Reigns will still be around the top of the card, this was just punishment for the wellness violation. He wasn't going to come off a drug suspension and be handed back the title
The Roman Empire is still gonna be in full effect. Like SHIV said, Battleground was just some humbling to let him know that he fucked up. Nevertheless, while I'm still a fan of THE GUY, seeing Dean-O being hoisted up by the SD roster like the hometown hero after he retained was great. :sk
Was he mad at Reigns? Yes, he pushed the guy to the moon and Reigns screwed up. So basically Vince said, ok Reigns screwed up. Who's next in line to be a main event babyface? That guy is Ambrose and he's getting the big push now. That said with the brand split, Reigns will recover easily for this. So he will likely be wrestling for the World Heavyweight Championship vs Rollins at Summerslam. Reigns will still be at guy and main eventer. But he might take a little while to get on Vince good side again.
Correct. Reigns is being humbled for losing his damn mind and getting popped for violating the wellness policy. He's also a 3 time champion and didn't need a 4th this early.
He had to be the one to take the pin. He just came off a suspension, it would've looked SO bad if he didn't. Plus, they made Seth the #1 pick of the ENTIRE draft, they prioritized him over the whole company, while Roman didn't even go in the first round. It would've made no sense to beat Seth, besides the fact that they just beat him on Tuesday. Not to mention, the fact that Roman got pinned is going to play into the storyline that Stephanie didn't want Roman on her brand but Mick co-erced her into it, and then Roman "cost" her brand the title. This will probably lead to her slapping Roman in the face as she's want to do, and probably just outright handing the Raw world title to Seth. All of it of course in an attempt to build sympathy for Roman. The idea that he's being "punished" for his mistakes when we can see how transparent that is.
No, he hasn't soured on Roman. He's doing what he has to do to avoid a severe backlash. The fact that Ambrose beat Roman in the flukiest, right place, right time scenario where Roman had the title won and then Ambrose came in and won the same way a guy like Miz would, if that doesn't say that Roman is still Vince's guy, I don't know what does. If he wanted to make a statement, he would've had Dean pin him clean the way Seth did where they're just fighting and Seth just hits the Pedigree straight up and pins his ass, rather than basically coming in through the back door.
I would say the outcome from tonight would be evidence enough that Vince is still upset with Reigns' *ahem* conduct as of late, especially considering they just suspended/fired Adam Rose for a similar reason. Though if Reigns stays clean from here on out then he's still probably a made man, he just needs to not screw up anymore.
There wasn't a single ounce of punishment going on in that match. Reigns dominated for almost the entire match, sometimes manhandling both Rollins and Ambrose at the same time and only being bested when they ganged up on him or when caught off-guard, and he still lost because he was caught off-guard by Ambrose after he'd already taken a Pedigree and had Rollins beat.
Vince is just trying not to be as blatant as usual with his love for Reigns because he knows the guy still technically fucked up, he just doesn't care. I wouldn't have been surprised if Reigns had won just to troll people :lol
And if they do go with this "redemption" storyline, he'll just keep being as protected as ever.
The whole situation with Roman Reigns reminds me of Triple H's MSG Curtain Call Incident. Triple H got punished for it but eventually, Vince did warm up to him and then he became what he is. Give Roman Reigns a year or so and make him prove himself again then, they could patch things up and look into the future.
If you invested time, money and resources into building up someone as the face of your company and they screwed up by failing a drug test and embarrassing your company, you'd be a little ticked off as well.
Reigns taking the pin was the right and only decision. I don't like Reigns at all so I'm not being biased, it's just the right choice.
Turning him heel is the only way to go because there's no way he'll be accepted as a top face again unless they turn him.
The fact this is even a question is bizarre. Roman violated the wellness policy two months after his second consecutive Wrestlemania against HHH. As a consequence, he jeopardized the plans they had for the title scene. Again, after two months. Vince handed this guy the world. Legitimately had the brass ring molded to fit his finger and he essentially spit in his face after two months. The entire company backed and played politics for the man, showing their faith in him by sticking with him despite two years of strong evidence that that it wasn't a "vocal minority." That he wasn't "the guy." He wasn't , but he was "their guy." To repay them, he went and got popped for a wellness violation and forced them to book around his absence.
Your top prrformer has to be reliable. As a matter of fact, he has to be better than reliable. No black eyes. It comes with the territory. It's why you get the big money, priority booking, more merchandise, and creative input. Reigns faltered two months into what would have likely been a 9 - 15 month reign at minimum, because make no mistake, Vince was going to go down with the ship in his effort to solidify Reigns. You won't regain 100 of that trust and while Roman will be a main event guy and a play a big role moving forward, he won't get the red carpet treatment like he did prior to the violation.
Doesn't matter who you are or how much Vince likes you. He's never gotten behind a guy as FOTC after a wellness violation. Roman is in the exact same boat Randy was in, and that is who his career trajectory will emulate. Doesn't mean he won't win again or have a big push down the line, but there's a huge difference between being Orton/Edge and Cena/The Rock. Factor in the bevy of talent that are actually over and gaining favor from fans and management. Dean is a prime example.
He's done everything asked of him and has been reliable. No major injuries. No scandals. He won the title and worked a ridiculous schedule. Vince loves that and a lot forget the reason he got so high on John in the first place was his inhuman work rate. Dean didn't have to win here. Sure, they needed the title but Vince didn't have to put him over and wouldn't have been booked him so strongly if he wasn't fond of him. The writing was on the wall the moment Stephanie began antagonizing him after MITB. Rollins himself is beloved more than Reigns and will get a solo face run to see if he's capable. I don't think either man will have as long of a leash, but they almost certainly will take a shot.
Consider the incoming NXT callups that have the look Vince craves. Balor is smaller but he will appeal to casuals with 'The Demon' and his intro, the women will love him because he's handsome, and the IWC will cut him a little smack since he can work and has an indy background. I don't even need to explain why he'd be high on guys like Jason Jordan and Big Cass.
Roman is climbing uphill. Vince doesn't like being made a fool out of, and he never completely forgets. He has big plans for Roman, but yes; it goes without he was peeved and Reigns disappointed him.
When you put the company on someone's back, then he goes and does something extremely stupid, a punishment is bound to happen. Vince did the same thing with Rob Van Dam. It's the WWE showing that Reigns isn't untouchable. Though, unlike RVD, I think the punishment will only be temporary. The fact of the matter is that Roman is still Vince's and Triple H's boy. Roman has taken two clean losses in a row, I really doubt this trend will continue.
Is Vince mad at the man he's pushed harder than anyone since Cena and the second most protected wrestler on the roster of the past two years? The one whose suspension wasn't fast in a bad light on screen without rebuke towards the persecutor? I'll let you decide...
Anyway, I'd like either a singles match between Rollins and Reigns to decide Raw's World Champ. Or something like a Fatal Fourway with four of Raw's top guys.
Vince is disappointed with Roman right now for his wellness violation so he's going to job him out a few times to humble him and then he'll get back on his usually track. Roman will still be one of the top guys on Raw but I do believe his days as "The Guy" are done.
