I thought this was a great year for WWE. So much about this year felt fresh.

- It was unheard of for the top face to get such strong, negative reactions consistently, to the point the company had to acknowledge it, yet still stay a face. Every John Cena match had an entertaining atmosphere.

- Edge, the year's MVP.

- Ric Flair falling onto thumb tacks and off ladders. Did you think that would ever happen?

- After 5 years in WWE, Booker T revitalizes his career as King Booker, wins a World Heavyweight Championship in WWE, something many thought was unattainable for him.

- Saturday Night's Main Event returns.

- Shawn Michaels vs. Vince McMahon storyline

- Everything Mick Foley did that year

- Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James storyline

- RVD beats Cena on ECW turf for the WWE Championship.

- WrestleMania 22 was excellent with arguably the best crowd ever for an entire WrestleMania.

What are your thoughts on 2006 in WWE?

It's the year I start watching wrestling and I absolutely fell in love with Smack Down!, Undertaker, Batista, King Booker and his court, Regal and Finlay, Bobby Lashley, Benoit, MVP, Matt Hardy, Kennedy, Kendrick & London...

It was absolutely great, I loved it then and I think I'd still dig it if I went back and watch it.

Now this is a brilliant thread!
WrestleMania 22 is my favourite 'Mania of all-time. and Unforgiven 2006 is my favourite PPV of all-time. I could go on and on and on and on and on and on so I'll keep it short. 2006 was my first year watching so it remains my favourite. To say I'm waiting for the Raw's and SmackDown's from that year to be uploaded to the Network is an absolute understatement.
Just a few underrated moments that I can remember very well:

The year I got back into wrestling. Great highlights including:

-Multiple Cena title defences with passionate anti-Cena crowds

-One Night Stand 2006 (Cena vs RVD particularly)

-Edge cashing in on a battered Cena and winning the WWE title for the first time

-The whole Edge vs Cena Rivalry

-Foley vs Edge at Wrestlemania

-a great royal rumble

-Flair vs Edge in a TLC. How Flair was able to get through a match like that as his age I'll never know

-May 19th Kane

-The Armageddon 2006 tag team ladder match

-The formation of my favourite tag team ever, Rated RKO

-Carlito and Chris Masters being hilarious

- Kurt Angle having a very underrated title reign on Smackdown

-The debut of CM Punk

The first half was great but I think the second half sucked. Mind that I tapped out around August and started watching TNA full time. Raw had Cena (still believe that the top face in the company getting such a strong negative reaction not manufactured for a storyline is inexcusable in WWE's case) on it so that was enough for me to stop watching, Smackdown had unimpressive World Champions in Mysterio who lost all the time and Booker whose character I didn't learn to appreciate until way after, plus ECW was a monumental disappointment for me.

But to mention positive things, the Edge/Flair TLC Match and RVD/Cena matches are still among my favorite matches ever. And talk about that Trish/Mickie storyline, that's some women wrestling to really praise has it delivered in the ring at WM and had an amazing storyline to go with it. And remember when the "Cena Sucks" chants weren't just a fad and actually meant something?

RVD/Cena, Foley/Edge, Edge/Flair, and the Smackdown! talent at the time really showcased some good matches and the women were given time to put on some good matches. Would really want to watch '06 once again.

Loved 2006.

Edge was John Cena's greatest rival imo.

Rey Mysterio is one of my atf, seeing him win the Rumble and title at mania was awesome. I enjoyed his feud with Chavo.

Cena Vs RVD Awesome crowd.

I loved the stuff that DX was doing on a weekly basis.

Umaga, who was actually booked like a monster..

Rated RKO

The worst thing about this year for me was that King Booker character, that character was awful.

Let's get the negative outta the way. I started my hiatus from wrestling this year due to my cable being cut and the stupid crap happening(Spirit Squad, Vince vs God, WWECW being the last straw). Didn't bother to watch SD on free tv, stream or go on message boards/dirtsheets as much. I even skipped a couple Raws and SDs during the RTWM.

But I appreciated the fact that 2006--the 1st half-- felt like a mini Attitude Era. Minus the stupid crap. You still had edginess to the product on both brands. WM 22 was entertaining for what it was. Rey winning the Rumble then the belt was a feel good moment(shoulda been the main event). Edge and Kurt Angle winning both world titles within a week was enjoyable and fresh, especially Edge's moment. DX reuniting was fun and their antics were entertaining at first. The main event to ONS was great and not just because of the 2 wrestlers and the outcome.

Also liked Cena showing some balls and attitude throughout 06, addressing the negative reaction(he wouldn't dare tell folks to "kiss his ass" today). Umaga was impressive. Oh and the last great WWE in ring promo that didn't try to break kayfabe, which led to Foley/Flair:

I began my WWE hiatus after WrestleMania 19. I didn't even come back to following the company closely until 2008. In that time I watched WM 20 and WM 23 live on PPV and nothing else wrestling wise.

The year 2006 is probably the year I regret missing the most in that 4 or 5 year span. Consequently WM 22 is my second favorite Mania ever, behind 17. Watching back all of 06s PPVs it really did feel special for its time period. Maybe a culmination of the Ruthless Aggression period?

I don't know if I would go as far as to watch each RAW from that year, but all of the PPVs were decent to excellent in 2006. Rumble, Mania, and Unforgiven really stick out in my mind. Edge and Cena had a truly badass program.
