“The WWE Universe is different from the rest of the world,” explained Angle. “Even though I was wrestling all these great matches, most WWE fans didn’t see those matches. That makes me sad, but it would be nice if WWE somehow got my TNA library, as well as AJ Styles’s, Samoa Joe’s, and Bobby Roode’s so people can see the stuff we did. Those guys will continue to have great matches, but we also had some great ones in TNA.”
Unbelievably is *no* HD footage of Kurt Angle in WWE, for someone as great as he was you can't ignore 10 years of his career. Will WWE suck it up and call Anthem and pay a fee?
I know there is a thread, but think it'll happen? They did something similar with Flair.
This was the first thing I thought about when I hears Angle was being inducted.
It would be great but I doubt Vince will acknowledge it even though Angle is the 1 WWE guy who actually did more and had a longer career in TNA at a high level.
Plus most of the guys Angle was with in TNA are in WWE now anyway. AJ, Joe, Roode, etc. The only guys in TNA now that he did great stuff with are Jarrett, Hardy, Lashley, Storm, and Abyss.
WWE started to change their opinion about TNA in recent years and we have seen a lot of mentions for TNA in the network and even sometimes on their channel on YouTube like Edge and Christian about things that WWE will never talk about and Stone Cold talking to Styles about TNA these videos are on the YouTube channel so I will not be surprised if WWE bought TNA library on the network.
It seems WWE would buy the library right out if they could get it for a low fee. I would think the fee to use it would not be much more. So WWE could pony up since they would get the matches they would want as none of those talent are in TNA thus no new TNA matches from them. WWE comes out with some DVD's and maybe show some of their footage to their advantage over next year or two and then they would have got the top value out of the footage.
Yeah I don't see Anthem wanting to sell the entire library after just acquiring it but maybe a one time deal can be made. Also it would be cool if some of the TNA guys were at the induction, I know him and James Storm are apparently very close and traveled together alot.
Anthem own the library, they are not selling it. It does very well on their network and they have a new streaming apps to sell with that content. When they fully rebrand they are still keeping it.
Uh yeah, no offense to Kurt, but I doubt the strong majority of WWE fans care about any matches he had in TNA 10 years ago. WWE fans today barely have an attention span that goes back a week or 2.
If I was him, and a few others, I would as well.. Hell, since holding up Vince to get what you want is something of a past time, Angle could just threaten to no show the HOF unless he gets to talk about TNA and have some videos of his work there on the network when his next inevitable "dvd" special comes out. Those things always seem to follow HOF action.
Stone Cold mentioned TNA on the network but I don't think they showed any footage. With Angle I think he will make references of it but not be aloud to mention TNA by name.
Its the WWE Hall of Fame. The only reason WCW careers were ever mentioned is because WWE owned WCW. Without ownership of the library I doubt they mention it. Kurt could/should name drop it in his speech/thank yous but thats as far as I can see it going.
Except that that's not really true. They've said that they consider it to be more of a celebration of a history of the business as a whole. If not, then guys like Carlos Colon, Mil Mascaras, The Von Erich's, Gorgeous George, etc who had little to nothing to do with the WWE, wouldn't be there.
2 easy, important points:
1. Anthem JUST bought TNA, and the only valuable thing about the company is its video library (minus 1-2 outside TV deals but that comes and goes).
2. Kurt has 0 political power in WWE.
So, it's obviously not going to happen. There will be 0 'TNA' mentions during his speech as well.
I can't see why Anthem wouldn't want to license it over to WWE for a hefty fee if they asked. They'd still own it at the end of the day and it's free publicity.
Angle had some really good matches in TNA, although his work with Lesnar, HHH, Austin, Rock et al is all far superior but it would be nice to show clips of his TNA stuff on the HOF ceremony montage.
However, its weird what Angle has said here...the WWE universe wont have seen his matches on TNA? What, are those people living in a different dimension? This isnt the late 90s where there were large numbers of casual fans who only tuned in to see the antics of Austin or Rock, or Hogan and Goldberg. People who largely watch the WWE now are wrestling fans, they will have seen his TNA stuff, the same way as they fully recognised Styles on debut and this particular forum is often filled with non WWE news.
Well WWE don't own TNA's video collection so it won't happened unless Anthem sell it to WWE, which they probably won't. If they did, don't you think they would have shown footage of AJ Styles, Sting, Samoa Joe, Austin Aries and Robert Roode content by now? Kurt Angle should know that.
