Re: Holyshit,WWE Finally changed the old Raw/SD sets after almost 10 years
I like it. I went to a Raw in 2008 and I remember thinking holy shit that set is way bigger than it looks on tv. It felt like overkill for a weekly show. This one looked shorter.
I like them both a lot. I also agree about the ring posts. The ring itself doesn't need to be so glitzy between the LED apron and now LED posts. But it's still a nice change up from the sets they've had the last 8 years or so.
The fact that these sets weren't ready in time for the first show of the "New Era" which isn't any different from the old era really shows how much of a hack job Vince is doing of running this product. You're supposed to bring out the new set when the brand split STARTS.
With as little change as there had been for so long I was just stoked to see the red and blue ropes come back. I'm super happy they are trying to really change up the looks of the sets to set them apart from the past.
Although lets see a few more PPVs cuase if they just use the same stage, then I will once again be annoyed at the lack of change.
This is bad, it looks nice and differentiates the show but it makes the PPV's look less special when they go with the same scheme. Summerslam felt like a event again much like Weestlemania. Now they are cheapening it by having both shows adopt the same set scheme.
The new sets are nice. I do think they're being overated however, simply because everyone was so sick of the 2012-2016 design and these are fresh. The smackdown set is very basic, tons of gaps. This seems another example of them downsizing, all the pyro cuts, unique PPV stage cuts and now smaller simplistic designs.
I would have liked to see the horizontal screen above the ring, like they have in NXT as an addition to the main roster shows. I think that makes ring entrances much more immersive - having the wrestler's colour themes and animations showing all around them.
But that's no big deal. The updated sets look great, and the larger ring post covers have already proved handy for some aerial moves.
Great job!
These sets are absolutely stunning. They make it feel like a big deal at all times. My only complaint is that PPV stages will probably look the same. But it's still fine because it'll always feel like a PPV when someone comes out. Personality I find SD's to be more memorizing.
