When he got injured in that New Year's Revolution match against Rated RKO, he was away from the rings for more than six months. I think I read somewhere he was going to face Cena again at Wrestlemania, but then, who would have been HBK opponent at the biggest event of the year?
Thank you for the answers, thank god we didn't get that HBK/Booker in that battle of the billioners, I think it was better suited for two monsters like Lashley and Umaga because the real stars were Vince and Trump.
Shawn vs. Edge at Wrestlemania XXIII would have been pretty good IMO.
Yeah I've wondered about this. I think it has been confirmed on Shawn Michaels dvd that the plan was originally HHH Cena rematch at WM23. I have no idea who was going over as it would seem strange for HHH to lose to Cena two years in a row at Mania.
As for Shawn Michaels no idea, I read online that he was originally going to be in the battle of the billionaires match but I doubt that. Perhaps a match with Edge or Orton.
Yeah on HBK's dvd Triple H said he was gonna face Cena. I assume Triple H would've won that match considering that if he didn't it would have been his fourth consecutive loss in a Wrestlemania main event, plus he was a face. HBK proabably would've been apart of the Battle of the Billlionaires considering that was the 3rd biggest angle going into the show. To this day it boggles my mind why Edge and Orton didn't have a 1v1 match on that card instead of pointlessly being inserted into that MITB match.
They had an 8 man MITB that year so maybe HBK would have faced one of those competitors, Orton, Edge and Kennedy being the only guys that would make sense to me.
Or maybe they were going to pair him with Benoit for the sake of a match of the year candidate
He was supposed to face Cena in the main event, I assume Cena was going to go over again, but why do it if he was just gonna retain, so maybe HHH would have went over.
As for HBK the plan was for HBK vs Booker T instead of Lashley vs Umaga in the Vince/Trump match.
If Triple H went over Cena at WM 23 it would have killed Cena's momentum. Cena's win over HBK took him to a new level as far as credibility went. I also think the win helped him expand his fanbase among the traditional and younger fans, since HBK was so beloved.
