From his wikipedia page:

Sonnen failed three drug tests in his career. The second and third, in 2014 under the Nevada Athletic Commission, led to a two-year suspension from MMA and his firing from UFC and Fox Sports, where he was an analyst.
I'm pretty sure that had something to do with him not being signed by WWE.

Chael Sonnen has the potential to do great things in wresting because he understands how to promote himself, promote what he's doing and, should the need arise to get physical, he can do that as well. His talents give him the ability to be an announcer, an advocate, or even a wrestler, should he choose.

Hell, I would argue that Chael Sonnen is better suited to being in the world of professional wrestling/sports entertainment than we was MMA. He never could quite get over the top level guys in MMA, but that never hurt his ability to "get over".

Chael would be awesome in WWE. They would be wise to sign him when he's done with GFW.
