What Was Your Introduction To Your Favorite Superstar?

In wrestling, we all have our favorites. Some like a select few and other have several favorites. But most of us have our #1 favorite. That guy or girl that you look forward to the most every week to see what they are doing and where they going.

My first ever favorite was Kane. As a kid, he’s the guy that got me into wrestling. And now as older fan, my current favorite is Dean Ambrose. I won’t go on this long winded speech of why he is my favorite but that’s my guy.

And the first time I ever saw him was in FCW, the former developmental system to NXT. I remember seeing the dirtsheets at the time and one of the headlines said “WWE signs Jon Moxley to a WWE developmental deal. And when I first saw this, I thought “um, ok” because I never knew that name before. I just thought “alright, let’s see how he does."

And then I watched his debut on FCW TV:

And I was just like, “OK, I don’t know who you are, but you’ve got a fan in me.” And the rest is history. I don’t have an example for Kane considering how young I was and how long ago it was.

But what about you? What was your introduction to your favorite superstar, whether from the past or present?

well one was a rock promo in late 99 maybe early 2000, i was a pup at the time and i was mesmerised

the batista ones interesting as i first seen him as dvons guard and was given enough to care but thought this mans a machine
when he started working with evolution i became a huge fan, loved the faction as a whole but found myself wanting batista to get triple h and the world title in late 2004
thankfully the fans got behind him and off he went on the greatest none hogan/rock/austin road to wrestlemania ever Tyne

I don't remember how I became a fan of Jericho, but I think that's when I really became a huge fan of DX

I've watched them before but I was young. That moment is really memorable to me

Seeing Mankind debut back in 1996 really opened my eyes. This guy was warped, This guy was depraved. This guy was another sacrificial lamb to The Undertaker.

...except he wasn't. He brought the best out of Taker and gave him his first great feud since Yokozuna two years previous.

Then I looked closer and I realised...holy shit, that's Cactus Jack! From WCW! I was flabbergasted I didn't know this sooner but it really raised my eyebrows and from then on I knew this guy was the fucking man. The bumps, the promos, the match quality, the look...a real total fucking package.

I’ve always heard people claim the original Mankind (96-97) to be Undertaker’s greatest rival ever. Even more so than guys like Shawn Michaels, Kane, etc. I really need to get around to watching 1996 WWF on the network when I have the time.

My favorite wrestler as a kid was Kane for me as well OP. He used to scare the hell out of me back then (no pun intended), but there wasn't anything that I loved more than seeing him go out there and kick some ass. I don't remember the exact first time I saw him tho.

My all time favorite is Jericho. My introduction to him was Cena putting him in a garbage truck to write him off TV. :mj2
You sure you're not thinking of Bischoff. He got written off TV by getting throw into a garbage truck. Jericho got written off in 2005 after losing a match to Cena and being carried away kicking and screaming by security guards:

Also, lol that your introduction to your favorite was his farewell from WWE for 2 years.

My all time favorite is Jericho. I don't remember the first I saw him either, but I know I only got to see him for a few months that time, before he disappeared from TV mid 2005.

When I came back I didn't have a favorite, I just watched just to watch, it was just some slow quiet Monday and it was on so just started getting back into it.

I don't recall an actual match, but being someone who knew nothing about anyone unless they wrestled in early Ruthless Aggression, watching the product I officially decided that Cesaro was my favorite wrestler, and Rusev and Lana were my 2nd favorite. I think I was watching fulltime about the time Rusev got his US Title, and that reign was amazing. And if you see when I first made a profile, it was right Cena slaughtered him 3 PPV's in a row, it was the worst thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

But if we're talking classic, I think King of the Ring on VHS was when I first saw Stone Cold, cause I did backyard wrestling and we could borrow his tapes.

But my favorite intro to a wrestler was Y2J......I didn't know about him in WCW cause I didn't watch WCW since early 90's. God Dam that Y2J entrance was something you don't forget. People talk about how that made an impact, and it really did, it is how I know about casuals who see big names like AJ Styles hit the WWE scene without knowing him prior.

I mentioned this in another thread recently. I was at my cousins house who was a huge fan of wrestling but I'd never watched it. It was actually the song that drew me into the room to ask who the guy with the blonde hair was. He's been my fav from day one. Wooooooo!

I started watching in 03. Only had smackdown they didnt show raw in Sweden. At first I was a fan of everyone. The only guys I hated were jbl and a little later Randy Orton. The one guy that really stuck out to me was Kurt Angle. He,s my alltime favorite without a doubt and it feels very cool I got to watch 90% of his career from the run on smackdown through his epic run in tna.

I used to watch Saturday morning cartoons as a kid. I knew they were just cartoons and not real.

One day my Father was flipping through the channels and there HE was: my favorite cartoon hero, but he was real. He was huge and golden and he was beating up real bad guys.

He has many faults that we have become aware of through the years, but if it wasn't for Hogan I and many other of us would not be here right now.

I discovered Dean Ambrose in FCW too. This person I knew on Livejournal (lol) told me about FCW and said I should watch it. Back in 2012 I had really slow internet and everything took forever to load so I would skip parts of videos to save time. I found a random episode of FCW and was going through it. I went to a random part and guess who was just starting a promo? Dean, of course :D I was like "who's this guy?" and watched his promo. Immediately I liked him. He hooked me from the first time I ever saw him and I started going through the FCWs to see him :lol That's how I discovered Seth as well through his matches with Deano.

So of course when The Shield debuted and I saw Dean, I let out a huge squeal :lol He hadn't been on NXT so I hadn't seen much of him so it was really exciting for me haha.

Favorite of all-time:
Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels from Badd Blood 97 AKA the greatest match in WWE history.
YESSSSSS MY TWO ALL-TIME FAVORITES :x :x :x This was the first match that I saw that made me want to follow wrestling like a religion. However, my introduction to these two actually took place while watching SummerSlam 95. Michaels had that amazing Ladder match with Razor Ramon and Undertaker was facing.......Godfather? I honestly don't remember but he wore purple and black and looked something out of Tim Burton movie so that drew me to him instantly.

Dean Ambrose-It was a 2009 CZW match with Brain Damage and I think it was Dining Room Death Match? Anyways, I just saw see this guy carrying himself like a star. Even without the blood and swearing, it's a shame we're never gonna see him like this in WWE. :mj2

AJ Styles-Bound for Glory 2006. It was a Cage Match with him, Chris Daniels, and LAX. I thought "this guy is PHENOMENAL!" but some of the spots he took made me convinced he would not be walking by the time he's 30. I'm glad I was proven wrong.

Undertaker-It was a random episode of Raw in the summer of 95 but something about him just stuck with me.

Shawn Michaels/Razor Ramon-I never saw the full SummerSlam 95 show (thank god) but my older brother showed me the Ladder Match with HBK and Razor Ramon and was blown away.

I'll come back to this but those are just some off the top of my head.

WCW:
Goldberg-His debut on Nitro against Hugh Morrus. Even from the start, you could tell this guy had an unmatched aura about him and was gonna be the biggest star in WCW history.

Sting-It was Starrcade 94 against Earthquake. This fiery babyface with neon-colored tights and face paint is what drew me into WCW as a whole.

Dean Malenko AND Rey Mysterio-Great American Bash 96. Stoic technician vs. fiery high-flyer who, at the time, reminded me of a smaller Sting.

Chris Jericho-He was the first heel I ever rooted for because he was so damn entertaining. Well, except for when he injured my dude Rey Mysterio.

Randy Savage-I only saw him run-in at the end of Starrcade 94 after the Brutus Beefcake/Hogan main event but my dad LOVED him so I automatically loved him :lol Looking back on his career years later, I can see why he is a Certified GOAT.

Ric Flair-My dad showed me a tape of Starrcade 93 and the match he had with Big Van Vader was amazing.

Vader-See Ric Flair

I'm drawing a blank on when exactly I noticed a bunch of my favorite WWF guys but the one that will forever stick with me was Mankind facing Sparky Plugg Holly the Raw after Mania 12 and him jumping UNDERTAKER in the main event. It was the start of what would become my favorite feud ever.

Around 2002, I was obsessed with Michael Jordan coming back to the NBA and the idea of the GOAT coming out of retirement to a vastly different playing field from his prime. Well, HBK came back after 4 years with a bad back and stole the show for 30 minutes on a stacked Summerslam card. Don't remember MJ dropping an elbow off a ladder in the MCI Center :mj

"Holy fuckballs, this guy is something special," were my exact words.

Still amazes me that Shawn in a sense had 2 HOF careers in the 90’s and then later in the mid 2000’s. I was barely 10 when he came back in 2002 and I only got introduced to wrestling in the thick of the Attitude Era after he was already retired. So his “reintroduction” was my introduction to him in a sense.

My All-Time Favorite: Shawn Michaels

I started watching WWE in late July 2006 as a kid. DX was in the middle of their 2nd run right around this time. This clip took place a few weeks after I started tuning in, but it did introduce me to Shawn Michaels being one hell of an entertainer :D

The more I watched HBK perform for his remaining years left in the WWE, and the more I saw old clips of him before I started watching wrestling; the more he established himself as a legend and as my all-time favorite.

My Current Favorite: AJ Styles

I started watching TNA at some point in 2007. I remember how Christian Cage and Kurt Angle were in the middle of their feud together. I was introduced to AJ Styles when he was a member of Christian's Coalition as a heel. He would eventually win me over as a fan with his high-flying maneuvers, and his wrestling performances over the next several years.

Here's a wicked video that heavily features AJ Styles. It's a Holy Shit TNA video, and he appears in it 12 times :lol
