Depends what you mean by Greatest

The TLC at Mania 17 with The Hardys , Edge and Christian and The Dudley Boyz is the most entertaining for me. Best match in terms of Wrestling would probably be HBK V Taker at mania and i recall a HBK v Angle match being brilliant although i cant recall what PPV that was

Hogan vs the Rock at wrestlemania

Sure it wasn't a technical masterpiece but wrestling has never seen an atmosphere like that before or since
I still wonder how that went down, who told Hogan he was gonna lose, and why he agreed to it. He didn't agree to lose clean at Starrcade 97, which was no less big.

Still Angle vs Benoit RR 03. Rock vs Jericho at No Mercy is second.

"The sold out crowd at Madison Square Garden has erupted. Chris Benoit's 18 year odyssey has culminated by winning the World's Heavyweight Title at Wrestlemania XX."

I don't think anything else will ever compare though Angle/Benoit RR03, Austin/Benoit Smackdown and Angle/Benoit RAW steel cage are close.

Re: Greatest wwe match ever

I feel like there are a lot of these threads on here but I'll give my 2 pence.

First off, I don't think any match in the last decade or so can be labeled as the best ever because they barely scratched the popularity of matches gone before and that is an important measuring stick. Basically, no one in the mainstream cared that these matches took place and if a wrestling match isn't noticed by the mainstream then it probably doesn't matter as much.

Some of the most well known matches in WWE history are Hogan v Andre, Hogan v Warrior, Hogan v Rock and Hogan v Macho Man. Add in the Rock/Austin Mania trilogy, Rock v Lesnar and a handful of others.

Sasha/Bayley, get the fuck outta here, the Becky vs Sasha, Charlotte vs Bayley and Fatal Four already changed industry, they just celebrated the "revolutionary" change with Bayley's matches, um cause she is the fucking baby face of the 4, who they wanted to give all the credit, when clearly Charlotte was the real catalyst. So people might say a defining point for either wrestler or defining point of industry like Bret/Stone Cold, but I say no fucking way it was.

If I'm picking WWE's best, it has to match 5*'s I've seen else where, and quite honestly nothing compares to Okada vs Tanahashi at WK. Cena/Punk might be a 5* but I don't consider it that when comparing other promotions, I might consider it a 5* by WWE standards, but quite honestly it is was highly over-rated.

Okada vs Tanahasi, is like Hulk vs Rock passing the torch with the skill level/story telling of Taker vs HBK. Among 5* matches, its a top 5* match and there is nothing like it, it will take 20 years to do something as good....And only other I feel this with, is Stone Cold vs Bret, and it is 20 years later and still nothing compares.

Bret vs Stone Cold 5* by Meltzer. It was a defining point for one of the industry's greatest ever, and it changed the industry, and no freaking way you can replicate what they did nor could anyone come close. No other match can say that. Taker vs HBK was life altering but wasn't like wrestling changed cause of it, and it was clearly replicated with HHH, cause HHH vs Taker got a 4.75 just like Taker vs HBK's 4.75....so yeah.

Probably Austin vs Hart at WM 13.

For me, I could watch the 1992 Rumble over and over. I know its not a 1 on 1 match, but its entertaining as hell.

Re: Greatest wwe match ever

The TLC match at WM17 is probably my favourite in terms of "Holy Shit!!!" matches, that was probably when WWE was at the height of it's powers with the Tag Team division.

As far as stories told in a match goes - Bret vs Stone Cold was the greatest. Bret was brilliant at knowing exactly how to work the crowd during a match and how to get the outcome wanted, after that match, Stone Cold was in exactly the right spot he needed to be.
