During Sam Roberts wrestling podcast HBK revealed that he was pitched to face AJ at WrestleMania because the fans wanted it and Styles didn't have an opponent. HBK turned it down and that's why the Styles/Shane match has come forward.
The conspiracy theory of "AJ isn't treated right by the company" died when AJ beat Cena clean at summerslam. Only people who think AJ is isn't being treated right are smarks who hate everything wwe does and need another reason to shit on that company. So they pull any stupid excuse at of their asses to fir their narrative
Shawn made the right choice tbh. This match would be so hyped up, its would be between what most people consider two of the best wrestlers of all time. It would have to be one of the best matches of all time, just to meet expectations.
With Shawn being long retired, and them never even having had a match before, theres no way it would not be a disappointment.
Sweet Chin Music in response to a Phenomenal Forearm attempt :banderas Makes me wonder how the card would have shaped up. I think we'd be seeing Shane vs Corbin or Ambrose instead
I'm glad HBK has stayed retired. Makes a change from all the legends who claim they're retired but then come back at the first sniff of money, lol. I'm fine with his occasional appearances the way they are.
Plus, I cried a lot when he retired, and to me if he came back, that moment would be totally ruined.
Respect to Shawn for sticking to his guns, for alot of wrestlers wrestling is an addiction they cannot accept getting out of.
For Micheal s it solidifies his legacy. You know if he comes back it'll be "oh, just one more match" followed by "oh, just one more match", and thats the problem alot of wrestlers have
Hopefully this puts to rest the idea of HBK coming out of retirement that so many people talked themselves into around Rumble time. He's the one guy that seems to stick to his words with this stuff.
Honestly if HBK was to come out of retirement he would have done it years ago. Not 7 years down the line.
Doesn't surprise me too much. In recent weeks JBL has been very heavy-handed with the AJ-HBK comparisons, thought it was done for a reason- admittedly, I was thinking an angle not a match, but still.
As much as I have wanted this and still kinda want this..I say NEVER. Michaels ended his in ring career PERFECTLY. Why tarnish it in any way? not saying Styles/Michaels would either of their legacies but come on he retired at the perfect time.
I a gree with him being old, but out of shape is false as fudge. The guy did an interview and said he keeps himself because he's getting into the acting realm. But not only that, WWE is open to have him show up for promos. He's a professional and is always in shape. Look at his arms when he pops up, he's jacked! Watch his segment at Mania with the New Day. No shirt, no hat, just a jacked HBK.
As for not being in a match, HBK said he knows he left A LOT of money on the table, but he went out on his terms and still able to deliver HBK SHOWSTOPPING MATCHES!
While I would pay travel money to see that match, I gotta respect Michaels for sticking to his word and not falling into the same "I'm retired/No I'm not" pattern other wrestlers tend to fall into. He went out in the best way a wrestler could next to Trish retiring as champion after one last blow-off match and I'd hate to see it potentially ruined (Not saying it would be, but there's always a chance).
If the WWE did ask him to come out of retirement, it sucks from them and I'm happy HBK stayed away from it. He the perfect ending to his career, absolutely perfect and at this point, him coming back for one more match would be more sad than a really happy moment because he really made WM 26 special
