Undertaker, insanely overrated, there I said it.

I wanted to wait a few weeks after he retired before posting this because I'm sure emotions would be running high on here but I'm sorry I don't understand the "legacy" of Taker of whatsoever. One of the most overrated people in WWE history by far. From 1990 to 1998, he played a one-dimensional halloween character and was a HORRIBLE wrestler, one of the worst in history. His run from 90 to 98 was complete and total garbage. Then from 98 to about 2004, he becomes "decent" in the ring, not great by any means but average enough I guess and his character underwent several evolutions which was pretty cool.

Then, FINALLY, around 2005 until 2010, he starts having a fantastic run as a full time wrestler. Those 5 years were classic and he put on an amazing run of matches....then he stops all that and goes down to just one match a year. His once-a-year matches with HHH and CM Punk were good, not great by any means, but good and then starting in 2014, he went right back down to where he was in 1998, just putting out crap and desperately needing to retire. When he finally does retire, he puts on one of the worst WM main events in WWE history...

The biggest problem is fans look at his overall career through rose tinted glasses. They look at his run from 2005 to 2010 and think his entire 27 year run was like that and it WASN'T. 5 awesome years out of 27 years is not okay and it's surreal just how much revision history there is when it comes to Taker's career in the eyes of the fans.

You do realize how different wrestling was back then right? Everything was character driven. And all Taker had to do back then was choke people in the corner. and Tombstone them. And as the years and decades went by, he got better and better and delivered several classic matches throughout his career.

Oh and lazy? Lazy? A guy who gave his body to the industry for 3 decades is lazy? The guy who worked through broken ribs, a broken orbital bone, and several other injuries is lazy?

Bullshit.

Lol so basically like a majority of wrestlers in every wrestling promotion in history. Taker ain't special when it comes to that stuff dude.

Agreed on the WM25 match, I'd out WM26 on there too. Like I said his run for those 5 years or so was top notch. There are definitely moments in his career that stand out as best-of-all time moments. It's too bad it makes up only a small portion of his overall career.

Good luck OP. Undertaker is one of those talents, you criticize him or don't think he's great and you're disrespectful. He's been shit on the mic and in the ring for years but people continue to mark out for 90s era tricks but in the same breath wish for Show or Kane to retire. Terrible imo

Accusing me of baiting because you don't agree with my opinion is going too far. I'll edit and remove the lazy reference if that will stop you guys from derailing the thread. I want to have a legit discussion here. I'm going to remove the lazy part but my opinion still stands.

When he first debuted he wasn't very good and it did take him a while before he became good. But saying he was shit until 1998 isn't true. Everything he did with Mankind was amazing. Hell anytime he was in the ring with decent workers he had good or great matches (minus Goldust maybe). He just got booked against so many bad wrestlers because of his character. It was monster after monster that he was put in feuds with and many of them were bad.

Did he have good matches with Giant Gonzalez, The Executioner, Damien Demento, King Mable, or Fake Undertaker? No. But nobody could have.

You essentially rated him in one area out of many which is in ring work. I don't think many will say Taker early era was amazing in the ring by any means but then in the same breath, you completely forget that he had one of the best WWE matches of all time in 1997 Bad Blood in the original hell in the cell.

Taker essentially reinvented himself several times over in a 30+ career with pretty much one of the most recognizable and iconic gimmicks that the WWE had ever created and managed to stay over and a main event player throughout that entire period. No other wrestler has ever been able to do that and speaks to his longevity.

I'm not saying you have to be a fan by any means but your opinion is clearly been formed through that same selective tinted glass house you claim everyone else is living in.

With all due respect, I think you are just completely wrong. I respect your opinion, but you probably don't have any recollection whatsoever of the WWF in the 90's or your analysis would be completely different. So, as you get ready to sit down and watch Raw tonight, just remember that the dude literally helped build Raw into what it is today. He was already a main-eventer during the first ever Raw episode in 1993 and it was pretty entertaining to me compared to the matches before it. He fit into that time period/era just like every other time period or era he was cast into and only very few could do that. He's been a phenom for the WWE for decades and has adjusted to everything thrown his way. I also think you are negligent to the fact that these guys/girls risk their physical and mental well-being to entertain people like you who always seem to find the negative in every little thing. Find or interview any of his colleagues that saw him in the 90's/2000's and they'll tell you that he was THE toughest as far as battling through injuries and the most prominent leader in the locker room. There are just so many things he did/ meant to the WWE, I would be typing for days if I could list them all, so overrated is not a word I'd associate with the Undertaker. And in all honesty, could any other person make that gimmick into what it is today? Wait...Let me think..... maybe....... yeah, no.
