i dont get it, the crowd´s always dead on those segment just look what happened with Jon Stewart at Summerslam and he was supposed to be a babyface another thing is that most guest celebrities are just "minor" celebrities plus they have no business being in WWE except maybe Stephen Amell but what about?

Pee wee herman? or Betty White? or what about the cast of the three stooges ? and lets not even talk about jeremy piven´s "Summer fest"

why do you think WWE continue bringing this guest celebrities?

Re: WWE´s obsession with guest celebrities.

The problem is is that they keep bringing these fossils and outdated musicians. If they want to bring in celebrities and musicians, bring in relevant people.
Relevant people want little to do with WWE, thats why they can't get them

Absolutely. Sooner or later, they'll realise that bringing in celebrities won't give them sustained mainstream attention. Providing consistently great programming over the 5 hours of flagship TV space/week would. If someone tunes into a wrestling show for the first time and finds Kathie Lee and Hoda in the middle of the ring breaking beer bottles on each other's butt to a barrage of boos from the audience, I'm not quite sure how that person would be compelled to keep the channel on, let alone even try to comprehend what the hell is going on in a professional wrestling show.

Im a milf hunter and would love to see Hoda in that situation. I'd do disgusting things to her. BUT BACK ON SUBJECT yes, the celeb guest thing is played out. It really makes me as a fan feel awkward when someone of another entertainment world comes into ours and act as though they belong. Only one I accept is Pete Rose's encounters with Kane (and the potential of see wardrobe malfunctions from Hoda).

Re: WWE´s obsession with guest celebrities.

It was cool back in the 80's when they brought in Mr. T and Cindy Lauper. Compare that with who they bring in now, its stars that the audience just doesn't care about. Jeremy Piven? Summerfest anyone?

Re: WWE´s obsession with guest celebrities.

They've been incredibly lenient with guest stars over the past eighteen months or whatever, so it doesn't bother me. Especially when they only appear for like five minutes.

I just have to laugh though because they insist on bringing people in who were well past it over a decade ago. Puff Daddy? Larry The Cable Guy? They're missing a trick here by not actually inviting celebrities in...you know, who actually matter in 2016.

WWE can't get relevant celebrities cos actual celebs don't have time to go appear on a wrestling show, lol. So they're stuck with has beens and never wases.

I don't think it's because celebrities have time to appear, I think it's because WWE is still a wrestling show despite how much they may try to distance themselves from it at times. And any big celebrity doesn't want to lower themselves to appearing on a wrestling show and doesn't need to. There's a red carpet at some more respectable event waiting elsewhere for them. Kathy Lee, Larry the Cable Guy...who really wants them around anymore? I think they needed the WWE as much as the WWE needed them.

Unless if by "don't have time" to appear on a wrestling show you mean it's the "ain't nobody got time fo' 'dat shit" attitude, then I agree.

Re: WWE´s obsession with guest celebrities.

It's totally about ratings and getting people's interest, they think that if certain names appear on the show, people will be inclined to tune in and see what they're doing, and that might make them watch more in the future.

Unfortunately, some of them are so pointless that they've became an annoyance more than anything.

I agree with you on this, WWE are not bringing top celebrities like Jason Statham, Tom Cruise or Sly Stallone, they are bringing the likes of Puff Daddy or the cast of Entourage , LAME.

Re: WWE´s obsession with guest celebrities.

There've only been like 3 guest stars this year and they're hardly given as much screen time as they were five years ago. What's the problem? Just simply change the channel if it triggers you that much.
Jon Stewart was part of the second biggest PPV of the year , he was part of a championship match and the crowd booed like crazy, this goes beyond "just simply change the channel" IMO.

Re: WWE´s obsession with guest celebrities.

The problem is that Pro Wrestling is a genera that doesn't get focused on a lot in the mainstream media unless something bad happens, or a celebrity is involved (I don't count morning talk shows as mainstream media). Now, over the years WWE has utilized celebs well and poorly. The Dr Phil and Puff Daddy appearances were jokes, Barker was meh. But they used Floyd Mayweather very well, Mr T, Micky Rourke, Mike Tyson, and Muhammad Ali as well (for the record, when I say "used well" I don't necessarily mean in story lines, but for exposure).

Even if WWE puts on "quality programming" the fact that it's pro wrestling means no one will ever give it the time of day. Hence, the reason for celebrity involvement.

Re: WWE´s obsession with guest celebrities.

Us pro wrestling has been obsessed since cable became a thing

Wcw had Robocop, jay leno, dennis Rodman, Karl Malone, Kevin Greene etc on ppv. Tna had pacman jones as tag champion and spent weeks building up the debuts of rampage Jackson, Tito Ortiz and Jenna morasca

Technically WCW never had Robocop since Peter Weller wasn't under the suit.

Uh, 2009 sucked mostly for that uh?
I have no problem with it once every season, but it got to be wrestling fans and not wanting to use much time with singing or giving speeches about deseases, etc.

Re: WWE´s obsession with guest celebrities.

WWE will find any excuse to bury the full time roster. Whenever they WWE has an opportunity to make a full time talent look bad to a retired or sparodic appearing wrestler, an announcer(Look at Jim Ross' W/L record), an authority figure, or celebrity.

Re: WWE´s obsession with guest celebrities.

They don't have guest celebrities, they have nobodies who haven't been famous for like 10 years, if ever. In 2016, you have Dr Phil doing a gimmick on your show. Or Shaq entering battle royals.

You get it right when you bring in celebrities to HEEL on people, because the audience wants to boo them anyways. Like K-Fed vs. Cena....GOAT celebrity appearance for the company.

It would have been if K-Fed didn't have an unanswered win over Cena. Think about this K-fed has a win over Cena and Roman Reign doesn't who supposedly was to be a Jesus push.

The problem is that many celebrities come across as simply wanting a paycheck/exposure. Many of them such as Larry the Cable Guy and Kathie Lee almost seem to make fun of it, like their attitude is "I guess I'll come in here and entertain these backwater hillbillies." I doubt they've even watched wrestling since Andre bodyslammed himself at WM3.

Well if you bring irrelevant celebrities then you'll get the expected result which is nobody will give a damn about it, and as for other relevant ones they wont come to something like wrestling or they are too busy making money.

Bringing in Mike Tyson started a huge surge in ratings in 98. His confrontation with Stone Cold got a lot of mainstream press and brought eyes to the product. Many of these fans stuck around for the Attitude Era. Most of them probably left after and never came back.

I'm assuming they think they can capture lightning in a bottle twice, but they're doing it wrong by bringing in lesser stars AND not having anyone on their own roster as talented as Austin to make such an angle work again. Say what you want, but good storylines with star power draw far better than good wrestling ever has. The next star needs to have great mic skills and charisma. They only need passable in-ring skills.

They need to bring in someone that would actually bring people to watch. Regardless of your opinion on Kanye West, Kanye on Raw would make the ratings jump big time. And if he brings Kim? Even better.
