Punk vs. Lesnar. Still the best booked Lesnar match?

Since his return, it seems as though we've only had one really amazingly booked Lesnar match.

:punk2 vs :brock

I will never not be amazed at how nice this was.

You had Lesnar stay dominant. But you know what? They still showcased Punk. They didn't have him look like a total bitch [i.e. Orton].

He came at Lesnar hard. You almost thought he was going to win at some points. You didn't make one guy look weak. You still made Brock look dominant.

Why is this so hard for them to book now? Is it because Lesnar beat an old ass man at Wrestlemania and now he's supposed to be untouchable? It's a shame more of his matches can't be like this.

Oh man, remember when Lesnar actually wrestled and didn't just German Suplex fools all match long?

To me, this is prob. my favorite overall match because like you mentioned, it put over Lesnar's opponent big while still making Bork look like a monster.

That match, along with the Extreme Rules Cena match (sans finish) are my two favorites.

Exactly.

Lesnar was actually fun to watch there too. He seemed like a beast.

The endless suplex bull shit is just boring. It's not fun. They aren't good matches. They're just boring.

And that finish. How cool was that? I loved the idea that Punk almost had him how many times. I wish it was like that for more of the main event stars. I would've loved to see Orton reverse that F5 into an RKO and almost get that nearfall. It'd be tense.

But it'll never be booked like that again.

Either Punk/Brock or Cena/Brock Extreme Rules. But Cena/Brock ER was cool as fuck for the sheer brutality of it, and the fact that it was a worked fight at times. Not that Punk/Brock was that much different. Those two are easily Brock's best matches, and two of the best matches of this era, too. The squashes gimmick started because they ruined Brock's cred at Mania by jobbing him to fake MMA fighter, HHH in a dopey watered down version of Cena/Brock's ER match.

You mean in his 2012-current run?

In terms of match quality and giving both of them a chance to look good and get their shit in, yes. It's one of the best WWE matches of all time IMO, it's a fucking classic match that i have watched sooo many times. Love the three amigo spot, the powerbomb, Lesnar throwing Punk over the table, that stamp on him with the table cover. Punk got some good stuff in too to make the balance of the match all the better.

Although i'd say apart from the finish (as in mainly the winner), the Cena match at Extreme Rules was probably better in terms of Brock's booking TBH. First match back and he gives us a performance that i'm still in awe with, esp in the era that it was in. He was like a man possessed, a proper beast that came back after 8 years, off the back of his UFC defeat and still not long removed from his illness, which he was still recovering from, to give that type of showing was pretty special.

Plus he was booked pretty good in the excellent RR triple threat match with Cena/Rollins and in the Reigns match TBH.

Nice psychology in that match. You had Cena with the strong offense to knock Lesnar down and Rollins with the agile offense to keep him down. The two weren't even working to together in that match and so it felt almost like Lesnar was just the monster they wanted out of the equation so that they can put on another good match together.
I keep forgetting about that triple threat match. That's def up there too.

Lesnar/Rollins alone was just terrible because it was the same suplex shit.

I think the first Cena one at Extreme Rules was the best. In fact I think that's one of the greatest matches of all time. The Punk one was awesome too, Punk was killing it in early 2013 with the match on Raw with Cena, Taker at Mania and Brock at Summerslam.

Re: Punk vs Lesnar. Still the best booked Lesnar match?

Im not a big fan of it simply because Heyman had to save Brock about 90 times. Brocks beat Taker, Cena, HHH, etc. clean but needs help to beat Punk...
Cm GOAT was the only capable of making Lesnar win by cheat, dude is a beast, can't believe people say he will fail in his first fight, next UFC champion right there.

No but seriously, it was a great match, i loved all the stiff work, specially the BJJ combinations, probably my second favorite match of all time behind Angle/Benoit RR03.

Reigns / Lesnar and Cena / Rollins / Lesnar were very well booked too, imo.
I vomit every time somebody calls the WM 31 Main Event a good match, or even uses it to show how Reigns can have good matches.
You need two people for a great match. Two ACTIVE people.
Reigns was nothing but Lesnar's bitch too. Just because Lesnar wants blood and let Reigns bust him open doesn't mean Reigns was an adequate opponent in any shape or form.

And yes, Summerslam 2013 remains Brock's best match.
I know it kinda stings for the WWE marks who want to believe Punk is not good, not relevant, or didn't Move the needle just because he spoke his mind, but fact is, Punk was WWE's biggest, best legit star since Cena. And he's even bigger today.

They had the chance to make Orton/Brock into a spectale like this too which makes it even more of a shame to what we got fpalm.
Yeah, no. lol
Orton in the aftermath of his career is nowhere near Punk Status 2012-2013.

Re: Punk vs Lesnar. Still the best booked Lesnar match?

In terms of one on one I still think this one is better for being longer and Punk being a more interesting opponent for Lesnar. Yeah the Cena one was brutal , but the issue with that was Cena won. I understand why it had to happen, but still in terms of building up Lesnar back up it was dumb.

Re: Punk vs Lesnar. Still the best booked Lesnar match?

This is Brock's best match since returning by far. The triple threat, while fun, had Lesnar unconscious through a lot of it. Punk/Lesnar was nonstop action with a great story featuring a great anti hero and a properly booked monster. I loved it.

Well there is a difference between the best booking and the best execution of a match, and what you personally liked best. I'd say with zero flaws the SummerSlam 2014 main event with John Cena is the best booked Brock Lesnar match. It was shocking seeing Lesnar who coming ending The Undertaker's 21 year WrestleMania Streak now physically dominate "the face that runs the place" for the last decade in the manner he did. This match was the birth of Suplex City and Lesnar came out of this looking like an absolute destroyer. Children wept that night. Other than Brock's WWE return leading into Extreme Rules '12 the SummerSlam '14 booking helped make Lesnar the hottest he's been in this run with the company.

The finish to the Extreme Rules match especially Cena's 'farewell speech' still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the HHH program/matches diminished Lesnar's heat, and Punk vs. Lesnar was really Punk vs. Heyman. It wasn't the best booking to have Lesnar going 50/50 with a guy the size of Punk, or Brock needing to be saved by Heyman to create opportunity for him to be victorious over Punk. You want to talk about a monster showing dominance + vulnerability yet ultimately coming off the battlefield looking more superhuman? The Royal Rumble '15 triple threat match was great with Brock showing off how much a destructive force he can be before he was placed in a position in peril as the wounded Beast rising to retaining his championship.

WrestleMania 31 was excellent booking as well with Roman defiantly laughing/spitting in the face of the bully that's busting him up. Roman would not stay down like Cena, Rollins, or even The Undertaker a year prior and Lesnar came to the realization that he found an inevitable challenger you could not finish. Capping that match off with the shocking MITB Cash-In by Rollins was brilliant considering Reigns' booking was still in rehab until the Fall. Lesnar obviously would be off for the next couple months so they put the title on the new main event heel Rollins who already had ready made feuds with Reigns but more immediate Randy Orton who defeated him earlier in the night. That's what I call good booking.

I think they wanted that Heyman/Punk interaction, but it was odd for Brock, then after WM31 when WWE decided "Suplex City" sounded catchy and would sell T-shirts they swung back too far in the other direction and now he's not only dominant, he hardly has to put in effort to be so.
