Does anyone else struggle to understand the hype behind Cena vs. Undertaker?

I mean, I want to see the match but I dont know why people consider it so special and see it as a dream match.

A few years ago with undefeated Undertaker who can still put on great matches against Super Cena? It would have been great.

But now we have an old Undertaker who can barely put on a decent match anymore and has already lost his streak anyway, against Cena whos aura is nowhere near the same after being beaten clean by every relevant main eventer he has faced at this point.

What will make the match great? Will it be amazing from an in ring standpoint? Probably not.

Will it be a landscape changing, momentous event to see either guy win/lose the match? Nope.

Only thing that could make it a bit more interesting is if Taker was on his way out and this was his retirement match. Outside of that, and this is just another marquee Wrestlemania match, not some momentous battle the way some people make it sound.

People will hate but at this point Reigns vs Undertaker or Reigns vs Cena will be bigger matches.

It's a big match that would have been much bigger if Taker's streak was alive.

Now it's just a dream match that needs to be done before Taker retires. I don't care too much for it without the streak, especially if it comes at the expense of a great match closing the show.

It's because WWE turns what should be Wrestlemania matches into random tv matches and then fans support WWE in taking what should be random tv matches and making them Wrestlemania matches.

Re: Does anyone else struggle to understand the hype behind Cena vs Undertaker?

It's just a dream match solely because of the fact that they're two of the biggest stars WWE have ever produced, and they haven't faced off since 2006 (i believe? plus that barely lasted 6 minutes) and they've never had a fully fledged match under their current characters.

I have no doubt that if it did happen, something would be on the line. Whether it be Taker's career, Cena's career, Ric Flair's record, anything, i'm pretty sure the match would have ramifications in some way. Personally i really want to see it, the spectacle alone would be worth it i think.

It definitely would have had an extra layer of excitement to it if Taker's streak was still alive, but i think the match could still be worth the time at this point, especially if it happens to be Taker's final match.

It's a dream match denied for far too long. Now Taker's age and lack of Streak has taken some luster from it, but it's still a battle of industry titans.

The loss of Taker's streak definitely hurts the hype but I just assume this will be his last match. And since Cena is the biggest star WWE has, he very well may be the perfect guy to put The Undertaker down for good. That's how I look at it: a fitting end for The Deadman.

It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what.

Re: Does anyone else struggle to understand the hype behind Cena vs Undertaker?

Is your question about Cena vs Taker in current times or in general?

If it's current times then its because the current state of WWE is so bad that even a washed up taker vs cena match would be more interesting and exciting than the other stuff they can offer.

Obviously an undefeated taker vs supercena would've been much bigger.

Two icons of the business. Both very hard to beat. Taker who was undefeated at wrestlemania vs cena the poster boy of the company who hardly ever loses clean.

I don't quite get it too. It'll be a great match, but nothing exciting. If the streak was intact you would bet that the match would be gigantic because you Vince would happily give his golden boy the streak rub, especially if he is unhappy with his current position.

First time I'm agreeing with you. Maybe you have a little bit of brains behind all that swaggeh bs.

Thing is, Cena v Taker at Mania was neevr going to be a big event. Taker has some cross over appeal simply because he is from the gen of Hogan, Rock and Austin and got some rub from them. Cena has zero mass appeal. Having said that, if this was going to happen, it should have been in 06, 07 or 08. Thats it.

The wwe better not be thinking that Cena can be their next special attraction because there is nothing special about him and they'll be shooting themselves in the foot...again.

The only way i'm ok with this match is if they bury it half way through the show and it does not involve the titles. If there are titlesi nvolved, in particular wwe or universal then its plain horrible.

Re: Does anyone else struggle to understand the hype behind Cena vs Undertaker?

Oh yes, it's kind of ridiculous, but, on the other hand I just want Cena gone completely and never to return so I guess my thoughts on the topic are a bit.. colored. This might have been a great match about 6 years ago when it mattered, but now it's just nothing. I do find the hints of hypocrisy in the situation of it all kind of humorous though, this match, which is equally as meaningless seems to get clamored for but Sting vs Taker gets shat on by a majority. I just can't help but to find that worthy of a chuckle.
