It was also mentioned, although the story will probably go out due to the sheer number of interviews and stories collected, the settlement between Mauro Ranallo and WWE last week put the brakes a bit on the story, presumably which was why WWE was quick and desperate to settle.

Apparently, some of those who were interviewed were disappointed about Ranallo basically absolving JBL with his statement immediately following the settlement.
Could be NBC and MSNBC as this is right up their street.

Update: More
The timing of this was because a major news outlet was working on a story on the subject, and WWE needed Ranallo to essentially absolve Layfield to either weaken or kill the story. It is not certain whether the story will or won’t run, because many interviews were already done, but the key to the story was how it related to Ranallo’s situation.
Those interviewed for the story were disappointed and felt the Ranallo comments likely killed the story. One of the reasons, and this can best be explained if you followed the reasoning of why pro wrestlers are listed as independent contractors and not employees, is that unless you have no intention of ever working for WWE again, and also don’t mind being in a public fight that will cause a lot of stress, you are not going to try and publicly challenge them on major issues like that. In the case of the independent contractors claim, as an example, it was challenged, but it was by talent that had given up on every coming back, and this way so far after they had last worked there that their claim was thrown out based on the statute of limitations before there was even a legal fight over whether the actual claims had validity. The only people who will speak out are those who have given up the dream, and it usually takes years (there are exceptions to that) before people say to themselves that they really never want to go back, or that it’s never going to happen. In this situation, it was the same, as the only people who were going to publicly say anything are those who either truly don’t want to return, or those who have give up hope on returning.

Can't defend himself in a fight mano y mano anyway.

No wonder people think wrestling fans are idiots...

People here are now gonna repeat this shit as if it's the gospel and when nothing happens none of you will hold Meltzer accountable.

One fucking month later, he hasn't provided evidence of anything happening, continues to beat this stupid dead horse and people are still circle jerking over it.

Common sense alone should tell you that if a major news outlet was going to cover this story it would have been covered when it was a hot topic and people were actually interested in hearing it.

Does it matter if this is connected to Mauro Ranallo or not? If several people come forward and recount stories of JBL's inappropriate behaviour over a number of years, then wouldn't that suggest he should be disciplined? Why are WWE so desperate to protect him?

:proud This needs to happen. Fucking unacceptable that WWE works with organizations like Be A Star and promote anti-bullying propaganda, just for them to let go of the victim and trying to cover his ass by ejecting fans with "JBL bullied me" signs. Fucking unacceptable that they gave Ranallo a settlement to keep his mouth shut, which all but insinuates that WWE knows the severity of these accusations and may know they hold more truth than what they would like to admit. Being at Smackdown Live here in Louisville, I was disgusted when they announced the commentators and that fucker came out smiling and waving like he didn't just run somebody out of a job. Fuck him and fuck the WWE for siding with him.

Yup they're gonna stop talking about Trump, North Korea, NAFTA, ISIS and all the other important stuff in the world to cover a month old rumour started by a notorious liar and dirt sheet writer.

The IWC are a bunch of idiots who can't see they're being strung along. Can't you guys see that the longer this "story" stays alive the longer Meltzer can stay relevant as the face of the story, despite not actually reporting anything, that is backed up by evidence.

You people need to realize that at this stage Meltzer is the only person benefitting hence why he is dragging it. He's gotta sell those subscriptions that's why all the openings posts in these threads always end by asking you to read more on a paywall blocked site.

Hmmm...

"A major JBL/WWE bullying expose on a number of major news outlets to be put out soon"

So, why does the article - and Dave's comments - suggest that whether a majpr news outlet even comes out with a big story or not is now largely up in the air?

JBL's "backstage bullying" ended years ago. Note that all the "shoot" interviews where people talk about JBL backstage bullying incidents are from long ago. None of them are recent. JBL has cleaned up his act, so there's really nothing to talk about anymore.
