I've been a wrestling fan for over 20 years. I stopped watching WWF in 1995 for a few months then came back around the time Diesel feuded with Sid. I stopped again in mid-96. I started again around early 1997 and that was only because I was hearing so much about this guy named Steve Austin. I stopped in late 2001. I think it was shortly after Jericho won the belts but that was not out of disinterest. It was due to me moving to another state and not having cable. I did however, catch WM 18 live. I started watching again around the 3 month mark of Brock's rise. June 2002 maybe, idk. I stopped again 2007shortly after the Benoit death. The product was becoming very boring and I just lost interest. I faded in and out until Jeff Hardy started to pick up steam. I stopped again in 2010 I believe it was with possibly the worst angle ever. Guest hosts. I started again shortly before the Nexus and stopped shortly after since I saw the direction they were taking Nexus. I started again when Rock came back but stopped when Miz won the main event at WM. I started again when I heard about Punk's "pipebomb." I wasn't even a Punk fan but I liked his new turn. Then they started making him full-babyface and his promos started losing meaning and I didn't like it. I stopped right after Extreme Rules 2012 only because I wanted to see Brock. After he lost I left again. Good thing considering That year was horrible. I tried coming back several times but couldn't. The product was too bad. I started again when Bryan was on his rise. Maybe about a month before 2013. My one regret is missing out on Team Hell No and a good portion of The Shield. Now I just see no point in continuing. I'm sure I'll come back but the product is so bad now. The New Day is great, I'm digging the Reigns/Wyatt angle and I'm even a fan of Rollins but The New Day can't carry a show on their own, Rollins does the same shpeel every week with Kane, and the Reigns/Wyatt feud is almost over. Orton is nothing anymore, Sheamus has nothing going on, Kevin Owens is a boring promo cutter, Ryback is so stale, Rusev's storyline is horrible. Cena's open challenge was great but he's leaving soon. Why should any of us continue?
I guess I did forget about the women lol but it's not like they have anything good going either. Paige is actually pretty bad in my opinion. Her accent is annoying and she's a poor promo
I've stopped watching Raw's live now, it's really not worth staying up to watch a three hour show until 4am in the UK when about two and a half hours of the show is usually garbage. Instead I just watch the bits that I want to see online the next day.
I usually watch the PPV's live, sometimes the next day but the only reason is because I have the Network. There's no way I'd order every PPV otherwise.
I think the vast majority of people continue to watch in hope that the product will get better more than anything.
I continue to watch WWE at present because it's the best it has ever been. The talent pool is deeper than ever before and Vince is constantly coming up with fresh and innovative ideas.
NXT. That's all they got going for them right now. RAW and RAW lite (AKA Smackdown) are the worst things on TV. Not just wrestling but overall worst shows on TV. I seen episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians that entertained me more then RAW. I strongly dislike the Kardashians.
in my case: i like in ring wrestling
the product is shitty but i love a part of the contend.
as long as i do like the physical act of wrestling i am watching.
I just read the results then watch the parts that sound, plus PPVs are usually very good it's just Raw that is boring. And anyone who watches 3 hours of Raw wit commercials is a fucking fool and deserves to be bored out their mind.
I do enjoy watching it for the most part but it is not something I'd watch if my kids were not into it. I mean they think it's great for the simple fact they really don't know better. I NEVER watch it live on TV. I will DVR it and skip through the 90 minutes or so of commercial.
I am not even opposed to making it PG-14 either. Truth is I am not sure making it PG-14 would help as much as people think especially when they keep having Cena vs Rollins matches, burying talent like Cesaro and pushing relics like Kane, the undertaker and the big show.
As a fellow brit said earlier in the thread, I'm at the point where staying up until 4am for RAW is not worth it.
Honestly, I think the only reason I do is because i'm unemployed at the moment. It gets to midnight and I think "i'm not doing anything tomorrow, may aswell stay up and watch wrestling" but every week at 4am my response is always "that was not worth staying up for."
If I had a job I don't think i'd even watch most of what WWE has to offer, there's way too much good tv to watch that 8-9 hours of wrestling a week just isn't doable.
This past week's RAW was the hair that broke the camel's back, so to speak. The quality just isn't there anymore. I mean I know it's been bad for a while but every time I thought they debuted a new quality talent to the show I thought things would change, but they always end up failing that talent after a month or two. Happened with Neville and Lucha Dragons, happened with Kevin Owens, now it's happening with the Charlotte, Becky and Sasha. I even thought with Cena leaving for a few months that WWE saw a huge opportunity this past RAW and were going to give Big E the US title, but no. They kept things same as normal.
I also think that i'm just naturally growing out of wrestling somewhat, in part because i'm kind of tired of their bullshit in certain things and it's just never been as good as it was when I first started watching from 2000-2005. I left in 2008 then came back in 2011 and enjoyed 2012 and parts of 2013 but since then i've just been watching out of loyalty.
So from now on i'm just going to watch the PPV's. Wrestling once a month (twice if there's an NXT Takeover) seems much more manageable and will curb my 'dedication' to wrestling where hopefully i'm not as critical of the show.
Oh and i'll also watch Lucha Underground but come on, it's Lucha Underground!
I don't think the product is that bad. Sure it could definitely be improved upon, but smarks and some of the IWC really ruin everything. Back in the attitude era and maybe the early 2000s this bullshit didn't exist where people shit on the product all the time thinking they know everything.
I won't deny though, I usually watch RAW online (not live), and skip through some feuds that I'm not interested in and usually all diva matches. But there are bright spots in the product right now and that's what keeps me watching.
Already stopped watching months and months ago and it's made me a lot happier. I only hear about what WWE does on here now but it doesn't get me as down. I just got to the point where I didn't care what was happening in WWE so I gave up on it.
There's so many better wrestling products out there, I don't get why people watch WWE either.
To be honest, I think it was a lot worse back around 2011 & 2012, but we now have to deal with an extra hour of it, making it seem much more unbearable.
Edit: Well, the "rise of Punk" did make those years a lot more interesting.
