This is Cody's non-kayfabe Twitter account, btw. That sucks. He was seriously misused

Cody Rhodes has issued a statement on his WWE release. Rhodes stated yesterday that he asked for his release from the company, which was granted today. You can check out his statement from Twitter below. Rhodes says that he was creatively frustrated and begged the WWE to let him abandon the Stardust character.

Rhodes also took shots at WWE creative, saying one of the heads of creative was 'busy hitting on developmental divas,' and the other was pretending to be Brian Gewirtz

Re: Cody Rhodes has asked for his release

Don't blame him one bit. His story with Gold Dust in late Fall 2013 had serious potential, completely squandered by creative. Guy has way too much talent to be warming the bench, would love to see what he can do in Japan or LU.
Repped. The fact that every gimmick he's had saw him go all in and add make them his own and present them with a refreshing amount of depth also showed that with proper booking, he was definitely worthy of the upper mid-card, if not the main event picture.

Goldust and Stardust being teased for so long and then being shat on, especially after we had history established for all viewers courtesy of the very enjoyable Rhodes family angle, was infuriating for me, a simple fan, so I can't really even fathom how pissed Cody must've been in regards to it.

Godspeed, Cody.

Re: Cody Rhodes has asked for his release

I am actually really delighted.

Wrestler's have finally woken up & smelled the coffee. WWE no longer holds the prestige it once did.

It isn't the dream job it once was & finding success or not finding success isn't the be-all & end-all in WWE.

Aside from holding his family name & a nice paycheque, Cody is wasting his time & his talents.

At least back in the days you had WCW, then once that was gone it was just WWE. It was WWE or bust pretty much, & was unthinkable to find wrestlers asking for their release, but that isn't the case nowadays.

:JLCsad

Wow wasn't expecting this he has so much talent could of easily been a main event player and defiantly the saddest I've been at a wrestler leaving since CM Punk.

Re: Cody Rhodes has asked for his release

This one just hit me in the feels. I have always loved Cody Rhodes but hated his Stardust gimmick. Cody Rhodes was poorly used in the last 3 years since 2013 fall. I will miss him a lot. I always thought he would have potential to be a main event player in the company. But now that is all in smoke. I will miss seeing him on my TV. I will miss you so much my freaking favorite Undashing wrestler.

Re: Cody Rhodes has asked for his release

One of the most underrated performers of all time IMO, What a god damn shame. He is certainly better than 90% of the roster on the mic and always delivered in the ring. Not to mention he could play ANY character they asked him to play.

Literally no reason he couldn't have been a main eventer and a WHC when you have the likes of Orton, Reigns, Del Rio, Sheamus as champs. But of course this is WWE. They despise amazing talent.

It's very, very subtle and slow but there is a growing ripple as it pertains to how this company books and treats the talent that aren't Cena, Taker, Reigns and to a lesser extent, Orton. Ryback raised eyebrows but a Rhodes coming out so disgruntled will raise even more. How much longer until talent begins outright revolting, because the snowball effect is well under way.

There is clearly fractured morale in that locker room. You see, it always begins with a ripple. A little stone cast away into the pond. That first ripple was triggered by CM Punk. Him walking and "telling all " was the beginning of the shift. Was he the first to ever leave prematurely and on bad terms with the company? No, but there was something different about it. These performers can pretend that they're all buddies and happy to be there, but it's becoming increasingly evident that Vince, Stephanie and creative are absolutely demoralizing their talent.

- How many men and women have gotten over and grabbed that elusive , metaphorical brass ring only to have their hand smacked away and banished into purgatory for daring to get over? I'm not a CM Punk fan by any means, but why is that he was more over than Roman Reigns has ever been in his life and yet he couldn't buy his way into a WM main event while Anoai just worked his second?

- How many guys have been INTENTIONALLY sabotaged at the peak of their popularity and forced into embarrassing, nonsensical angles solely utilized to cut them off at the knees and stall any support they may have been receiving?

- Why is it that Becky Lynch improved leaps and bounds and was arguably the most improved performer on either roster (male & female) and yet she was only inserted into the match at WM to eat the pin and has subsequently been stalled completely and used as enhancement talent for women like Dana Brooke, whose biggest claim to justify her going over is the fact she has huge tits, "potential," and "a good look." ??

- Why are the likes of Darren Young and Epico/Prmo still here being afforded "repacking" after repackaging and yet talent that fans actually cared enough about to openly embraced are either written off television or wished well on their future endeavors?

Talent aren't rewarded for getting over, they're outright stifled and often, punished. (Hey, Sandow!) Want to be creative with your character? Yeah. Right. Let's not forget, Cody somehow managed to get Stardust over. They did NOTHING with it. Fans wrote the storyline out for them every time they chanted "Cody." They did NOTHING with it.

Oh, sorry. That's not totally true.

They paired him with The Ascension! :lol My bad.

- How must it feel to scratch and claw in order to get a shot at a better spot in the roster, and yet even when you do great, it doesn't really matter. Even worse, the guy you outperform each and every night is gifted opportunity after opportunity after opportunity after opportunity to accomplish in 26 months what you had to attempt to do in 2, which is get over.

This is not the end. There is a snowball effect slowly but surely gaining momentum. You combine disgruntled talent with decreasing ratings and attendance, and this can't continue. There has to be a culture shift backstage and in the board room. As arrogant and maldaptive as this company is, they'd be wise to suck up their pride and look past the present and into the future. Be proactive and not reactive, because if they continue at this rate, by the time they realize the snowball has triggered an avalanche and they go to react, it's going to be entirely too late.

Re: Cody Rhodes has asked for his release

This honestly makes me angry. Im sick of seeing uber talented and once really over guys like Rhodes and Barrett getting to the point where they ask for their release because they have no future in WWE. What more could you want from a wrestler, what else could Cody have done to impress the big wigs? Great in ring, great on the mic, amazing with gimmicks, hes poured his heart into every gimmick. How can the WWE waste a guy like Rhodes but push the hell out of boring underperforming wrestlers like Balor, Zayn, Cesaro, Reigns, etc?

Re: Cody Rhodes has asked for his release. Update: WWE grants release + Cody Issues Statement

Beautiful statement.

Glad he had the balls to say enough is enough and walk out.

The dude gave this company everything and when it was time for them to ATLEAST give him a chance, they didn't. That speaks volumes.

EDIT: Also fuck that head writer. We all know who it is. Scumbag.

Re: Cody Rhodes has asked for his release. Update: WWE grants release + Cody Issues Statement

Unlimited Respect for Cody Rhodes, I read his statement, heartfelt, honest but so sad to know that he's been held back, I mean we know that WWE doesn't invest in a lot of guys but actually reading what Cody wrote really drives the point home, WWE is oblivious and ignorant. Cody has always made his characters work "Dashing", "Undashing" and "Stardust", I loved his work as Undashing Cody Rhodes, he really worked that character to perfection and got real inventive with the paper bags, it's a travesty that WWE ignored his ideas and never gave him an chance to be himself again.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel though and the last sentence of Cody's statement gives hope, he's not giving up his dream, he's still got that passion to Wrestle, he's Loves the business and the amazing thing is there's more options for success and the fact he mentioned that he's already got an offer tells you how talented Cody Rhodes is, WWE's loss will be another Company's gain. I just hope that more talent have the same mindset and take that chance, if they are unhappy then do something about it, WWE isn't the be all, end all of Wrestling.

Respect for Cody and I wish him all the success in the world.

Re: Cody Rhodes has asked for his release

InB4 fake he could've been a star outrage

He'll be in TNA or LU were people will pretend to care for him for a few weeks shortly.

Sent from my Z828 using Tapatalk
I actually think he'd be very well used in LU. His various characters that he has played in WWE would fit well in LU's comic book like environment. Plus, he'd be one of the few guys on their roster who could do a really good promo in English

Cody seems very creative, and LU fosters that in its talent, rather than shunning it like WWE

Re: Cody Rhodes has asked for his release

Damn. That's a big shame. Another wasted potential star on his way out by the looks of things. Easily one of the most underused talents on the current roster, shame to see him go.

Re: Cody Rhodes has asked for his release

Mother fucker.

Dude's a five tool player, great overall talent. I saw greatness in him back when DX feuded with Legacy and he outshined golden boy DiBiase by miles. Was great in an over the top gimmick, or just being himself. I really wanted a face run from him after the Authrority stuff and the tag title victory over the Shield, unfortunately he and Goldust worked that horrible program with the Outlaws and he never recovered. Stardust was a desperation move that was ultimately a dead end.

Just wow... You could almost feel the emotion reading line after line. That was a very well written and classy statement from Cody and man, it's hard not to feel for the guy to the slightest degree. Shame that his career (for now) had to go this route and I only wish him the best in whatever lies ahead of him in the future.

And the writers / whoever else sound like jackoffs.
