If Apollo Crews received Roman's push...

...of all the guys on the roster not named Joseph Anoia to replace John Cena as the face of the company, based on the current WWE mindset of what qualifies a wrestler to be the top guy I think that Apollo Crews would be the clear choice to be given a mammoth push. He's one of the few remaining people on the roster with a massive physique, he has the "look" of a main eventer, and he's young (29). Negatives that have been cited have been his charisma and his "happy to be there attitude", but those can be worked around. Or ignored if need be.

Crews isn't pushed hard at the moment because the WWE has their next FOTC in Reigns. But what if Roman were to leave, or to receive a second Wellness Violation? If Vince and Hunter were to decide that Apollo was their guy and to begin a massive, forcefed push, would any of his negatives matter? Apollo doesn't speak much, but then again neither does Roman. Crews has a cool finisher, as does Roman, but apart from that there is not much else. But it doesn't stop WWE from booking Roman to win over all-time legends and to main event WrestleManias perpetually. Would Apollo be just as successful as Roman Reigns if he received the same three year build?

Basically, what I am asking is Apollo Crews really just Roman Reigns absent the Face of the Company push?

That's the thing. In today's WWE non of that matters. He's a good wrestler, and visually he stands out. That's all that's needed. Roman has no gimmick, and very little of a discernible character. His promos now are generally short. But he looks credible, he's competent in the ring, and he just beats everyone. Wyatt, Orton, Styles, HHH, Taker. Everyone. And because of that, a sizeable amount of the young fanbase the WWE constantly chases will buy his merchandise.

Have Apollo Crews win a Royal Rumble and beat everyone put before him for three years, and main event three WrestleManias. He'll be over with a sizeable amount of younger fans too, and he'll be the top merchandise seller.

As long as the wrestler is technically sound in the ring, looks the part (height, muscularity, relative good looks), and is young any wrestler could be just as over as Roman if they received the same push. Finn Balor would be a candidate himself to be face of the company if he were 4 inches taller and 40 pounds heavier (and 4 years younger).

I know it's a bit of an off topic tangent.. but speaking of rocket pushes and what not. I just pictured Apollo Crews with a literal rocketpack flying to the moon with this dumb ass grin waving wildly to a camera. :lol

But a short answer is I can't say for 100% sure as to the main topic, but I do think Roman still edges Crews out in how he carries himself.. Say what you will about Roman, but at least he does walk like he belongs there. Crews still just screams "Hello I'm your friendly neighborhood jobber!"

Apollo is exactly the last superstar on that roster I would like to see anywhere near the main event scene. As soon as his music comes on, I know it's time for a bathroom break, no personality whatsoever

Listen Roman Reigns is not the guy at all, but he's 10x better fitted for the position he's in than Apollo fucking Crews. At least Roman has a presence about him, even if you've never heard of him before. Apollo Crews looks like a really awesome personal trainer at your local rec centre.

He's entirely too dark. Point blank. I won't sugarcoat coat it. He's a black guy. It's not happening. You won't see a black man (with two black parents to kill any scapegoating Rock quips) as the face of the WWE until maybe the tail end of your lifetime. Maybe your grandchildren will. At the earliest. They're only acceptable at the very top of the card as heels or comedy characters. I mean, dude, we live in a society where people will claim they can't get into or play a video game if the protagonist is black. You really believe those same people would willingly pay to watch a black guy dominate men who looked like them to the sound of a sea of white soccer mom's and children cheering him on?? :lol Fans aren't ready for it, they couldn't accept it (especially today) and Vince knows it. You think the heat was bad for Roman, but you ain't seen nothing yet. :lol

Apollo lacks a current definitive character but I don't fault him. If he passed the paper bag test, there would be nothing but outrage over his biggest angle to date being Miz forgetting his name. He's a great in ring talent and imo would potentially be a great flashy, arrogant mid card heel and I hope that's where they eventually go with he & Titus. If he can work on his promos, he'd fit in today's main event/upper midcard. Baby steps, though. I wouldn't want him to get the Reigns push in any case because he's just as unprepared from a character standpoint. He has potential though.

You're deluding yourself if you believe those guys chanting "Let's go Hawkins," Monday were chanting that because they genuinely believe Hawkins is a superior performer. :lol

I agree with everything except the fans can accept it.
The New Day has proven that Black people can go over. Look at the other industries, white people LOVE black rappers, athletes and such. WWE ignores this. The fans are "ready." Apollo Crews probably is not that guy but having a top black star could add that cool factor that WWE is missing.

This question of racism is interesting. Not even from WWE's point of view, although you could certainly argue that.

The fact is there is a lot of small towns in middle America where a "black John Cena" just wouldn't be universally embraced like white All American Apple Pie and Eagles John Cena is. I wonder if a black man could get universally over in the Roman top guy spot?

New Day is super duper over, but they're shucking and jiving. They're harmless goofballs the Soccer Moms will love. Just like Finn in that new Star Wars movie. He's so funny and goofy! No middle America Mom could resist! He's just like that Will Smith!

I've said the WWE could've took 75% of the guys on their roster and given them the exact same push, exposure, booking, etc as Reigns and they would be in the exact same position if not better than Reigns and I stand by that.

Though not sure Crews would be part of that 75% :hmmm

The thought of crews cutting a promo about how happy he is to be in the main event of Wrestlemania :mj4

This whole idea that Reigns isn't a good wrestler :mj4

The idea that crews could in some way be a better alternative to Reigns ::mj4 :mj4 :mj4

Charisma still matters. Wrestling ability means a lot more than it used to for sure but it only really means something if you're an interesting person, which crews unfortuently just isn't. He's a nice guy but other than his build there is nothing to him to get behind.

...Then it would be just as poorly received as Roman's.

Roman's biggest problem in most people's eyes is his lack of real personality, and that exact same problem can be applied to Crews as well, he hasn't had a single memorable moment since he showed up in WWE, especially not in the character department.
