Triple H recently spoke with IGN promoting Surf’s Up 2: WaveMania. Below are the highlights:

On this year’s Royal Rumble match: “This year’s Royal Rumble is one of the biggest, most star-studded Rumbles that I can recall. Just look at the people who have thrown their name into the Rumble so far. You’ve got Goldberg and Lesnar and the Undertaker. When you start to look at that level of talent and then also see the Bray Wyatts and the Randy Ortons and everyone else that’s going to be a part of it, it really is one of the biggest Rumbles I can think of. Sometimes there’s a year in the Rumble where you think “Okay, I can see this or that happening. This seems like where the Rumble might be headed.” But this year, it’s really tough to call. And I think that’s when the Rumble’s at its best, when you can’t really put your finger on what’s going to happen. I can see this year going a lot of different ways and I think it’s going to go in a way that nobody expects.”

In fairness, most were unpredictable to me. Here's my awful predictions trackrecord

16- HHH (right)
15- Daniel Bryan (wrong)
14- Daniel Bryan (wrong)
13- John Cena (right)
12- Chris Jericho (wrong)
11- John Cena (wrong)
10- John Cena (wrong)
09- Randy Orton (right)
08- HHH (wrong)
07- Randy Orton (wrong)
06- Randy Orton (wrong)
05- John Cena (wrong)
04- Kurt Angle (wrong)
03- Brock Lesnar (right)
02- HHH (right)
01- The Rock (wrong)
00- The Rock (right)
99- Steve Austin (wrong)
98 Steve Austin (right)
97- Bret Hart (wrong)
96 HBK (right)

So there ya go. In 20 years I only accurately predicted 8 winners. :side:

I think he just gave away the answer by saying it's going in a way nobody expects. That basically implies someone not in it.

It's Finn Balor. Who, funnily enough, is probably the guy most people are thinking is going to win if Taker isn't winning.

I ain't gonna lie, and not to be mean or anything, but that is terrible track record. I mean, pretty much all of Royal Rumbles are telegraphed.

I got all those right, except for 1999 and 2012.

This Rumble really is unpredictable, but the best thing is the talent being added to it. Each guy could have a impressive stretch and there isn't any throw away names like there has been (dare I mention the 40 man Rumble) in the past; plus with the addition of Goldberg, Lesnar, and The Undertaker, we're due for a lot of first time encounters or at least a handful of mark out moments.

Process of elimination.

Raw has limited options for a Universal title match at WM33, and SDL basically used up one of the limited matches it could have had (Cena/Styles) at the Royal Rumble.

Guys like Strowman, Miz, Corbin and the like stand no chance of winning, so it's no point even considering them. Orton's never getting a 2nd win, and if he ever miraculously does, it'll be obvious as day when it's happening. And Wyatt is unlikely too at this stage, since he's yet to be elevated, and especially because they have their own angle going.

Your only viable winners currently active on the roster, and competing in the Royal Rumble are Rollins, Ambrose, Goldberg, Lesnar, and Taker.

Goldberg and Lesnar are facing each other at WM, and Lesnar is a part-timer so it's unlikely he'd be given a 2nd win anyway. Goldberg could theoretically win, and he's certainly big enough for it, but again, he's involved with Lesnar. They're basically out of the running, unless the plan is to set up something like Reigns/Goldberg/Lesnar, but that's obviously unlikely.

Ambrose doesn't really have any main event match you can make except for Cena, but that's unlikely since he'd end up losing that match, and WWE is going to protect him as he's the SDL tour leader and top face on the show. Not to mention, Cena likely ain't losing to any superstar from the current guys at WM unless that guy is Roman Reigns. That basically removes him too.

Rollins is feuding with HHH so he's out.

That leaves you only with Taker, who's the easy favorite amongst the currently announced guys.

However Raw doesn't have a Universal title match that would work with the current roster, unless Brock and Goldberg get involved which is unlikely due to them being part-timers. That leaves you Reigns/Taker, but Taker could just as easily face Cena, which is the more likely option since we know they were supposed to face off at WM32. So who else on Raw would actually be in a Universal title match?

There's only one name left, and that's Finn Balor. The guy who relinquished the title after getting a rocket up the ass, and is basically due back anytime between now and March.

I really hope Balor doesnt win it. Not becasue I have a problem wth him but Balor winning is so predictable. He makes his great rumble return and wins it. GTFO with that.

I seriously hope its someone who I never saw coming. Not some jobber but someone whose chance is very small. Maybe Bray wins it and WM WWE title match is AJ vs Orton vs Bray..... This is one year where I cant predict the actual winner of the rumble. 2010 being the last one.

I also hope the final 4 or 5 are guys are main eventers who actually can win the rumble. A mix of guys with the highest chance and not so high chance.

Like: Balor, Taker, Orton, Bray and maybe Jericho or Goldberg. With Bray winning becasue its not too predictable.

I just want Bray to win....
