The day MILLIONS (AND MILLIONS) of hearts were mended after being broken by piss-poor wrestlers, matches, storylines, ppvs and retirements; one man came back to electrify us again.

One of the best pops the PG era has ever seen.

This was when he came back as THE ROCK and ripped Cena a new one. Every time after this (minus his YT rant) he was heavily watered down.

I'll never forget when he gave Farooq the picture of himself. That was the first time I knew this guy was going to be the next big star. His last appearance was so weird. He was completely shot out of a cannon and I didn't like seeing him as Dwayne. This clip almost reminds me of the attitude era. This kind of trash talk was going strong every single week on Raw. They knew how to build up the bad blood and the rock was so good at disrespecting the other wrestlers. Now there is no tension between anyone.

The Rock AKA the biggest band-aid in the history of television.

I mean Rock is great but other then spiking the ratings once a year he doesn't really contribute anything anymore.
To me he is no different then Brock standing in the ring doing nothing while Paul cuts a promo.

You watch that and see how he knocked it out of the park. Then you remember him doing it every week just after/during after Austin in his prime. Y2J who was also GOAT on the mic and in the ring at the same time, Eddie G as well, etc.
We are never seeing the like of that time again. So many stars aligned to make that a truely magical time to be a pro wrestling fan back then.

He said "I returned to say and I will never leave again" 1 month later he left for a year
He didn't leave for a year, he came back at Survivor Series. Plus that was the whole play, that Rock left after he said he's back and Cena calls him on it. They had to give Cena ammunition against him and that was it, otherwise he'd have nothing to say against The Rock if he (rock) was showing up once every month for example

And in the real world, all Rock fans (well at least the smart ones) knew that the whole "I will never ever go away" meant that he's never gonna distance himself from WWE, not that he'd show up every week and every house show. And he delivered that promise 100%, WM32 would be the 6th WM in a row in which he makes an appearance.

Dwayne finally came back after selling out to Hollywood and gave his word he wasn't going away again but he went back on that as we barely see him now

Hard to believe it's been 5 years already. Wasn't watching at the time (or posting on wrestling message boards.) so I didn't watch it live, but heard about it on RealGM so I watched it on Youtube and marked like a motherfucker lol. That was a GOAT pop, not just for the PG era, but for any era.

To me that was the "The Second Coming" we've been taught and hearing about and since we were kids. God, what an amazing night for wrestling

That was the moment they took their heads out of their asses, yes it remained PG after that but if you look at the product before his return (practically the 2008-2010 period) it was too hokey and awful, it was too child oriented even for a PG show. It's this return that shook things up and made them think outside of the box every now and then. Seriously, it was that moment that started a whole lot of chains of events.

And as for people saying he's no longer The Rock he's Dwayne, I hate to break it to you but if he was a heel in that last segment he appeared in a few weeks ago, you all would've been eating it up. What you saw back then was a face hollywood Rock. I like The Rock's character now, I think it's fun and entertaining, maybe not as he was in his prime but he's still hitting the spot and IMO still miles ahead of everyone there. Besides it's called character progression, nobody should be playing the same role of 20 years ago without evolving his attributes.

Nail on the head. I stopped watching WWE after Wrestlemania 25, after watching religiously through the Attitude/Ruthless Aggression eras. 2008 really soured me, but it had the Jericho/HBK feud then Mania season, so I held on.

But from 2009-2012, the only thing that could get me to watch was this, the return of The Rock. Gradually, I started to follow more WWE again and noticed that while WWE wasn't as risque as it once was, I felt like I could watch it without feeling like it was a show for special needs kids. Then Brock returned and really brought back an edge, and now I think we're at a great point- pushing the parameters of the PG rating. It's generally clean entertainment, but we can slip the occasional "ass", "bitch", "moustache ride" or "llama penis".
