The more I think about it, Wyatt is not like Taker/Kane/etc...
He's Gangrel.
He's tough from the faction's assistance. He gets some bigger matches for the group spectacle, but is never top of the card. He has potential, but isn't given the opportunity to do much with it.
Flashy entrance / cool music.
Lights out gimmicks (appearing out of nowhere, ghosts, etc...)
The lantern is his chalice/goblet.
Both dudes were on the heavy side without being Yoko/Viscera/Rikishi level huge.
Gangrel did much more awesome stuff. I guess the comparison is apt cause I always felt that after his initial appearances, the WWF didn't know what to do with Gangrel. He started as a badass leading a group and then he jobbed to both members of his group...and then they had him job to everybody.
Gangrel was a great talent. He was badass and could wrestle, had a great character but they never really pulled the trigger and make him important.
If I was a wrestler though I'd rather be handled like Gangrel than Bray. Cause while Gangrel started out as cool, the WWF quickly made up their minds that they would never push him big and he vanished. Whereas with Bray, you start him big and then you have face top wrestlers but he never really gets over for it. So it's this giant fucking tease. It'd rather be a small fucking cool memory to people like Gangrel than being a disappointment that depresses people.
Bray is like The Buffalo Bills. Gangrel is the Buffalo Sabres.
Nothing wrong with being Kane, Kane is my all time favorite.
But I still say people are writing him off early. Not like he's been on the roster as Bray Wyatt as long as say Ziggler and Barrett. If by early 2018 he hasn't been champ then panic. He only debuted around Summerslam 2013 after all.
After all isn't this the slow "let us get familiar with him" push a lot of people were saying Reigns should have got?
The Wyatt Family is a cool idea but even though Bray's the leader, it always seems like he's hiding behind the other guys, plus they've surrounded him with guys that are twice as big as him, Bray at the moment is a really cool character but we all know, he'll lose when it matters, which sucks because there's a star right there, he has it but he's booked to look like the this cowardly leader who can't get the job done
People he should've went over:
Cena,Undertaker 1, Roman Reigns, and Undertaker 2....whadya know, every single top level feud he was booked as a bitch hiding behind his monsters. Would Taker, Lesnar, Cena, Goldberg, 90's Kane be here right now if they were booked as the little engine that couldn't?? Hell no, because that's not how you produce new top stars, take a look at Marc Henry's hall of pain run, they booked him as a dominant monster by himself, and because of that booking, a credible main eventer was created over night.
1. So he should have never lost a single feud 2+ years into his run on the roster. That's the only way he can be a top heel lmao. Why doesn't going over Bryan, Ambrose, Jericho, Ryback, Kane, and Kofi count as enough?
2. Kane lost all of his top feuds in the AE lost to Taker, Austin, Taker again, HHH. Yet Kane was still seen as a threat, so what are you talking about lol.
3. Taker never won a feud with Austin and only beat Rock via DQ. Not to mention he never beat Angle in a feud. Really the only top guy AE Taker beat were Kane and HHH. Kind of equal to Bray beating Ambrose, Kane, Jericho, and Bryan
4. Why give him huge followers if he's not going to make you go through them at certain points. Did Taker look like a bitch when he had the Ministry attack his enemies? No he looked like a villain like a heel should.
This era is the 1st era where hardcore fans argue you're not a top guy if you've lost some top feuds.
Bray Wyatt is the next fucking Bray Wyatt, not Kane, Undertaker, or anyone else for that fucking matter. What the fuck is it with the IWC always fucking comparing a modern wrestler with a retired/older wrestler.
he doesn't need the "the Family" either i think that is a huge thing that is holding him back is them and if he didn't have them won a little often i think it could slowly add some credibility to the whole "New Face of Fear"
Do people really forget that Wyatt has only been pinned 4 times total by four different guys?
Cena, Jericho, Taker, and Reigns.
Sure he's not booked as credible as Taker and he's closer booked to Demon Kane booking wise, but he's still easily one of the best booked on the roster.
Can we focus on the real problem here? Like Ambrose who's booked like Reigns' Robin (if he were Batman) and not to mention the fact that he's been pinned so often now by so many people that I've lost count.
Gimmick wise, he's not exactly like anyone from before.
Booking wise, I would agree he resembles Kane the most. He has main event opponents but rarely wins.
At least Kane won the WWF Championship for a day in 1998, plus another one many years later. Plus overall his career still panned out quite good for an upper midcard guy. Bray will be fortunate if he has as much success as Kane has had.
Tbf the way I see it is that this guy used to be Husky Harris - On the verge of being kicked out the company. He's now a consistent feature and a big name. So either way he's still better than where he was.
Kane is a credible threat by his own, Bray is a threat only because he hides behind 3 big men, bray without them is nothing and he proved when he worked as a single star. You can't compare fat wyatt with kane, Kane is a legend and fat wyatt is a fat jobber who does boring promos as hell and makes people fall asleep.
I was a gigantic Bray Wyatt fan but I realize in every match he gets his ass kicked. In every rivalry besides Dean Ambrose, he loses. And in every promo, it's all bark and no bite.
I hope he finds footing with himself and creative.
There was no winner on Wyatt/Bryan, though Wyatt came out a bit stronger than Bryan did. So SLIM Wyatt VICTORY.
He LOST to Cena. Damaging loss
He WON against Jericho (Jericho won the first PPV bout, Wyatt won in the end with that feud-ending cage match).
He WON decisively against Ambrose.
Taker BEAT WYATT decisively. Damaging loss.
Wyatt WON against Ryback
Wyatt SPLIT the feud with Reigns. Maybe call it a loss. Wyatt won the first. Reigns/Ambrose won the second. Wyatts won the third (the 3 on 3). Reigns won the HiaC. Reigns won the biggest match, but all else was 50/50.
Wyatt LOST to Taker again.
That's not a horrible record. People focus too much on the losses and not enough on the wins. WWE needs to work on presenting the guy.
Don't laugh. Remember how cool Doink was at first as this Evil clown? Everybody raved about the gimmick. Everybody felt that Bourne was perfect for it? Then they turned him face and he started to suck.
Wyatt was like this, everybody raved about him and his gimmick at first. And a few wrong booking decisions later, he sucks. Cause they neutered his character completely. They made him safe and PG. Just like Doink.
And his best promo, Audience listening not heckling
"Miss Teacher Lady" awesome promo on Raw
Listen to audience at end, and Bray's reaction , you know the adrenaline rush that the audience got behind him had to be so huge that had to be one hell of a high feeling.
That's one of his best, if not the best promos his given that didn't sound like random rambling. It began in that fashion with his parables, but brought it around to a clear message at end.
I wish WWE wouldn't keep fucking him up. This is good Wyatt stuff.
Ah well... He's still a favorite, just wish Kevin Dunn and writers could unfuck themselves and stop forcing PG adherence where Bray has to beat around the bush so much with the imagery it just becomes a rambling mess. Let the dude be disturbing and sick. The Roman's daughter psychological warfare story they went was awesome. And the cool part there was no daughter or girl involved, it was just Bray talking to himself and the disturbing promos. But that disappeared after a couple episodes. Gotta stay pg. :-(
Bray will have his time. They've mostly protected him. Outside of having to be an enhancement talent to Cena no-selling their feud and Reigns being generally as wooden and terrible as Reigns is, Bray has been booked as pretty unstoppable. The random program(s) with Taker didn't hurt him half as bad as people think. Though I did think it hurt the Wyatt Family gimmick as a whole. Like...they just reformed and brought in Strowman as well. And so far their accomplishments are jobbing to Reigns and then jobbing to Taker/Kane. Back when the Wyatt Family was relevant and starting out hot, they would have NEVER booked them like that.
There was a point in time when Kane wasn't a complete joke;
But no matter how many returns, mickey mouse getups, devil-demon this, big red retard that; he'll never get his creditability back.
I wish I could say Bray had a chance, but he never had a creditability to begin with.
World class wrestler, great initial gimmick, like many.
Bray's gimmick ran out a LONG time ago for me;
Jesus it's like Bray Wyatt The Show; except instead of a multiple seasons with multiple episodes over these years; it's the same fucking first episode on repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat repeat.
He needs a bucket load more crazy, destructive moments if he's going to be the next Kane. Even though Kane's booking has taken a hit since his earlier years, at least he's always doing some mental shit - rolling people off stages in wheel chairs and being put through flaming tables, tombstones on steel steps, split personality stuff etc... Wyatt hasn't done much of anything really... Which is a shame because the character really allows for some crazy segments.
