How deep to gimmicks go?

Outside the fact that Axel and Sandow are pretending to be Hulk Hogan and Macho Man, which alone is now the biggest gimmick in WWE. But over the weeks, it has made something very clear to me. "Gimmick" athletes win or lose just because, there is no sportsmanship involved, and there is little to no development involved. It is basically "powers that be" telling Heath and Adam to roll over like a couple of dogs. Sandow and Axel didn't earn nothing to win except they are slightly more popular than Slater and Rose, Axel is winning because the "Hulk" gimmick never loses a battle.

So really what it comes down to, they put gimmicks up against the weaker players on the card and that is the only selling point, and it seems like people eat it up cause they know the guys facing gimmicks aren't as popular, or they put better guys against gimmicks like Los Matadores, so it becomes un-entertaining because we always know the gimmick is gonna lose.

Using this easy model to see, you can peel back almost every WWE rival there is today. I might have been more young or less aware, but back in day, every match didn't seem so 100% predictable and didn't seem so choreographed like it does today. The writing didn't seem so built around the match being a gimmick that is repeated, but rather a continuous story until played out, and then onto a new story. Today stories end, and next day after PPV nothing changes.

So Axel does his Hulk thing and it is painfully obvious what is gonna happen (just like with the real Hulk, and just like Cena). Yeah kids love it, whatever. Well I am beginning to see this in every match and in the writing, where guys aren't winning because they are superior or are worth it. No, guys like Rusev are being told to rollover like Heath Slater and Adam Rose.

We got visual gimmicks and wrestling move gimmicks like Los Matadores, the fact is, the matches they are put in, are gimmicks themselves, aka sideshows for entertainment. I might be incorrect, but it feels like the entire WWE has moved into that area where everything is just a written side show like Ringling Brothers Circus where each new town same shows, same results, but what I find worst is, I feel like they are feeding it to me like it is a comedy show?! Not just the obvious gimmick matches but a lot of the card.

At least that is the vibe I have been getting since the Network came into place. They don't want me to be like wow, Axel and Sandow are great wrestlers can't wait til they get a shot at a title, no they want me to be like "oh my god, isn't it funny what they are doing" "This is such great family fun, I am gonna go get my kid and bring them".

I don't know what you think? Have they become a Ringling Brothers Show, new towns same old show?

there needs to be gimmickception

a gimmick within a gimmick within another gimmick

only then can it be pure

Yeah I know. But some of us are slow learners. I just wanted to make sure I am not seeing things that aren't really there.

I personally hate with a passion the Hulk gimmick, it is clock work. I just get disgusted making guys roll over like they do to Adam Rose and Heath Slater. These two weren't even liked, but every fight against Mega Powers makes me like them more.

I hate Sandow and Axel more with each passing day that they continue what they are doing. I see Axel win 1 more time as Hulk, he is tostada to me, and I will never like him again. Sandow was up shit creek, and on this ice, yet he is still working his angle and sig, so he is gonna continue his gimmicks. Well I felt he was 1 gimmick past done.

That type of match setting is freaking Ringling Brothers style. At least Shield stuff actually feels like a weekly episodic story, even if things never seen to end.

WWE is all about the 'now now now'. No long term planning, just 'make it happen so we can get some quick bucks'.

Their gimmick matches are absolutely atrocious. Their steel cage matches are abysmal. Hell In A Cell matches mean fuck all. I mean, it's fucking excruciating the way that CM Punk and Ryback started their feud by having a Hell In A Cell match in the first place. Fucking stupid all round. Ladder matches follow the same old formula. I Quit Matches are a joke (see Payback).

Now we have 'brutal affairs' like Stairs Matches with Erick Rowan vs. Big Show (a fucking travesty) or Chairs Matches (Show vs. Sheamus). This company needs to stop putting on gimmick matches every month or so. It's fucking deplorable.
