What's the actual appeal of a Bill Goldberg return?

I don't get it myself. I certainly didn't understand the Chanting for Goldberg at SS (I know the rumours etc...) but who seriously wants it?

Goldberg is old, just had major knee surgery and is totally one dimensional. Apart from his initial run I found him fairly forgettable. I think it's also fair to say that Lesnar V Goldberg is one of the worst big matches in history.

It also plays into the wider problem of putting nostalgia above everything else. Surely it's not sustainable as eventually you'll run out of past to reminisce about.

I was worried about the Taker V Brock Hell in a Cell because I thought they wouldn't be able to live up to the original. I'm absolutely certain that a match between Brock and Goldberg would collapse well below the original.

Just my opinion I know but I'm really struggling to see the appeal.

I laugh at all the Goldberg hate. Too old, etc...

You're all the same people that were begging for Sting, same people begging for Austin. Hell CM Punk is coming on three years out of the business, and he's already pushing 40.

Bottom line is who cares? Chill out. It's one small story line in an entire world of wrestling. The Goldberg "wants" serve it's purpose, and satisfy one demographic of fans. There's plenty of other stuff going on for everybody. The WWE is just trying to add variety. Some things work and some thing don't. You don't know until you try it out. Take soap operas(basically what WWE is with action) all they do is bring back veteran actors, all they do is rehash old story lines, etc... Seriously what is there left to do that people have not seen before? Besides don't forget not everybody is the same age as you, not everybody remembers Goldberg. He would be new for a LOT of young fans. Back to my point of bringing up CM Punk, you really think any 8 or 9 yr old knows or remembers him? Or should I say REALLY understands the story line and attraction around him.

Jeez, people are never satisfied.

It's pretty simple .. for me at least.

WWE is not worth the time or effort. They're creatively bankrupt, they have no new ideas. They've stifled themselves & marginalised their main audience (wrestling fans) in the name of profit.

Goldberg's appeal comes from the fact that he's an attraction, (still) & WWE have nothing worth watching (most of the time) otherwise.

I also enjoyed Goldberg immensely when I was a kid.

Nostalgia mainly. In his heyday he was one of WCW's most popular stars. He looked like a badass, had a great powerhouse moveset, and had great charisma. For all his flaws such as his poor wrestling ability and mic skills, he managed to win the hearts of many wrestling fans. The older fans can appreciate him for what he was back in the day.

I don't think anyone in this thread understands what Goldberg was in the ring. I am quite sure that the guy is still in a terrific shape, he might not be the same but quite sure he still has it. In contrast with Sting that was in a poor shape, slow and looked very old, Goldberg still looks like an animal, a wise and strong bear that no one wants to mess with.

You guys complain about age, "he is 50 years old"...

how old is Sting ?
How old is Triple H ?
How old is the Undertaker ?
How old is the Rock ?
How old is Shane ?
How old is Jericho ?

^All guys that are past or very close to 50 years old and yet they still performed some solid matches. Why would Goldberg that is a genetic freak be any different or worst ?

Im sure he "look" terrific just like Kevin Nash but just like Nash Goldberg´s cardio was always bad and he must be in constant pain.
with that beign said i agree with you about Sting, HHH, Taker, and the rest, they are all former glories that dont belong to the ring anymore. HHH and The Rock look better than ever but are just former glories.

I don't get the appeal at all. he's old, and hasn't wrestled in years. Even in WCW, once the streak was over, a lot of the luster wore off quickly, and he was kind of exposed as being not really that special of a performer.

It's nothing like Sting, who people never got a chance to see in WWE. We saw goldberg, and it was pretty forgettable.
