This is definitely a thread that needs to be closed. Making an equivalency between the booking of Roman/Dean/Bray is just asinine. Just a low IQ thread.
Bray has talent and deserves better, so despite his poor booking we cheer for him.
Roman has no talent, is bad on the mic and in-ring, and does not deserve the top spot. Bad booking or not, we boo him for his lack of talent and him being booked as the 'top guy'.
That not being entertained by him though is where the hypocrisy comes in. All the shit he gets for his mic work, but equally as bad or worse mic workers get a pass because people are fans of them.
The sheep fell in line and started booing because somebody else was booing. Then the somebody else created excuses, that change depending on its convenience, and the sheep follow suit. It's really easy to figure out sheep, all you have to do is ask questions. In all truth, they don't know why they boo Roman Reigns, while cheering for the likes of Ambrose and boring Bray. If they booed the how show, they'd have a little more credibility, but booing Reigns because he sucks as much as the next wrestler or the guy they cheer, is just laughable.
Or we boo because we're not fans of him. But yea, I'll take YOUR word for it on why I boo someone, because obviously, you would know how I feel about that person more than I would :Bayley
Despite all the posts suggesting otherwise its just hypocrisy. Shitty booking is shitty booking regardless of what you feel about that talent, regardless of if they entertain you, regardless of skill level. Its absurd the way people will make excuses for Ambrose, Bray, Rollins, etc. but Reigns, Sheamus, ADR, etc. get the blame for their booking.
The best one is all the shit Roman gets for his mic work...while the fact Styles, Cesaro, Rollins, etc. aren't any better goes ignored.
Style is loads better than reigns on the mic. If you have seen any of his late TNA or heel NJPW work. Rollins is GREAT on the mic IMO. He got that annoying heel down perfect
But I agree that people saying mic skills as the main reason is bullshit. Cesaro like your example is a great point. It's not fair to boo someone and say they have shitty mic skills and cheer and ignore someone else's shitty mic skills.
Because people appreciate talent. You can hate the booking of someone but appreciate the talent that they have.
Lets not even go their with mic skills. All I heard for a year was how great other people were on the mic and all they needed was a chance. Now, those guys have been given a chance this year and they are fucking TERRIBLE. At least Rollins last year had to cut 20 minute promos every week. Lets see any of these guys this year, who cut 2 minute promos terribly, attempt to cut a 20 minute promo every single week. Whole different ball game.
Because there's this thing call subjectivity that allows for you to enjoy one thing without enjoying the other since there isn't any adhering objective set of principles that says that in order to like "x", you must like "y", too. Fuck that. When Charlotte gets booked bad, I cheer because I see someone that I perceive as talented getting string around by poor booking decisions. When I see Alberto Del Rio getting booked bad, I already don't like the boring MF'er when he's booked "good" so what reason would I have to cheer when he's being booked "bad"?
Seriously, all this fucking whining about smark "hypocrisy" when:
a. We're not supposed to matter.
b. The hypocrisy/double standard excuse is just a cover-up for hurt feelings.
Heels generally get booked in the way faces do. We root for heels these days or underdogs because the faces always end up getting the upper hand.
I mean, people just hate characters without any type of real direction or "human" flaws. It's the reason why Cena got his shit. There was nothing you could say or do to him. He had nothing you could exploit.
Being badly booked is just a cop-out to say why either someone should be pushed or de-pushed. There is much more to being booked than just wanting your guy to win or lose and nobody on here truly knows how to book a character. We might know the generics but not the specifics.
Roman is booed because people dont appreciate the fact that the WWE is trying to force people to like him by doing everything to make him look like a big player. I feel like Roman is the victim of a fan revolt that is really meant for the guys backstage behind the product. People have literally thrown shit at him before (one got him in the head with a briefcase) and for what? Because he's doing what the guys backstage tell him to? It's ridiculous. I'm no Roman Reigns fan at all, I'm personally indifferent on his character, but I can fully admit that his treatment by the crowd can get a bit ridiculous. He was never ready for his position, yet the boss threw him into the ocean anyway hoping for the best and Roman is now suffering because of that decision.
This 'shoving down the throat' thing is also why guys like Dean Ambrose and Bray Wyatt still get the crowds behind them. People are frustrated that people like them, who clearly are ready for the top player position, are watered down, belittled and used as sacrifices for someone that the bosses want at the top. There is no reason why Dean Ambrose and especially Bray Wyatt should've been treated the way that they were at WrestleMania. None at all. It pisses people off when the ones that they want so badly to succeed are made to look inferior in order to elevate someone else who clearly wasn't prepared for what they have been given.
The moral of this is that backstage favoritism makes the crowd show its claws and the more you don't listen the more they beat down the boss's favorite. Start booking all these guys as equals CONSISTANTLY and there will be A LOT less problems.
Its real simple, at least for me. Ambrose and Wyatt act how I would expect them to act. Even when their losing matches they still hold true to how their character should act. Does the booking always follow along with their characters No but they make it work by maintaining a character I love as often as possible.
Roman's issue is that his character isnt loved. The Roman I loved was the one from the Shield. The bad ass who was short on words and heavy on ass kicking. Whatever we have now is some WWE meets John Cena spliced superhero for kids. You can claim its sheep mentality, you can say that its BS, you can even call me a liar but the truth is that those people boo him because they don't like him.
Just like how some people on here cant move past the idea that the attitude era is gone, just like how some people cant admit that an indy guy is talented, and just like how some people hate on small guys. Some people just dont like Roman. Maybe they have a reason, maybe they dont, and maybe the reasons they have make no sense but at the end of the day people can like who they choose to like.
How can people say it's just a matter of picking on Reigns or revolting against Vince choosing who he wants to main event despite the audience's opinion, when the clear reason has already been echoed so many times in this thread, which is a matter of talent?
Some wrestlers get booked bad, but the fans know when they're actually far better than that, either because they've shown so in the past or because they manage to shine even despite bad booking sometimes, like Wyatt and Ambrose; other wrestlers get booked bad and ARE bad, which is the case with Reigns.
This is semi related but part of the reason the reactions are flipped is because they book the heels and faces totally the opposite of how they should (at least those heels/faces in the upper midcard and main event.)
It was nothing in the old school for heels to go months upon months without being beaten by the beloved baby face. The heel consistently found ways to go over the faces, and as such, the face was actually sympathetic and asses were consistently in seats because fans were itching for the heel to finally get what was coming to him. We laud the reign and I myself hated it, but there's no chance in hell Batista gets as over as he did without HHH finding ways to hold onto the title for so long back on 2003.
Everything goes in cycles. The Hogan booking for faces worked in the 80s and may very well work again ten or twenty years from now, but Vince has missed the memo that Superman booking in 2016 does not endear the face to the audience. They bill guys like Wyatt as the heel but every time he goes up against someone who is higher up the card than Dolph Ziggler, he loses. Why , exactly then, should fans hate him or root against him? If anything, he's the underdog in these feuds with the John Cena's and Roman Reigns '.
You have "heels" that never win big feuds or matches. You have faces that never appear vulnerable for longer than the 5 minutes it takes for them to do a superhuman comeback to win after being beaten down for 20. The reason Bryan got as over as he did was not because he never lost clean. It was the exact opposite. Heels beat him clean and dirty (which got them heat and got the fans behind Bryan.) Vulnerability (to an extent) inspires sympathy from the crowd. The heels lose the battles and the war today, and in 2016, that's only going to endear them to the audience.
Why?
Because it's the bad guy that looks human and the baby face that looks like the invulnerable villain and obstacle that must be overcome. You're just not worried about if Reigns can beat Jericho, Wyatt or Big Show clean, but there's a hell of a lot of apprehension and uneasiness as to whether Daniel Bryan or Ambrose could or not, which in today's climate will always make that character and his feuds more intriguing.
I think it could easily be said it all depends on the intent of the "bad" booking. "Bad" booking being managment trying to artificially inflate someone the crowd feels is unworthy vs. "malicious" booking for the sake of destroying someone the crowd got behind management didn't want elevated. They are different. Context matters.
