The only reason he isn't on the roster now is because he doesn't want to be. Scott Hall has spoken numerous times about how Cody wants to come up the old school way. Hopefully he doesn't get too brainwashed not to come to WWE before he is broken.
Cody could be the next Randy Orton if he plays his cards right. Not being a lacky to AJ Styles
You learn a lot more and get a lot more credibility making the rounds stateside and worldwide than taking an immediate jump to NXT.
Not saying jumping to NXT is bad. Fuck me, if I was going to wrestle and I was offered a chance to train and learn over at NXT you bet your ass I'd take that route.
But there's multiple options you can take. One isn't inherently better than the other, they're just different.
You learn more and experience more on the road in the indies and away from WWE, but you pick up WWE's style and learn a lot about camerawork, characterization, and expression over at NXT.
If he's smart he stays indie, does that for a while, THEN goes to NXT.
Too many young wrestlers have been ruined by seeing money signs and working in the big league instead of becoming seasoned the old school way then when they got to the big league they were ready. Chris Jericho spoke about it lots of times in that he worked Japan, Mexico, Europe, ECW, WCW then WWE and by the time he got to WWE he was very ready and one of the best all round performers in the business.
Look at AJ Styles currently who's done the same and I'm not saying you have to wait until your in your mid to late 30's but why rush ? Do you want to go to WWE just because it's WWE and be a lower card guy then probably get released or do you want to go to WWE a star who potentially could be a major star with the WWE machine behind you ?
Cody Hall is still very young and learning whilst in a stable so his flaws are hidden whilst he learns and gains more experience and he's doing it in another country so he's rounding out his all round skill set, it worked well for his father who worked well all through the territories then AWA to WCW to WWE and back to WCW in arguably the hottest storyline of all time and if he has as good a career as his father then he'll have achieved a great deal.
Kid is 24... he's got time. Imagine.. in the next year or two "Balor Club" becomes a large household name.
And then they bring in Cody in from Japan...
