Is Kevin Owens the most irrelevant champion of all time?

I honestly cannot understand how it has come to this.

When Kevin Owens won the title, I was happy as fuck and desperately didn't want him to go down the road of being another authority guy and for a repeat of the boring Rollins story line in 2015.

And yet, with the way it has turned out, it is even worse than that.

Kevin Owens is like the 8th most relevant person on RAW, and he is the Universal champion. Let that sink in. Since Owens won the title, all these people have been booked to be more important and relevant to RAW than him -

Reigns
Rollins
Lesnar
Goldberg
Sasha
Charlotte
Jericho

Holy shit, is it bad. And as soon as Triple H shows up and Balor returns, Owens will be bumped off the top 10.

This is the first time I have ever seen a world champion booked this irrelevantly. And its very sad because I am a big fan of the guy and he is extremely talented.

Kevin Owens didn't deserve this, but lets be real. Hes finished. With how many people are ahead of him in the pecking order and how disastrous this title run as been, I don't even see how he can be taken seriously as a champion again.

Miz was just as bad. Rollins was probably worse, as he jobbed clean on RAW more frequently. And he did it in a storyline where he was CHASING the US title as a heel WWE Champion....try and figure that one out. And of course, Stephanie/Hunter burying him to his face every single week. For everyone who keeps piling on Seth Rollins for not drawing huge face pops or being this big success, etc, he was probably the single worst booked guy in this company of the last two-three years.

But you know what, Seth was always "relevant" on RAW even when he was jobbing. With Owens, it's like he could disappear from TV tomorrow and you'd barely notice he was gone.

That's because Rollins was portrayed as a very weak, cowardly heel that with a few exceptions needed constant interference by J&J Security and Corporate Kane in order to retain his title. He was Honkytonk Man 2.0, and only in the weeks before his injury did they start to establish some credibility for him.

Going into SummerSlam 2015, he had a poorer win/loss record than Stardust.

Well when you have a mentally unstable old bastard running the place with a hoard of amateur typists underneath him who couldn't write a captivating story arc for somebody if their lives depended on it, and his plate faced, gravel voiced, walking sanitary bag of a daughter championing the 'Wimmins Revolution' and having them senselessly main event a PPV at a time when it's absolutely crucial to build more top male stars...then yes I think you're going to suffer as champion no matter how talented you are.

It's unfortunate that WWE doesn't know how to book their heel champs. I mean, AJ has been losing matches to James Ellsworth for fuck sake.

I guess the difference between AJ and Owens though is that AJ has an aura. You can tell he's a big deal, even when he's booked like shit. Owens doesn't have that luxury. When he won the belt he was essentially a midcarder. He needed to be booked strong after that to be established as a legitimate main eventer. The WWE failed him.

Hopefully there is something "big picture" here that I'm not seeing, and I'm not going to say he's "finished" or "ruined", but they have certainly done more harm than good to this point.

yup, the guy is a joke. his fatass needs to go back to nxt or sumthin. he is soo overrated on the mic, and he acts tough even tho he's just a fat bum.
Yeeeaaahhhhhhh nah.

It isn’t an Owens problem though, it’s a WWE problem. The promos are scripted by subpar TV writers, the rivalries have no fire or passion, they're just a way to get them from one PPV to the next...oh yeah, there’s too many fucking PPVs. The championships are meaningless props that get hot potatoed back and forth and even the World Heavyweight champions are made to look like geeks. Add to that all of the repetition due to a lack of roster depth on both shows, and you got yourself some truly must-miss TV.

He was given the title too early. They could have waiting another year or two.
His reign has been pretty non-eventful and he is being overshadowed by the more entertaining Chris Jericho.
I'd have put the Tag Titles on Owens and Jericho (to get them off the fuckin New Day FINALLY!!) and let Rollins have the Universal Title.
Owen's is starting to make Jericho's Undisputed Title reign in 2001-2002 look decent

It is sad, but his booking is a clear distinction of how the Sports Entertainment business differs from the Rasslin business.

Especially in WWE's case where comedy is the big entertainment method of choice.

Could Owens be a Great World Champion? But it helps if your taken seriously in an environment built around competition, not one where you have to be funny and hang out with a dude carrying a list. His run isn't about a championship. It's about nothing.

They should have put him in a serious feud with Brock.

Owens wasn't ready for the World Championship. All he needed was a solid US title reign after beating Cena. Losing that feud derailed his momentum, and while he's had some good performances and entertaining segments, he's been pretty stagnant. It's not even a matter of talent; it's a matter of perception. Regardless of where he is on the card, Roman Reigns feels like a big deal. Owens usually main events and he doesn't feel important at all. He's just an afterthought. I don't think all of it can be blamed on booking because it's not like Jericho is squashing everybody-he's just compensating with awesome segments and stealing the show.

The most irrelevant champion of all time, sadly, is Jericho during his undisputed run. Look like a bitch during a Rock feud, look like a bitch during a Stone Cold feud, look like a double bitch during a HHH vs Steph feud.

Wasn't the appeal of Kevin Owens that he was price fighting monster heel who would beat people up clean? They took that and made him into another chicken shit heel, that's why i was only a fan of him for a very short period of time and i don't understand how people still love how he is now. Shouln't his fans be mad?

Unfortunately, yes. He deserves much better than the booking he has received, but it's clear to anyone with a brain that Vince despises the fuck out of him. Even Ellsworth is more valued by Vince than Owens. I have no doubt that if Ellsworth was currently on RAW, he'd be going over Owens clean.

Well Goldberg and Lesner are not fair. They are above everyone.

Reigns and Rollins I agree with, Jericho is more entertaining but to say he is more relevent is not right, Y2J has not won a match in so long. Sasha and Charlote I agree with.

I REALLY feel bad for these new guys. I do, so much potential, but if you arent from the Attitude Era or your name is not Roman Reigns, you are worth at most two peices of Mcmahon Shit.

The only guy they want to get to that megastar level (even then not fully there) is Roman, funnily enough, he's barely seen higher than the other top guys. He's not even in the same stratosphere as their real megastars (Brock, Goldberg, Cena and Taker). Roman's push to the top has been a massive flop, it's foolish to think they can salvage it by keeping him face and persist with booking him like superman in the hope the fans will accept it. It's downright stupid to think that.

If WWE WANTED to make KO the monster sociopath bully megastar he SHOULD be, they could. For some reason they're convinced the sniveling coward is more compelling drama than somebody terrorizing the division and looking strong and giving the baby faces the underdog position. The HEEL is the underdog. It's so odd.

^THIS! Whens the last time, aside from Lesnar and of course Triple H, a heel champion didn't digress into a chicken-shit coward regardless of any and all gimmicks they had before they won the title?

It's simple really, he wasn't supposed to be champ right now. This all happened because another man was injured. It sucks, but it is what it is.
I can't except that as an excuse for lazy, shitty booking. Austin wasn't supposed to get injuried in 99, it didn't suddenly make Triple H and the Rock shitty champions (i'm not comparing the talent of course, Finn and Owens are nowhere near these guys, I'm comparing the booking)
