I'd say that their momentum was destroyed after they lost to The New Day at MSG on the WWE Network special. That's not to say that I wanted the Dudleys to go over The New Day, but if the WWE was serious about making them relevant again then that was the time to have given them the titles.
Really depends on how you are trying to measure your "success"
They are veterans who came in and put over The New Day and I think (ok maybe hope) they are going to be putting over The Wyatts now. So to me that is not a failure. :draper2
They should have won the titles. Winning twice in DQ fashion made people stop caring so much, and when they lost it was pretty much irrelevant, even the New Age Outlaws got the belts and managed to help put the Usos over, but the Dudleys are just putting teams over without actually earning anything in return so...
In my opinion, it's not a failure YET, but it is a disappointing utilization of a great opportunity to use the Dudleys to put people over.
It's not totally failed yet, but it's heading that way.
They probably should have won the belts when they were still hot from their return. Since then the nostalgia feeling has worn off and they just aren't as good as what they used to be, for various reasons.
It's just slowed down now and they are another team on the roster. The table segment was nice but I just cannot care about 2015 Tommy Dreamer, and by extension I can't say I care much for them now, not any more than anyone else, anyway.
I think they could do better as singles. Well... Bully would certainly be interesting, and D-Von could be decent like Golddust. They'd be much more investing to me in that way, after the nostalgia of them as a team.
The New Day made them into jokes, so yea. Of course it's been a failure. Literally one of their ppv matches involved the New Day screwing around (playing the trombone, swinging their hips, ec) with The Dudley's getting about 10% offense in.
I'm not ready to say that just yet. The Dudleyz faced the new hot team in The New Day and are now on a collision course with The Wyatt Family. Now, if they aren't in the tag title match at Mania (TLC, anyone?), then I'll call it a failure. Even if they don't win the titles during this run, at least they can say they gave a little rub to the current teams.
but if the Dudleys can't revitalize the Tag Team division nothing is gonna revitalize the tag team division.
Im also tired of seeing them lose to the New Day every week, but at least it looks like they might have some kind of tables match or TLC match w/the Wyatts at the TLC PPV.
I think they have been fine so far, though I didn't have any expectations of them winning the titles. Figured they were there to put over talent like New Day and Wyatt Family and any title reign they possibly get, would be brief.
No, it hasn't. They're better off as heels but at the moment, it makes sense for them to be faces, and then eventually turn heel and feud with Uso's, Lucha, etc.
They should have put the belts on them at that MSG Network special because the timing was right, and it would show people that things can happen on these specials.
The nostalgia has worn off to a degree, but they're still the second most interesting tag team at the moment.
Yes. They just aren't as good as top tag teams like The New Day and The Usos.
