because they're not scripted like a retarded 2nd grader.

No, it's corny. Wrestling itself is a carny ;)

It's because not only can they not build a baby face to save their lives (just look at what they've done to Sami Zayn) but its because quite a few guys who should be faces are heels and vice versa. If you look at quite a few wrestling promotions, yes this does happen but not nearly as often as it does in WWE and why, because they have good faces to counter the heels. Just happy Nakamura has so much charisma to help him get by because in no way in hell should he be booked like an underdog like every other face.

The only people I cheer for regardless of which side they're on are the ex Shield guys. I cheered The Shield when they were heels - at Mania 29 and Summerslam 2013, a lot of people were booing them but I cheered for them and I swear some people gave me a dirty look :lol Which is funny considering how many people cheer for heels these days lol.

But I always thought The Shield were cool heels anyway, they did heelish things like cheating and using their numbers advantage to win and overpower people but they always put on awesome matches and got the job done when they had to. But that ended up forcing WWE to turn them face cos people wouldn't stop cheering them after a certain point in time.

But I think turning some people won't even help anyway, I think when Dean Ambrose finally turns heel he'll still get cheered cos heel Dean is awesome.

But then again what do I know, I was the only person cheering for Seth Rollins the night after Mania 31 when he rubbed the WWE Championship in Brock Lesnar's face :lol Everybody else was cheering for Brock but I was on Seth's side haha.
