So as we know, Rock got injured in 2013 in his rematch with Cena which pretty much ended his wrestling career for good and cancelled his feud with Lesnar and the match they were supposed to have at Wrestlemania 30.
So the question is, what was your opinion on this? Were you upset that Rock/Brock II never got to happen or were you glad to see The Rock stop wrestling as I remember alot of people hated him taking a WM spot from full-timers.
And of course, the cancellation of Rock/Brock II led to Lesnar facing Undertaker at WM30 and ending the streak. So the streak ending may never have happened had Rock not got injured. Something to think about too.
Didn't care one bit & this is from someone who is a HUGE Rock mark, I didn't want to see Rock get suplexed for 15 mins which probably would've ended him anyway
I had already accepted that Twice in a Lifetime would be the end regardless of injury so the Rock Brock 2 rumours were met with more rolled eyes than Undertaker
Suplex City was born at SummerSlam 2014 (after WM30). Before this, most of Lesnar's matches were very far from being squash matches. Rock vs Lesnar 2 would have been a very competitive match.
It bothers me when fans are short of memory. Some people think Taker's career was all about the Streak and now that Lesnar's is all about Suplex City. These living legends had awesome feuds and matches outside of the Streak or Suplex City.
Eh, I like what we got instead. I still think Rock vs Brock is a huge match and would have been better for WrestleMania 32, but Lesnar/Taker is one of the biggest shocks in the entire history of WrestleMania and I wouldn't want to lose that for anything.
Agreed. Say whatever you want about Rock no one can deny his love and loyalty to the wrestling industry. Maybe it's because his family was so involved with it, maybe it's because he's humble and remembers the fans that help make him. Whatever the reason, Rock never has to even THINK about wrestling ever again, yet time and time again he's come back. You can't buy that kind of loyalty.
Thought it was a great work, people still fooled to this day, may even just be better than Michael's retiring due to his back injury.
I didn't really want Rock/Lesnar to be honest - I didn't think Rock would go over and I don't see what that really would have achieved (considering Lesnar had ALREADY beaten Rock in the past) - whilst the match would have been better than Goldberg/Lesnar, I quite like the story of Goldberg being Lesnars kryptonite and not being able to get the better of him.
It didn't end his career. They were actually going to do HHH vs Rock last year but Hollywood forbid him. There's also a reason why they didn't put him in the HOF this year in his homestate because he's not ready to officially retire from the ring.
I think Rock still has one last match in him, it's all about timing. His ego is way too big to have his in-ring career end the way it did at WM29 bombarded with boos.
I always thought the injury was a work, to be honest. Something just felt very fishy about the whole thing.
I remember all the stories on the day after Mania 29 saying something had happened backstage after Mania and Rock had left angry. Then everyone was suddenly saying there was an 'injury' and Rock had to fly back immediately to Miami to get it sorted. It all just seemed strange to me. Apparently he tore some muscles or something midway through the match when he hit the first Rock Bottom, but he shows absolutely ZERO signs of being remotely hurt in any way. I know adrenaline kicks in and whatnot, but watching the match and even the post-match stuff you wouldn't think there was anything wrong at all.
I know he posted a picture of him in hospital, but that can easily be faked :lmao
I was personally glad that, as much as I like The Rock, he wouldn't be wrestling at WM30 because it made me think they'd have to work harder at making it a memorable card than they would have if they thought they could just rely on his star power alone to sell the show (and yes, I know the brand name sells the show far more than any one person does, but still.)
I also wasn't very hyped to see Rock/Lesnar II, nor was I in any mood to watch a third match between The Rock and Cena happen should the Brock match fall through (there was some speculation among fans back then that a Lesnar match might not end up happening solely because Hollywood producers might feel a lot less comfortable seeing Rocky tossed around by a 300-pound gorilla than they would have been with him wrestling Cena again.)
Ironically, I wish we had gotten it now, because then Brock wouldn't have ended the Streak that year, or probably any other year. Rock even said that if things had worked out, he and Lesnar were supposed to face each other again at 31, prohibiting him from ending the Streak that year, too. Oh well.
I can point you towards real-life injuries that are the same way. That doesn't automatically mean anything
