Calm down I know what happened to benoit but hear me out.

After losing the world heavyweight championship he boosted the mid card and made it seem more important.

He brought legitimacy to the united states championship.

He kept the younger stars in their place. In a good way not like JBL or hardcore holly.

He was also a good coach to the younger stars. Example MVP.

I'm sure there are other wrestlers who filled that slot whose names you could have used other than the one you chose.
Benoit filled that spot really well, I would say undertaker but he never won mid card titles, but his whole 2004 SmackDown run is a good example

Basically a veteran in-ring general that is a main stay in the upper-midcard and midcard working programs with younger/rising talent at the same time teaching the fundamentals of storytelling, psychology, selling, timing, bringing aggression to their matches. Having experience working with various styles of wrestling internationally would be a prerequisite. I agree we need a Chris Benoit - Fit Finlay - William Regal type veteran on the full time roster. Maybe AJ Styles can eventually grow into that role after his main event run is finished. Or Cesaro but I want Cesaro to have a run with the WWE or Universal Championship before that.
Exactly, you probably said it better than I did

How about Randy Orton?

Daniel Bryan filled up Benoit's spot pretty well (at least in ring skills wise). Too bad his wrestling career is done but he could still contribute in many ways if they give him a Pat Patterson type role. Coming back to the topic, yes I agree they need a locker room leader like Benoit probably a bad ass like Nakamura could take that role.

Re: WWE needs a guy like Benoit

Feels like Orton and Cena are transitioning into that role. The only reason John will win the WWE title again is to put over Ambrose since Dean is about to be forced to slide into the top face role on SD given that Cena is slowly bowing out. He just came off a US Title run but the company completly abandoned the title once John dropped it. I can see Orton winning the IC title in a couple of months and putting over a guy on the SD roster at the Royal Rumble who could use the rub like a Corbin or Crews.

Re: WWE needs a guy like Benoit

It's hard because there are no real vets around these days, the attitude era guys are too old and newer guys don't have the legacy.

Jericho sort of does it at a alightly higher on the card level I guess.

Tajiri and/or Kendrick could be exactly this for the cruiserweight division though.

Oh SHELTON BENJAMIN seems a great shout too and I guess that will be his SD role?

Like you said Tajiri and Kendrick don't have the star power or the legacy. Benjamin doesn't quite have the legacy nor the skills to be coaching guys like Cesaro, Rollins, Neville, Balor, Styles, Del Rio, and Owens.

I am not saying Benjamin is not a decent worker just that he wouldn't fit that role at all at least in the main roster. Maybe he could help out budding wrestlers at the development center that way there wouldn't be much of a skill gap there.

WWE will never get anyone like Beniot considerihng what he did
Did you read the thread or just the title?
It's been unfortunately titled but it's not like OP is saying they need a maniac, it's about veterans putting over and bringing legitimacy to the mid card.

It really makes no difference these days. As shown with Punk, the old ways of doing things are over. You can be a guy backstage who is like I'm gonna be a star, I'm going to force everyone who works with me to do their best work, I'm going to question stupid shit that management tries forcing on me, and in the end you just end up buried and not being allowed to make the kind of money you want, or get the kind of boost to star power you are capable of.

Because everything is about being a stooge now, and you have to be a pre-selected face of the company in order to get anything. A veteran type doesn't fix this. They need an overall change in attitude backstage, and guys standing together, which is never going to happen because the guys who get handed everything will never go against management.

Not really related to the question but I just found out that one of Benoit's tag partners, and a former Canadian, was found dead on the same day that Benoit died. I was surprised I had not heard that before. Just a little bit creepy.

You all may not like to hear this but right now it is Miz.

They used Miz to usher in Styles. Styles even fucked up and knocked out his tooth and as AJ said when he tried to apologize Miz shrugged it off and said shit happens. They used Miz as the initial point of Make Darren Young Great again. Miz was used to usher Orton back in from 10 months off, yes he got squashed on tv, but he is scheduled vs Orton up until SummerSlam according to Meltzer on live events. Miz was used for Cesaro when he came back from injury early on and they even headlined SD together for the title. Miz has worked Zayn and even Owens on SD as well before the split.

Miz isn't Benoit, Regal, or Finlay ... But Miz is essentially Jerry Lwaler in modern day form. He can work with or versus anyone. He can get a reaction out of the fans and for anyone going against him. He never gets hurt. HE never bitches or complains. HE never gets in trouble. He's traveled the road for 10 years. He has headlined MAnia, MSG, and he has a resume that is easily going to get him in the hall of fame.

Miz is that guy right now on the roster and it isn't close, which is why he went to SD just like Orton and Cena over Raw.

Rhyno isnt a ring general but ive read good stuff about his time in nxt mentoring the younger guys. Tajiri would be an excellent addition to the Cruiserweight division whilst Benjamin would add some great experience to Smackdown mid card.

None are really ring generals and the only guys close enough to a ring general, in my opinion, would be Samoa Joe & Nakamura from nxt.
