The day Cena retires not a tear will be shed.

Cena has done nothing, but bury far superior talent (using Bryan as a counter argument doesn't count because they used his arm injury as the excuse for why he lost), saying he is above than the World Title, and for all the other crap that he has done. The day he retires is a day I am celebrating because I am never going see his stupid five moves of doom ever again.

I wouldn't say this is because he "buries" people. Because I consider few people actually to have been buried by Cena. But I really do agree that when he retires, it's not going to have much of an impact on fans. I don't think they're going to give half as much of a shit as they did when the past greats like Rock, Austin, Foley, hung them up.

Mostly because he's been on top for over 10 years now. That's just too damn long. But his contributions to wrestling are nothing. Guys like Bret/Shawn who didn't draw money are still remembered for being revolutionary talents and raising the bar, and looked back on fondly. Cena won't, in my opinion. Because his time on top has been too fucking polarizing.

He comes across more so as a mascot than a legend. And that sucks, because he is a great talent. I'll definitely recall his finer work and everything, but I still don't think he stacks up well to other legends.

I couldn't agree more. There would likely be a short-term decline in business, but long-term it would be much better, as long as Vince and Dunn are retired/fired by then, and there is no more "Face of the Company" crap.

If it is split up like in the AE/Ruthless Aggression than finally star power will have no Cena Ceiling, and will actually be able to prosper and become something more. Wrestlers who get over like crazy will be featured the most and never be buried for the sake of maintaining one wrestler's current position and business contribution. Cena's the figurehead and all figures are manipulated to make him appear as the undisputed top guy from all perspectives. If your merchandise starts outselling his, you better believe you're jobbing to him or your supply will be cut in favor of his, etc.

I'm personally getting pretty close to the point of going on a sabbatical from WWE once again. Despite the fact that I enjoy a lot of the wrestlers there, WWE and their booking is really starting to wear thin on me, and I'm almost at the point where I'm apathetic to all of it. At some point I need change to continue to be interested in something, and it just seems nothing will ever change until Vince and Dunn are gone for good.

Meh. His retirement is possibly still far away from now. All it would take is one great heel run (or at least a change in character where Cena isn't a corny ass face anymore), and he'll win the crowd back easily.

I'm actually LOLing and I didn't even watch the match.

This overdramatic reaction to Cena beating one of the weakest-booked champions is hilarious. Literally just 2 weeks ago, Rollins was getting demolished by Brock Lesnar and had no business actually winning that match, but somehow we're supposed to think Cena beating Rollins clean is the worst thing that's happened?

Cena is the source of all evil. There is Hitler, there is Satan, and then there is Cena. He is responsible for every moment of frustration wrestling fans had to endure because of him. Changing the channel was impossible because Cena forced everyone to keep watching and keep giving WWE their money. And he, of course, is to blame for WWE's booking philosophy. Vince McMahon is just a figure head. Cena is the one who actually makes the decisions. fpalm

Sorry. I never was a fan of the change the channel if you don't like it argument but some of what's been said in this thread is just ridiculous. If a wrestling product frustrates you to the point that you start to feel actual real hatred and wish death on people you should consider stopping to watch it. It's okay to be passionate about wrestling but this is crossing the line to being obsessive. Not to mention that it is simply pathetic to actually wish death on a human being for wrestling reasons.

Who even feels sad at a retirement? When edge retired I didn't cry. When hbk did no tears shed. I respect all they have done but come on shedding tears? That's weak. When Cena goes he will just be replaced. His a component and nothing more, same with Bryan, ambrose, Rollins etc every member of the roster. You don't cry when someone retires you applaud out of respect. If they have done something to Merritt it. Pre mascot Cena from 05 to 07 deserves respect for keeping business afloat through the Benoit shit. Everything for the next 7 years aside from a few stand out matches is what is expected of everyone in his position. From 08 to now his doing his job as he should. When he retires unless it's from injury or him dying before 50 I won't feel sadness or happiness I'll just say goodbye and good luck.
