“I’ve been a cornerstone of WWE programming since 2002. That’s a long time, it’s more than 10 years. So much so that a portion of our audience has direct complacency with me. ‘Man, Cena holds everybody down. He doesn’t give the new guys a chance.'”
“From a company perspective, as you know I hold it very near and dear to my heart, the dance floor is open, boys. I’m gone, let’s see who steps up. And I like that. As much as I want to try to distance myself or as much as someone who views me would try to distance myself from WWE, I’m never going to go.”
“Personally, and this gives me a better perspective on Dwayne Johnson’s path, you get to a certain point and you cannot attract any more fans". “Essentially, my productivity from a company standpoint … I’ve done as much as I can — 15 world championships and a myriad of other accomplishments. I don’t know what left I can do, but I still want to be able to put people in the building.”
“If I can get to a whole new audience — which is why opportunities like ‘Trainwreck,’ ‘Sisters’ and even some time on ‘Total Divas’ and ‘American Grit’ are just getting us out to new eyes,” “If a few weeks in the woods can not only get people watching ‘American Grit,’ but more folks watching WWE, then we’ve made the right choice.” “I watch ‘Raw.’ It kills me to be healthy and watch ‘Raw,'” “But at the same time, if we don’t have a future I don’t have any accomplishments. It’s cool to see the guys stepping up, it really is.”
About his absence:
“it gives our young thoroughbreds a chance to run on the track a little bit, but also lets them know I’m hot on their heels.”
Fuck such Bullshit. Step up my arse. When someone steps up, he's ready to make them know their place. And you know, you can only be credible in this company if you beat him. Think on any guy of the last 10 years that got over and how they were validated. Punk, Bryan, even Brock needed to fight Cena to be legit.
Barret, yes. Owens is delusional and thinks Cena helped him. Rusev I'm not sure, Wyatt I'd think yes because he's very clever and knows exactly what's happening.
John Cena is 100% on the money, like he always is. The only reason he's been on top so long is because nobody has stepped up and taken the spot from him. John Cena is the greatest of all time, but that doesn't mean that a hungry younger fellow can't take his spot. Wrestlers these days have no drive. They're happy with mediocrity and don't strive for greatness.
Almost entirely as usual mr try so hard to inflame others you miss the central crux of why cena is entirely wrong.
The business has changed.
Wwe does not want stars that are bigger than the brand. Cena is the last person they 'allowed' to grow to this status. They've cultured a locker room that knows its role, does not cross vince and accepts its place. Reigns is the next chosen one but he's being controlled to the point where his brand is already soured before he's champ, that's vince for you, setting fire to the foundations of the future. So when he dies there's just ashes.
He's a good BS'er, that's for sure. I mean, everything he said IS true. Except at the end of that diatribe; he left out the part that any of the young guys who do good while he is away, Cena will eventually return to lose to them once and then beat said young guy a MILLION times over.
In theory he's right. Seth is gone and Cena's gone. No one's here to hold anyone down, so it's up to the rest of the roster to step up. In reality, he's wrong because creative and Vince are hell bent on sabotaging their own roster, so due to all of the stupid restrictions and scripts, no one could step up if they wanted to.

He's full of shit for saying that. If it were true. Swagger wouldn't have been jobbed out beyond belief just for the sake of him going over Rusev at MANIA and Rusev/Lana never being the same again.
And guess what, nobody will step up because our current roster is the worst of all time and nobody has the "it" factor. And then people will blame Cena when he comes back to save the company as always, instead of blaming the talentless hacks that deserve the blame. It isn't Cena's fault that nobody is more talented than him.
Why does Cena persist in the notion that this mythical opportunity exists? Opportunity is booked by and doled out by Vince. You can't grab a brass ring that isn't truly dangled in front of you.
Cena does hold everyone down he is constately beating everyone and always hogging the spotight. And whats the point of him saying hes gone right now and lets see who steps up as when hes back hes just gonna get his spot back and whoever has it gets de pushed
We caught a real glimpse of what the locker room really thinks about big match John the night after Survivor Series last yr when he had a backstage interview with Dolph. Dolph, who'd been the sole survivor the night before, killing off the Authority at the time, was asked about it by Renee. He didn't even get 20 seconds in and Cena cut him off and went into business for himself. Dolph rolled his eyes and shook his head very noticeably. It was so obvious i thought it was a seed for a Dolph heel turn, but it wasn't. There's no way this fucker has the respect of the locker room. At least not the guys who have languished in Mid Card purgatory for the last 5+ yrs.
It's not his fault WWE refuses to give anybody else an opportunity. And stop pretending like him leaving would change anything. As long as Vince is there, the objective remains the same. Protect the cash cow, fuck everybody else.
Are we really expecting Cena to admit that? No, so of course he's going to give the most bullshit answer possible.
He decided the outcome of the Nexus match at Summerslam :draper2
Yes, I get that Vince is probably the one that makes the call, but that example -confirmed by Edge and Jericho themselves- clarifies that he has the power to decide.
So stop making excuses for him. I'm no telling that to you specifically, but I have seen quite a few in this thread saying that.
And that without talking about his terrible selling, in the mic or in the ring. That's impossible to justify. He never makes his opponents look strong or threats at all.
To resume, yes, he can be the decision maker. But it's easier for him to say that he never has an option. Well he had one, at least that we know for sure, and decided to bury the Nexus.
He just needs to change his character i don't mind him he does his job when he needs to i just want a refreshing character change..then he can squash anyone he wants its been to long as the same robotic promo good who shouts in a loud voice and kisses all the babies like a politician cena
the kids will still love you cena
hogan turned into a bad guy i still loved him as a kid, hell most of the guys i loved as a kid had a badass edge to them
Vince found Cena's replacement. It's Roman Reigns, who is clearly not good enough to take that spot.
And :ti at Vince being high on Bryan. Fans forced his hand on Bryan and now he's refusing to even clear the guy to come back because he is the biggest star he has and he resents that fact.
Guys like Wyatt, Ambrose, Rusev, Punk, Bryan, Ziggler, Owens, Cesaro and the list goes on have all been ready for a top spot but Cena is consistently booked to beat them all. They never let guys ascend to Cena's level, he always has to be above everyone. I'm not saying it's Cena's fault, it's most likely 100% Vince's fault.
John made some very salient points but as he said, the line's already drawn & those who don't like the guy aren't budging. So no matter how honest he is, regardless of the contents of any interview, it's going to be the same group of people supporting & critiquing whatever is said/done/perceived.
He basically said: They're not budging & I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I admire the honesty.
He's right about his absence being a good thing for the reasons he stated THEORETICALLY.
Whether it turns out the way he's thinking is another.
I don't know if it's him or WWE creative who has the say (I'm pinning it more on them probably), but they sure like to have one unassailable guy at the top of the heap for marketing, cross promotion outside WWE things, and the real danger is even if it's not him, they'll do the same thing they did the last decade with Reigns and book him as superhuman.
Rusev, Wyatt and Barrett stepped up and look what happened to them :cena
Honestly though if someone gets a win or heaven forbid a clean win over Cena these days there's literally no point in getting excited about it cos 9 times out of 10 he'll beat them twice or three times in a row to get his "win" back :MAD
He's such a fucking stooge that it's sickening. And don't compare yourself to the Rock. If you were attracting fans the way the Rock attracted fans, they probably wouldn't have to call the Rock every April to come fill arenas.
