WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross gave the following statement to PWInsider.com regarding WWE's decision to honor the life and career of Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka after his recent passing:

“I had no issues with it. I was glad they recognized it and recognized his passing. For wrestling fans, for many of them, he meant a lot to a generation of fans. I’m glad that they acknowledged it.”

“It’s the wrong form, in my view, to continue to wear out a topic of a trial that never happened and a court case that’s been dismissed. I don’t know what happened and all this other stuff regarding Jimmy and the lady that was murdered. But golly, there’s a time and place to discuss those issues. And one would think that we’d have enough intelligence to let the family – he had a lot of kids, man. They have friends and they have cousins and I think to just let the family grieve before we go back on this Oliver Stone quest of proving Jimmy Snuka posthumously was a murderer. It’s ridiculous. It’s embarrassing.”

The justification of the act does piss me off.

"who cares" Someone fucking died. Someone legit took away another person's life. That's nothing to shrug off. It's nothing to glamorize. However, as many have said. There are criminals in all hall of fames.

Crimes don't matter if you're famous.

Why are you wasting time on here when you have proof he did it. By god get to your local police station and turn that evidence over so they can get on with the case and finally close it.

Now if you do not have this evidence or proof that makes you so sure he did it you need to realize here in America you are innocent until you are proven guilty. You are free to think he is guilty before it is proven but I would recommend not asking someone to be punished before it is proven they are guilty. It has happened often that someone that was charged and seemed guilty was proven innocent. Have you not heard of the Duke lacrosse players?

I respect Jim Ross' past as a commentator, but he gives such garbage interviews and statements. He's a guest on PWTorch a lot, and just like this statement, he continuously licks the WWE's ass in anything they do, and criticizes anyone who says something negative about WWE. There's being a gentleman with class who rarely has anything bad to say, and then there's being a biased suck up. This will be super unpopular but fuck Jim Ross' opinions. I can't stand the guy anymore.

Edit: For anyone touting that he "wasn't proven guilty" and "the case was thrown out", that's because the judge deemed Snuka to be too unfit for trial. That doesn't mean there wasn't enough evidence or that the judge believed he was innocent, but due to the law that the judge is bound and sworn to follow he made the decision that Snuka was mentally and physically not able to even have a trial. Yes that's a real thing.

A question I sincerely don't know the answer to; did Chris Benoit get a banner AND a long video package of his highlights and the murder/suicide?

They've inducted wife beaters and (both proven and alleged) murderers into the HOF after the fact. I don't know why people are surprised at this. Snuka was arguably Vince Junior's biggest star before Hogan and he's legally innocent. Of course they were going to honor him.
Not true, Andre the Giant says hello.
The irony of the guy with the Benoit profile picture
Hahaha

Who cares none of us knew Jimmy. Or the situation. Seems ppl are just Trying to act all self righteous. Sorry I don't care about his personal life or choices he made. He was indicted for his wrestling career. Why wasent Benoit? Well they gave him a three hour tribute. But then the story of killing his family came about. But Vince clearly inducts who he wants.
Agreed to 100%

I agree with JR. Not that I'm defending Jimmy because there was enough evidence against him. But because this isn't really the time to type things such as "I hope he rots in hell" on his and his family social media pages when his family are devastated that's like adding salt on a wound, it hurts his loves ones aren't trying to hear this shit during these tough times. Let them grieve their loss in peace as they're innocent and has nothing to do with what Snuka did.

Case open for decades. No actual trial. Circumstantial evidence which is often undermined & dismissed in trials. A dim bulb changing his story, 'cause that never happens to anyone innocent when officers grill you for hours over & over looking for anything that might change. Do your research & see how often people not even connected to a crime incriminate themselves undee those circumstances & how the process has had to be reviewed & restructured.

You don't know. Neither do I. A jury, judge, prosecutor, or defense attorney never got a shot at it. In this country that means he's legally innocent. In the Court of Public Opinion, it's a hung jury. So by all means, stick to your opinion, your convictions, your gut but never forget that's all they are until proven otherwise.

I thought it was distasteful to say the least and you can even see in the reaction of the crowd, they were like "WTF? do we really need to cheer for this guy?". A graphic would have been fine, but it was just all so weird, JR, well let's face it, he doesn't want to be in WWE's bad side

Superfly Jimmy Snuka was a professional wrestling character. Do you all hate/boycott characters that actors portray in films when that person does something under their real name in reality that you happen to disagree with? Why should this be any different. Have you also forgotten that the man is dead? James Wiley Smith was his birth name. He played a character known as Superfly Jimmy Snuka.

I get what he's saying but it's not fair to honor him but pretend like Benoit never existed.

So if they get hard evidence that he did it, is WWE going to make an apologetic statement on TV and then erase Snuka out of history?

Exactly, the man gave 3-4 different stories about what happened. She had 39 bruises and contusions along with a fractured skull.

I don't see the need to tweet to the family "your dead relative killed a woman", in that regard save that for tweeting to wwe your anger they honored him.
