Someone on reddit came up with a list of things WWE has done to get Reigns over, or at least try to get him over. Most of them are pretty obvious to us really, but I thought it was funny nonetheless. So here it is.
That is because Reigns and Ambrose carried him, and now that Reigns is on his own, he is exposed where as Ambrose and Rollins has flourished as singles because they dont have to work to make Roman look strong and carry him anymore then let him get the pin fall and all the credit for the win.
This is a great list. What will they do next though??
Something as absurd as have him beat the Undertaker at wrestlemania and it just so happens to be a retirement match and taker raises his hand & everything? Roman "Strong" Reigns overcomes the odds again!
This one pissed me off at the time. I felt that doing this took away from what could have been incredible feuds. Ambrose and Rollins ended up looking extremely irrelevant during these feuds.
It's odd because it didn't translate that way during the matches.
TBF every Shield member played to be the leader at some point, one the beginning Rollins was the focus as the NXT champion, then Ambrose looked like the indisputable leader, having to work with Taker and carrying the single title while Reigns was just a silent killer who was doing his things.
Reigns was booked so well when The Shield first arrived as well. Barely spoke, was the muscle of the group, had a good move set and that roar before the triple powerbomb was over.
Go back to less is more with him, have him cut one or two line promos backstage before matches and book him as more of a cool heel in matches. No-one's buying the sympathetic underdog route with a guy like that, he's got too much arrogance to be believable.
The Paul Heyman promo still pisses me off. You do not make someone the up and coming face of the company by insulting the legacy of stars by saying he is better than them.
Breaking the Royal Rumble elimination record on his first Royal Rumble was absolutely unnecessary and did nothing to make him more over in any way. It is now a claim that he holds which will be used as a 'Royal Rumble By the Numbers' fact they shove down our throats come lead up to the Rumble.
Yeah, and him breaking the record didn't seem nearly as dominant as Kane's 2001 effort. For Roman it felt so forced and obvious he was going to break the record.. where when Kane set it, it seemed natural because he was still a monster on a tear at that time.
Never letting him win the big one (did now, but was cashed in on)
Making him tell fairy tales
Making him say suffering succotash
Forcing him to feud with the Kane, then the Big Show
Changing his character from silent badass to wanna be witty "I earn respect" face
Title Tug of War segment with Brock
Taking him out of Authority feud with HHH that was hot in 2014
Have him booked like Cena where he gets beat up 90% of the match
Made him cry in the middle of the ring
ANY MATCH EVER WITH BIG SHOW
In matches with Big Show and other big/strong people he gets dominated
Held back his moveset seemingly (in the Shield he used more moves, then less moves and is finally using more moves again)
