Indy hate

what i don't get is how some wrestling fans hate on guys who have come from the indies like ROH,PWG,NJPW, but don't forget that almost every legend in the business started locally, and gone up through the indies.

So whats really with the indy hate?

(posted on here because more people would see this and take it seriously rather then rants)

I just wonder how many of thr indy haters have ever even actually watched the indys. Perhaps they are just hating it to be contrarian to those who are fans of it?
Basically this. Most of them are tryhards who try too hard to be different imo. I mean, I don't really watch the indies (Unless NXT and LU somehow count as the indies.) and I find that shit annoying. Usually I prefer indy guys over WWE-made guys because they're generally more well-rounded.

The problem is not that they come from the indy.
The problem is the hype smarks give them. Like they sell it like Stone Cold is coming back full time at the level he was in his prime when it's just some generic boring guy who just knows to do some flips.
If people didn't overhype them and didn't jump on anyone who is not creaming his pants, people who are not indy marks will be able to enjoy them more.

there's a generalization, it's not like we dislike indies or wrestlers who came from the indies, most came from there, it's more the stereotype of the Phily/SoCal/NY smarks, their taste for flippy hipster looking vanilla midgets, and hate for guys that WWE/TNA fans actually love (I've seen so much blind hate for EC3, Eli Drake, Bram, Galloway and other guys that are actually great)...
actually the indies are a mixed bag to me, and as long as the wrestlers have personality, look like badasses and are good in the ring, then I'll care about them, now I couldn't give a shit about a guy that (no matter how good his flips, kicks and holds are) looks and talks like a freakin' geek straight out of Starbucks or a Comic Con (we're lookin' at you, Daniel Bryan!)...

this exactly

My issue is with people calling New Japan an indy. Any promotion that has been around for decades and regularly draws tens of thousands of people isn't an "indy".
fair point, besides both AJPW and NJPW had a fair share of top names from WCW, WWF/E and TNA in their cards...

I've got no problem with indy guys as long as they have charisma, mic skills and a good look. That's not exclusive to indy guys though, that's just what I want in a WWE superstar.

Indy fans however.. they're the fucking worst and a cancer to any wrestling related discussion.

Personally I find watching indy shows mostly depressing. Being in some small cafetaria in your underwear putting your body and life on the line to impress 10 ungrateful fat guys in folding chairs... that's your life... I just can't watch that stuff.

Only when it's guys who've actually made it later on, earlier matches from those that are in WWE now, I can handle that.
again... this exactly

You can't really compare the current indys to the territory days; indy is practically it's own style now-- lot's of kicks, flips, no selling and spot-cover-kickouts; the indy guys themselves tend to be small, regular looking, bland and poor mic workers. Some of us watch WWE because we actually like the WWE style so we don't want to see it become like the 3580924613 other promotions out there that aren't doing the WWE style.

It doesn't even make sense why people who don't like WWE watch it hoping it becomes more like the organizations they do like-- why not just watch the ones you like and say "fuck WWE"?

This!

If I might add, I don't totally "hate" the Indie guys but they are dime-a-dozen in the WWE or outside, nowadays.

There are many that just end up over-hyped and don't bring anything new to the table. For example, I'd rather take Kevin Owens than Neville and both were in the Indies. Kevin Owens is different while Neville, I have seen many look and wrestle like him.

One of the things that bother me is that many wrestling fans want WWE to become an Indie fed and in fairness, it is becoming like one. Indie fans pretty much have a lot for them, they have ROH, NJPW, LU, and even an Indie WWE brand in NXT... why can't WWE be WWE?

To someone who has watched indy promotions such as ROH and PWG at an on and off basis, I wouldn't say I hate certain wrestlers simply because they come from the indies.

Some of the guys I really like in the WWE right now are Rollins, Owens and Neville (believe started off in the UK), not to mention Zayn on NXT, along with Joe and of course, the phenomenal one, AJ Styles.

The issue is, that a lot of indy guys simply get credit for being at the indies, where just about everyone is loved and when they arrive in the WWE, they bring their bad habits, some of which includes over selling, making moves look flashy rather than effective, terrible mic work and zero character...in fact most characters and motivations consist of "I can wrestle!!". That's not pro wrestling, especially considering the WWE set the bar so high with the likes of Austin, Rock, HBK, Bret, Lesnar, Angle and co.

Because it is becoming more old school which the indies follow and HHH loves every day.

The old circus style is being tamed down with more push going to telling the story in the ring where it belongs. You could build the feud outside the ring that has always been the case but the pay off needs to happen in the ring. It not that it is going against what Vince knows either. He took over for his father who was as old school as it gets and HHH is a student of Wrestling who favorite time was NWA 84 to 89 so that is not a bad thing to follow if you know your wrestling.

Wrestling always moves in circles, its just time for a more classic style again. God knows the WWF/WWE hasn't seen that in over 30 years.

ROH,NJPW not everyone can watch them on tv, maybe if they stream it but you can stream anything these days, WWE,TNA both are primetime national television, just like ECW use to be indie till they got on TNN. LU i haven't watched much of yet, but is it on free tv?

I don't even hate indy wrestlers, because some of them can be good like Rollins or Bryan. I just hate the fact that WWE has too many small wrestlers without charisma nowadays, and i hate that the company is losing its Attitude Era essence. When i say "indy wrestlers", i mean "wrestlers without charisma, size and look whose only talent is to be good in the ring"

You realized the guys you love like Punk, Bryan, Rollins, so on and so forth would smack you right in the mouth for bad mouthing the places they got there starts. How bout enjoying all wrestling and where they came from. Hell Vince would smack you in the face for badmouthing the business which is what you are doing by putting down Indies who Believe it or not Vince needs more then ever and is a backer of.

I don't think its just indy fans really, WWE fans complain alot about the product thats what a fan does these days, its more bitching and complaining about what the company has done wrong then it has done right.

IMO i would never actually hate on a wrestler past or present for what they have accomplished in their career, but as a fan i will not always like every wrestler i see lol

what do people consider indys? because to me indys are local shows/promotions, like i think ecw was indy before it got televised cause it never travelled, it started out in the bingo hall in philly, which the ecw crowds loved, ROH to me is indy because they are a gateway promotion imo great wrestling, but they aren't a top company.

Reigns fans are such Indie smarks.

I don't hate indies but i hate indie fans and here are few reasons:

1.A lot of them think that WWE should be like indies and that is wrong; if I wanted to watch some match with lot's of kicks, flips,no selling and no storytelling then I'd watch ROH/PWG
2.Indy fans logic: If he's goat in the ring he should be the pushed and he should be champ(I'm gonna use Cesaro as example)
3.I hate when indy fans overhype all the guys that come from indies(I didn't like Kevin Owens when he came in because he was overhyped as fuck)
4.If some of indy darlings lose the match then he's ''buried'' and it's hapenning ALL THE TIME on this forum
5.I hate threads like ''WWE should sign this guy and that guy'' because WWE don't need more indy guys that suck on mic and can't act
6.And I absolutely hate overhyping of the Bullet Club because they are nothing but wannabe nWo spot monkeys

Indie fans can be really delusional sometimes, WWE fans don't wanna watch some stupid spotfest match between two generic and boring guys.
Id' rather watch 3 hours of RAW with Val Venis, Al Snow, New Age Outlaws, etc. than 3 hour spotfest with Young Bucks and 5 star matches with Dean Malenko and Lance Storm because I don't care how good they are in the ring if they are boooring or no selling spotmonkeys like Young Bucks
