When Bryan and Vince hugged, I felt that their relationship is not the best in the world. Just the smile and the hug itself was kind of "best for business". Not only that but when Bryan went to the back, Titus (I believe it was) and Vince joked about tripping each other or something, forgetting about the moment.
It was really annoying for me to see Vince stand right there in the middle and in front of everybody like "look at me, fans, I like the same guy as you do, I'm so hip". As if he ever cared for Bryan or believed in anything he did.
Of course he respected him. He gave him that long block of tv for retirement and did come out to salute hum. I doubt Bryan was his favorite but Vince knew that, although Bryan wasn't large in stature, he was big in the wrestling business and a terrific performer.
Daniel brought his stacks of papers from several neurological doctors clearing him to wrestle to see Vince before the Rumble. Vince agreed to reinstate him and he'd be surprise #30 .
Daniel was so overjoyed and happy, he leapt up and hugged Vince. Vince immediately shoved Daniel asking "what the fuck are you doing?", this shove caused Daniel to take a bad bump and hitting his head on coffee table on way down caused a fresh concussion. Seeing this, Vince jumped up and laughed, and said "Yooooooooou're Fie-yard!!!", Vince went to plop back down in his chair but tore a quad.
Vince loves Bryan as he loves everyone in the roster but remember love does not guaranteed a push or become a top level guy. it seams many people here get confused about that.
I think Vince definitely warmed up to him over time but the way Bryan talked about Vince's perception of him in his book made it seem like he didn't take him seriously for those first 3-4 years.
Not only that but when Bryan went to the back, Titus (I believe it was) and Vince joked about tripping each other or something, forgetting about the moment.
Bryan was no.2 behind cena at one point so vince obviously liked him enough. They had him picking up cena's promotional duties when cena was out injured but sadly bryan too got injured after.
Definitely what's best for business. But I don't think Vince hates him. Vince likes anyone that makes him money but because Bryan wasn't his creation he'll never give full credit in my opinion.
Vince was willing enough to have the guy have two matches at Wrestlemania, beat his son in law in the opening matches only to then go and beat Randy Orton and Batista in the main event - I'd say he respects him in some shape or form.
Vince never wanted Bryan to be anywhere near that main event. He turned Bryan heel inspite of the fans and the only reason he even got the match with HHH and the title was purely because Punk left the company which opened the door for a match with HHH. Not to mention Batista's botched return too
I swear some of you live in the wrestling bubble 24/7. There was no evidence that Vince mcmahon disliked him, and it's not because Vince didn't portray Bryan as super bryan on TV because he didn't win everything and he wasn't always the one guy featured.
I think Vince respects anyone would put their body on the line for his company. I think Vince always respected Bryan. He just didn't think he could be "the guy." Simple as that.
For anyone whoever believed, and I'm not talking about people on this site per say, that Vince didn't want Bryan back because he would overshadow Reigns, that's ridiculous. You think Vince wouldn't want one his top guys back making him money in the ring? Please. This is a blow to Vince and WWE and if he could have he'd have him back in the ring.
Vince obviously likes Bryan, even if he never wanted him headlining Wrestlemania or becoming the #2 face of the company. Look at Bryan's career outside of his main event credentials, that's clearly someone who the company values in some way.
That said, McMahon is a known sociopath and despite sometimes showing a good heart, is probably at least a little glad he no longer has to deal with Bryan anymore as far as getting in the way of others he wants to push over him. If Ambrose wins over Reigns at Fast Lane, I take back what I said.
