Who remembers the WCW made movie, Ready to Rumble? It came out in 2000 and starred David Arquette & Scott Caan as obsessive wrestling fans, trying to persuade their favourite to come back for one last run.

I think the movie is best known for David Arquette actually winning the WCW World title on Nitro, in a publicity stunt for the movie which drew the ire of wrestling fans, around the world but has anybody actually seen it?

I remember watching WCW at the time as a kid and thinking they had really fallen off when Arquette became world champion but only ust actually saw the movie this month for the first time.

So what are peoples thoughts on the movie...or did you, like me just not bother watching it?

Yeah, that was one of the underlying themes of the film (how dumb wrestling fans are) but I put the blame on the writers rather than WCW. They probably just had someone within Turner come to them with the script already written.

I found it mildly entertaining for being a shit movie when I was a kid. One that I couldn't necessarily enjoy, but one that I could sit through if it was on. I watched it a while back and it's such a poorly made piece of crap that perfectly reflects on WCW's dying years. The film has so many moments of flip flopping between whether or not wrestling is real that it becomes down right idiotic. Not to mention David Arquette in general.
Yeah that was so daft, one minute talking about "messing up a spot" the next minute wanting to train so he can beat DDP.

Cenas debut?

Wow, how did I not 1) Already know this 2) Notice it when I watched it

For years, I put off watching it because of it's bad reputation and I expected to hate it like everybody else but when I finally got around to watching it, surprisingly I liked it.

It was a hilariously bad movie that got some laughs out of me especially the over the top acting. If you take this movie seriously then you're bound to loathe it but if you don't go in with that mindset of taking it too seriously, you might end up liking it like I did. The movie only has the rep it has because of Arquette winning the WCW Title but had he not, maybe people would feel different to the movie.

It's not the best wrestling movie I've seen but it's definitely not the worst either. I'd take Ready To Rumble over pretty much all of WWE's crappy movies.

Me and my brother watched this the other night. Hilarious awful movie, but in a sense it's just that bad that it's...good. DDP made a good heel in the movie, as did Sinclair. Although it does paint wrestling fans in a bit of a bad light, if you go in watching the movie whilst not taking it seriously too much, despite the fact there's a lot of cringe-worthy scenes, it's actually a fun watch.

Only thing that kept this movie from being good was DDP and King hugging it out at the end of the movie to show that the entire story was a "work".

Imagine the looks on the characters of Arquette and Caan's faces :lol

I loved it when I was 14. Now that I'm older I realized it's terrible. The Jimmy King character is a dick. His family hates him the wrestlers hate him he's not likeable at all. He also sounds like he wants to rape DDP [With saying things like I will rule you, taking him down to his dungeon and making him his puppy dog bitch] His horrible rapping makes Vanilla Ice look like Tupac.

I loved the movie when it came out. I was in middle school at the time, perfect age for it. The theater was packed with kids the same age as me (any kid from my town basically.) I remember the soundtrack being good and overall a fun movie.

It's not as enjoyable watching now but back when WCW Nitro was popular it was awesome to see. Best of both worlds, wrestling and cinema.

Hello I saw Ready to Rumble as part of a radio competion . A national radio station Talksport said send in a question for Norman Smiley(ex WCW TNA and current WWE preformace centre trainer ) I e-mailed my question. On a T/hursday I received an e-mail that I could meet a WCW wreslter with a friend. I then asked if take an extra friend. I went with 2 friends to and we met Buff Bagwell and some Nitro Girls.

After the autograph session at the sports cafe London . We went even the kids to watch Ready to Rumble at a cinema . The film as intresrting

Oliver Platt as Jimmy King was an odd choice as he no wreslting expericne and Martin Landu as Sal Bandini should have an ex wreslter . The tie in where David Arquette was WCW Champion was Farcical .

Yours

Farhan

It's fucking hilarious!! Would like to find a DVD copy, but never see it for sale. The made up wrestler Jimmy King is hilarious. If you like wrestling, it is fun to watch. You'd have to be a fan of WCW of course but the jokes are quite good, at least for their time. Ralphie from the Sopranos plays the owner of WCW. Sting, Goldberg and DDP all make funny appearances. "EHHH SHIT BOYS! Sorry bout the mess in there, I WAS USIN DA JACKHAMMER!!!!"

I think I've still got this on vhs, lying around somewhere.

Falls under the "so bad it's good" category for me. The scene where the sewage tanker lorry and toilet roll lorry collide sums the whole thing up well. Total nonsense and toilet humour but I couldn't help but laugh.

I always wondered, but was Jimmy King supposed to be a piss take of Jerry Lawler? I haven't seen the movie for ages so I can't remember specific details that would suggest so with hindsight.
