Re: Heath Slater new gimmick should be crashing diiferent shows each week and getting rekt until SummerSlam
What? Did you just start watching wrestling last week? I swear some of these threads just get worse and worse by the day. What you describe isn't a gimmick at all. He needs more personality and he has to take on a character that is different from his every day personality. Most wrestlers have no clue as to how to make up a character. They'd rather just be a television show "version" of their real selves. It's quite brutal to watch actually.
Slater
He is one of the few talents that can actually do just fine with his last name. Heath is far too annoying for wrestling. Slater is perfect. Dye the hair black and be today's version of HTM (Honky Tonk Man). I would suggest Slater start watching both HTM and Double J tapes during their days with the company he is struggling to find a role in. Right now all I see from Heath Slater is some ordinary guy who just happens to wrestle. Honestly if this were the early 90's he'd be jobbing to The War Lord. That's not trolling either, it's the truth. Younger fans today don't know jack about this business and it's showing on forums like here and elsewhere. Fans are part of the problem.
Anyhow, Slater doesn't understand that practically everything under the sun has been done already. Today's fans have no idea how brilliant someone like Bray Wyatt is and I think many younger stars in the WWE are just as clueless. I use Bray Wyatt as an example because Damien Sandow has been fired, otherwise I would use him as an example. Bray Wyatt is original, but at the same time not as much as you'd like to think. There are several stars that I see in Bray Wyatt, Jake The Snake, Mankind, and that jobber Waylon Mercy. Wyatt has taken past stars and molded them into his own form, creating Bray Wyatt. This is what "entertainment" is all about. There is a reason Bray Wyatt is such a name and loses no credibility. He is the best character in the WWE today, bar none.
Where is my proof? Remember Husky Harris? He fucking sucked. Husky Harris wasn't a true "character", but rather a wrestling extension of this Rotunda boy. There was no "act" to Husky Harris. Then, Bray Wyatt was born and the rest is history. Wyatt has been telling his story for more than 5 years now. No one else on the roster can make that claim, not Cena, Orton, or anyone else. The only person that trumps Wyatt in this case would be The Undertaker and his "streak" was destroyed. Wyatt is a story because he is a well formed character that is a blend of other characters from the past. People in the back could learn a thing, or two from Bray Wyatt and that's the fucking truth.
What should Slater be, or do? First off dye the hair jet black. Get he Elvis look going. It's pop culture and that's exactly what people can attach to. Get a fucking guitar that you can't play and pretend that you can. Build the moment of when "you finally play". Take from the past and go the Road Dogg and Double J route. Have someone "ghost" playing the guitar with Slater pretends to play. There is a guy in NXT who can play the guitar, get him. Set up the stage for this humiliation, but instead of the real guitarists getting the glory Slater destroys him, not make him. Slater is in no role to "make" anyone. This will actually make him a solid mid card heel, which is desperately needed right now. Have the ring announcer say things like "Slater has just left the building". Have him destroy a painting of Elvis in Memphis at a live show (then sneak him out because they might kill him). He needs to be this generations "Wrestling Elvis" except mixed in with Double J, Honky Tonk Man, and a bit of his own. Follow the buzzards Slater.
