Could Kalisto replicate Rey Mysterio's main event success?

Kalisto is one of WWE's most promising new talents right now. He's on the backburner right now, having the slow burn in a tag team which should hopefully lead to a tag title run by the summer/autumn time.

But when that tag team breaks up, Kalisto could be set up to take the show by storm. His moves are already the highlight of every single Lucha Dragons match, giving today's audience the excitement we felt when a young Rey Mysterio first debuted in WWE 13 years ago (he also happens to be the same age as Mysterio when he first debuted)

However, can Kalisto replicate Rey Mysterio's main event success? He's certainly got the moves, although nothing as cheer inducing as the 619+West coast pop (yet). But he hasn't really had much experience on the microphone, which Mysterio had from the get go.

Mysterio was something unique, the first big time luchadore WWE had, who shifted merch by the bucket load. It's no secret WWE tried to copy that success by signing Sin Cara but that failed spectacularly. If WWE try to make Kalisto 'the new Mysterio' the same could happen again.

Also, in today's main event I do wonder if matches like Kalisto v Ambrose/Reigns/Seth/Wyatt/Owens/Zayn/Cena/Orton etc... could draw as well as Mysterios matches against Guerrero/Orton/Booker/Batista/JBL/Angle etc...

Could it be that kalisto, once he breaks up from Sin Cara, had a ceiling of the upper midcard matches for the IC or US belts, maybe the odd main event as a challenger. WWE champion though? I'm not so sure.

No cruiserweight in this day and age can go beyond the mid card because there is no cruiserweight division for them to develop legitimacy and standing in the business. Neville being the case in point, who just looks incredibly out of place fighting guys like Sheamus and Barrett with his weak moveset and 0 character. When Mysterio became a fixture in the main event, he had had an incredible run in the cruiserweight scene and people were actually more interested rather than apprehensive about how he would go in the main event scene, something which is just not possible in WWE 2015.

I doubt it. There isn't even a crusierweight/light heavyweight division anymore & there's no way he's winning the WWE Championship.

Nope. First of all, Rey was a novelty in the WWE, back in his day.

Secondly, that was when Hispanic viewership was exploding for the WWE.

Also, Eddie's death, as much as it feels wrong saying it, was a huge boon for Rey and the company capitalized on it.

Rey was the benefactor of a unique set of circumstances. Of course his own charisma and talents helped a lot too but a lot of it was external.

Wouldn't expect things to come together like that for Kalisto.

No.

How can Kalisto play the "Ultimate Underdog" card when guys like CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Seth Rollins have been part of the world title scene for years, also the people who believes Rey Mysterio only got pushed becuase Eddie died forget that Rey Mysterio was a draw for years in Smackdown, he and the Undertaker were for many years the biggest draws of the blue brand, and in that enviroment he got his push,
