Bryan could have been but unfortunately injuries stopped that.
Punk and Bryan are ROH but Punk was, and Bryan could have been (but was to an extent), one of the 2 or 3 biggest superstars of his era.
Potentially Rollins could as well, and Owens, as both look to have bright futures. Cesaro could also but he's one of those who always deserves it but seems to never be given a proper chance.
Sami Zayn too, and Itami, could have a good few years.
Out of the list though I think Rollins, who could surpass Bryan and may even reach Punk's, kayfabe, level.
Bryan Danielson was one of the most over superstars in WWE history. At his peak his popularity(if you consider today's era of low attention span, spoilers, internet, etc) he surpassed Rock & Stone Cold. People booed HBK & Rock(Rumble celebrating with Reigns) for him which is rare, I don't think people expected this.
Bryan was oen of the greatest in-ring worker with some other like HBK, Benoit, etc ever in WWE History. He had one of the worst booking and got over. CM Punk got undefeated streak in ECW in his 1st storyline, 2 MITB (1 even from obscure ECW) , Multiple World Championships. In 10 years + or more, CM Punk had the longest WWE Championship reign ever (400+ days). Bryan was treated like a jobber.
Also Bryan's matches were insanely fun to watch, he made wrestling (which many people don't enjoy and they mostly enjoy the drama) very watchable. His character development from the Yes thing, the way he developed his mic skills from a very mediocre mic worker was praiseworthy.
I think CM Punk is one of the best MIC Workers in WWE history. But given Bryan's extra-ordinary popularity, connect & in-ring style he was the best ROH import.
See, I respect CM Punk but when you have possibly the GREATEST In-RING Performer and possible the MOST OVER SUPERSTAR in history (with Hogan-Stone Cold-Rock), that guy have to recognized
You act like Bryan wasn't World champion like 3 times and heavily feutured with Team Hell No. You also seem to forget his first wwe match was against the world champ at the time. Neither Punk nor Bryan were jobbers. They were always pushed, just not to the extent they deserved.
on thread: I don't know how anyone with a brain has any pick other than Bryan or Punk. The title says "greatest wwe superstar". Owens, Rollins and Cesaro have nothing on Punk and Bryan right now.
If this was who was the better wrestler in wwe from roh it could be different
In ring: CM Punk, Bryan, Cesaro, Rollins, Owens
Mic: CM Punk, Owens, Bryan, Rollins, Cesaro
I love all of the guys listed, but for me it has to be Punk. He was not only good in the ring but one of the best on the mic. In a sports entertainment aspect, he was the best to come out of ROH.
They are all absolutely class but for me CM Punk was THE one. The one that had the most potential to become a huge star. He just had that X Factor in my eyes despite all his perceived shortcomings from his detractors.
He was a great wrestler
Great on the mic
Smart
In sync with pop culture and the wrestling fans of today
A good speaker when he did do media events
Marketable
It's a sin that the WWE chose to squash his momentum in 2011 rather than build on it. They picked the status quo of Randy Orton and John Cena who were already stale back then instead of using the momentum of the "pipebomb" and Punk's own passion to build a new era and a new face of that era.
A real shame.
If Punk remained his 2011 incarnate for the rest of his career, it would be him. After the Jericho feud during his title reign, he became redundant and boring and I lost all interest in him. Bryan has been the most consistently entertaining of that list. Kevin Owens' NXT run was great, but he's just getting started on the main roster, so I don't think it's fair to call him the greatest right now. Potentially, it's possible.
It has to be between Punk and Bryan as of right now (Rollins or Owens will probably get up there eventually) so it really just comes down to which you prefer, mic work or in-ring work. Punk and Bryan are great at both things, but Punk is better on the mic, while Bryan is better in the ring. I prefer mic work so I'd say Punk.
Mah NEGGA CM Puuunk, one of the greatest all around professional wrestler the bussiness will ever see!
