I don't care about A.J. and the Diva's Title means nothing anyway, so why the hell not. She's improved too with the belt, so if it's given her some extra motivation to get better, then it can only be a good thing.
Deserving. No. Are there more currently deserving divas in the WWE. No. However, letting a retired wrestler have an accolade does no one any good either so for the time being it's the rational choice to pass it on.
But there are plenty of the girls on the roster that should eventually get that rub. This decision will only be wrong if the WWE decides to give Nikki the kayfabe accomplishment - but then do not pass it on immediately to the next deserving girl.
It can be argued that the combined success of Nikki Bella with AJ Lee with Paige and that girl Kaitlin whose career I missed, were the precursors of the divas ''revolution'' launched by HHH and his NXT.
These replies are interesting. Everyone's response is like "I guess so... but meh..."
Personally I hope she does, but I think she should only just beat it. Like say for example 300 days. And then if there are any other upcoming Divas that stand out, they can be given a lengthy reign and beat the new record.
Nikki is the champion and I think she has had a good run, AJ had a good run too, but this kind of record is made to be broken and WWE wants it on someone who is a current employee, I have zero problem with Nikki getting this accolade. She does deserve i. I just hope she is able to up her game against the incoming Divas and we get some really good matches out of them.
She wasn't on the main roster for most of it though anyway. It's hardly a disaster, besides Sasha is still likely to be around in five, eight or ten years, so has plenty of time to set her own record anyway.
Considering Nikki is the better talent, she most certainly does deserve it. Doesn't hurt that her reign has been more memorable and entertaining either.
Did you just call Nikki the better talent? Over AJ Lee?
To the OP, no, I don't think Nikki deserves it. I don't think anyone as terrible as her should be allowed to break anything record related involving a championship in the company. We don't live in a world where you get rewarded and crowned as the best at something you're terrible at, especially when it's pretty obvious that there are others out there better than you. I know this is Pro Wrestling we're talking about here, but just in that aspect she is as undeserving as they get.
I liked AJ and still do but it's not as if she set the world on fire during her reign. A lot of people are upset because Nikki's title reign has been lackluster but so was AJ's. You can blame booking, AJ's lack of passion and half assed feuds, but her feat as longest running Diva's champ was more by default. At times, she just felt like she had it because the WWE didn't care enough to develop the division and simply settled on AJ to be the face.
Nikki has been putting in a lot of good work over the past year and should get the nod. Sasha or whoever else can always break the record later, but the record shouldn't remain AJ's out of this notion that her run was just too epic.
I dislike the Bellas just as much as the next guy, but if WWE wants the record broken now, then who else is there?
The recently introduced girls from NXT does NOT have the credibility yet (simply because they haven´t been on the main roster that long), and those of the divas who have been there as long as the bellas are not in a position to suddenly become the longest reigning diva.
If we look back in ten years, AJ's going to stand out more as a character. So a record maybe fits her legacy a little better. But I don't think it's a huge deal either way.
They've already changed Chyna's Rumble run with Beth and Kong, and Cena is about to break Flair's record, so it's pretty much par the course.
"Deserves" has absolutely nothing to do with it. A) She's Cena's fucktoy. B) AJ hates the Bellas, so this is WWE's dopey 'revenge' against AJ Lee fucking them with her retirement.
There's why Nikki Bella is the "longest reigning Divas champ", a title which means nothing to anyone.
Yes and no. Yes, because she's improved a lot and was the MVP of the division last year. No, because WWE put absolutely no effort into her reign and they're just doing this to be petty because AJ retired after Wrestlemania. Her reign is basically defending vs. Paige and Naomi ad naseum with a stupid finish, featuring a bunch of worthless Tag Team matches.
Whether you think Nikki Bella deserves to be the longest reigning champion or not is irrelevant, if you ask me. The point is the way it is being done. It is clear to everyone that the main reason why it is happening is not because they think she deserves it or because of her wrestling ability. It is due to the way AJ left the company, and embarrassed Stephanie McMahon on twitter, so it boils down to Stephanie and the WWE erasing another part of their history by having someone quickly eclipse her, so they don't have to keep referring to AJ again in that capacity.
Pretty sad if you ask me. But the title has always been meaningless, even when AJ had it, the quicker they go back to the Women's title the better.
Pretty much. WWE's pettiness is really pathetic sometimes. Makes it easy to root for them to fail. That's why I sometimes think they may keep the belt on Rollins for a year, just to "stick it" to Punk.
