I think turning him that way is the more sensible thing they can do. Just stop trying to fit a square peg into a round hole by over scripting him and forcing him to be Cena 2.0. That is not who he is.
Thanks for posting this. I love house show crowds, they're so much more willing to kayfabe everything and have a good time. That was cool as hell that people were acting like he might steal Deano's title belt and cheered when he gave it back.
I remember on a TV show, I think the very first time Baron Corbin beat down Dolph after a match, there were three dudes in the frame behind them yelling at Corbin, "Stop it, your match is over! Go, leave him alone!" Things like that make a show much more enjoyable to watch than random CM Punk chants.
ETA: Also the beard, wow. Maybe I've been living under a rock, but I kind of assumed he couldn't grow a full beard and that's been what's up with goatee/patchy look he usually has going on.

He sported the full beard once or twice in The Shield and a few times after the split. It isn't perfectly dense but fills up over time and looks presentable. His goatee with occassional scruff (which is typically a cardinal sin but Reigns pulls it off) gave him a cleaner look while the full beard gives a more barbaric vibe, which is probably what he's going for intentionally considering how often they've reminded fans he's returning "a caged animal."
The beard thing was a given. After a fall from grace, most guys simply let it go. The whole "Beard of Sorrow" is an actual trope that doesn't only play out in fiction, bit applies to reality more often than not. :lol
One of the easiest ways to show that a male character has fallen into depression is to show him with unkempt stubble or a full beard after a Time Skip. Happens to be Truth in Television: A common symptom of depression is loss of interest in personal appearance, which could mean a clean-shaven man quitting shaving, or one with carefully groomed facial hair veering into Mountain Man territory.
Don't know if it means he's going heel, though considering the "circle beard" he usually sports is more associated with villainy and evil. (Satan sports one in a lot of depictions. Plus, there's always Evil Spock. Lol )
On a serious note, it sounded like there were a lot of fans happy to see him. Evidently, none more than the woman holding the camera.
Jesus Christ.
On the other hand, it sounded like a lot were less than pleased. Like or him or despise him, I think everyone is looking forward to BG and how this plays out between the three.
Beard looks good. Got a nice pop there but then again, house show crowds have generally been FAR more forgiving of him than TV and ppv crowds. Interested to hear his reaction at BG and to see how he wrestles too. He pretty much wrestled like a heel in his MITB match with Seth, so hopefully they go all the way and turn him heel.

Money he earns, they might not want to fuck with it, but nobody could look at their MITB match and fail to see Roman works great as a heel and Seth as a face. Seth is annoying as heel, but he sold being in peril there so well. Likewise, Roman is hardly believable as a sympathetic babyface, but does a fantastic aggressive, bullying heel.
Watching that match, for me it was like "Get help, Lassie, Seth's in danger!"
