Obviously Mania will always be the biggest show of the year but I think it'd be a good idea to try and get SS to a level near that. I think if WWE did a good enough job they could fill up a decent size stadium for SummerSlam and it would make the 2nd most important show of the year feel even more important. Some people would probably say that would make Mania feel less special but I would disagree with that. There is nothing that could lessen the impact of Mania at this point. I think building up SummerSlam would be a great idea
Personally, Summerslam usually exceeds Mania, so I think they've already given it a near Mania feel. Now Survivor Series is the one that lost its luster and needs to be renovated.
They've been trying to build Summerslam as a 'Mania-level show for some time. Look at the main-events of each Summerslam; most of them have 2 big matches that are Wrestlemania-worthy:
2016 - Orton vs Brock, Styles vs Cena, Balor vs Rollins
2015 - Undertaker vs Brock, Rollins vs Cena
2014 - Cena vs Brock, Wyatt vs Jericho, Reigns vs Orton, Stephanie vs Brie
2013 - Punk vs Lesnar, Bryan vs Cena
2012 - Triple H vs Lesnar
Often, they also have elaborate press-conferences to market the event (which they don't give for other PPVs).
Summerslam has always been Wrestlemania B+. I personally don't want it to be bigger than that cause summerslam, as wrestling fans, is our last glimmer of hope of cool/great wrestling things to actually happen. Its the one major PPV where i feel like, they try and do decently smart wrestling choices
Definitely, and i can see they've been making efforts to do that. Summerslam is really the 2nd biggest PPV of the year and there needs to be huge matches, like Cena/Styles was.
Someone already mentioned but I feel like they're already trying to get Summerslam to be a WM level PPV. Especially with the last couple of angles that has taken place the past years, Lesnar/Punk with Punk and Heyman splitting up before then, Bryan/Cena, Lesnar/Taker, and this past year was the companies first real try to market it as something better than Mania, I don't know if anybody else picked up on that as I wasn't a part of this forum until shortly afterwards. I feel like Summerslam and Survivor Series could benefit from feeling like WM for their respective seasons, especially with WWE's falls being notoriously slow and boring.
Summerslam is probably my favorite wwe event every year. But I would rather they keep it no2. Keep the great cards and build ups, but none of the glits and glam. No music performances, No insanely long shows (even though last year was pretty long) in my opinion Wrestlemania has become a bit of a chore to watch. I like Summerslam the way it is :shrug
All they have to do is pull the trigger and book a bigger arena. They've been selling out Brooklyn instantly for a few years now as well as every other show they run for the weekend.
Well they have done alot to distinguish it from other shows including a major mainevent last couple of years ie first ever hhh/brock and brock/orton matches
first ever time wwe played and sold out the same venue 3 nights in a row on us soil (they are actually attempting four nights in a row for the first time this year)
Running time increased to 4 hours.
Its never going to match mania though even if they moved it to a stadium. Mania itself is so much bigger now than it was say in 2010 when Hof was in small venues, axxess was tiny and even raw wasn't a priority for fans tickets wise
I don't think they do SummerSlam usually gets the same set as the other pay per views and it's also always held in arena instead of stadiums and it's just my opinion but I think stadium shows give off a big fight feel vibe
I think they are trying to up it's importance and these past few years in Brooklyn have sold out every single show they've put on. In theory they could sell out a stadium again with it...and I'd love that stadium to be Wembley
Why not? They should put their best effort into every event--to a degree. The top 4 should be clearly above the other special events. Wiht Mania as king, followed by SummerSlam, the Rumble and Survivor Series--in that order.
I wouldn't be surprised if Vince tries to move Summerslam to a stadium in the near future. It doesn't seem like it's moving out of Brooklyn anytime soon though.
UC title braun vs Brock
wwe title Orton vs owens
us title styles vs zayn
ic title rollins vs ambrose
smackdown women's title naomi vs lynch vs flair
raw womens title banks vs bayley
singles match roman reigns vs the miz
singles match baron corbin vs nakamura
raw tag titles tlc the hardys, shesaro, and a returning revival
thats a summerslam card imo, not too long and not giving away wrestlemania matches like styles vs nak, roman vs brock and lynch vs flair
thats just the main card btw
No they shouldn't, Summerslam is fine as it is and is usually is one of the best shows of the year. We don't need another overproduced, stupidly long show with forced pushes and part-timers.
No it well never be on the level of mania. But we all know SS well prob have a far better card then Mania. I see Styles Orton and Brock Strowman as being big time matches at mania. Styles v Nukumura at SS is a possiblity I suspose.
Personally I think Survivor Series should be more important than SummerSlam. They just need to put more at stake in the traditional 5 on 5 matches between the brands.
SummerSlam is constantly great. I think we could pencil in Lesnar/Strowman, Orton/Styles, Nakamura/Cena and Shield/Club for this year. Dunno if we'd be lucky enough to get all four of those, but that's a hell of a stacked card.
