"When you watch any match with Roman Reigns, it is impossible to miss all the boos that emanate from the crowd whenever he appears. So, why does Vince McMahon continue to push him? And especially as a babyface?

Well, in a recent Facebook Q&A, Joey Styles discussed exactly that and he had this to say on the matter:

“The bottom line is if our Chairman thinks he sees a future star as a babyface, that’s how things are going to play out… Vince thinks it can work… He’s been right much, much, much more than he’s been wrong over the last 40 years. I’m sorry, but I’m not gonna second-guess the chairman.”

He went on to say that although there are lots of boos, Reigns’ actually might have a bigger fanbase than you think:

“Moms are the ones who bring kids to shows. Kids like Roman Reigns. Moms like Roman Reigns. That’s the reason. Just because some people boo him doesn’t mean everyone doesn’t like him.”

Annnnd he's wrong here Joey, don't know what else to tell ya. Sooner he realizes it the better off the company will be. It's nice they're using Reigns to put other people over, but eventually he's going to start winning again, and if he's still a face at that point he's cooked. A heel turn is a necessity at this point.

He's right. Women like him, kids like him, and some adult men like him.

His merchandise sales were very solid last time someone posted an update.

Just because the loudest group (the grown men that attend the shows.. 90% of which are smarks) doesn't like him doesn't mean that he doesn't have more people that like him/buy his stuff than people that don't.

That doesn't explain why he's pushing Roman Reigns POORLY. Roman Reigns hasn't been put over people who matter(Special Attractions other than Triple H. Non special attraction wise there's Cena.). And Roman Reigns characterization has been horribly inconsistent. There's been times that Roman Reigns has worked but nobody is protecting his character. He's protected in booking but his character is not.

This is way too easy. I think his job is WWE.com so he probably polled "Soccer Moms with kids".

Cena gets boos right, like hardcore, but there is a huge vocal group behind him. Their is a very small sound that isn't boos when it comes to Roman, like 1/8 of the upper stadium is what it sounds like.

Does anyone even realize, that had Vince had any real insight into what works, Vince would have avoided the Monday Night Wars by turning Hulk heel on WWE programming. Think about it, Hulk, Nash and Hall could have easily been a heel stable in WWE, but of course Vince is a genius, hence why Hulk was thrown out like last weeks trash cause he fucking sucked, a 10 year tyranny. It doesn't take a genius to realize that Hulk wasn't working, so turning heel was only option. Vince could have kept Hulk running for the whole 90's, instead he lets him spearhead the reason WCW rose to the top.

Queue Roman Reigns, even if a god told you that Roman would flip this company over if you turn him heel, I still think Vince wouldn't listen to her.

Vince pushes Reign because he sees marketability in him that he doesn't with other wrestlers. It's easy to say that he's wrong, but look at Batista, it seems pretty clear that Vince was the one behind bringing him back and giving him a monster push. And now the dude is pretty close to being a big movie star. If they would've stuck it out the dude more than likely could've brought a lot of publicity to the WWE at a time that it sorely needs it. Instead they went a route which has lead to much lower ratings.

Guess nobody told him we women and our children don't count when it comes to being wrestling fans. Only grown up people with XY chromosomes are to be considered when it comes to a wrestler's popularity.

I don't blame Styles for saying this, but thinking about the last 10 years, has he been more right than wrong?

I don't doubt that there's star potential in Reigns, I just doubt that he can be the central babyface on WWE television. It's one thing to see the marketability in someone, it's another to miscast them and hold everyone else down to make this guy seem bigger.

Sad how much Joey has been bitched out. The 18-49 male demos have always been the most important demos in primetime tv, NOT little kids and not soccer moms who much lower than casuals. Why cater towards them?

Look at the numbers. He's failed as a face. What's the worse that can happen if you turn him into a top heel?

No, it's about 50/50. For every Hulk Hogan there is a Made in the USA Lex Luger.

Vince is Reggie Jackson. Reggie finished his career with .262 avg., 2,584 hits, and 563 home runs. He is also the all time strikeout king with 2,597. He struck out more than any other player in MLB history. Why? Because he always swung the bat, even when it was bad idea.
