Who would you choose as the perfect complete package?
In my honest opinion, it would be Cm Punk, i've been watching this guy for a long time and think he really can do everything with a mic and do everything inside a wrestling ring and also still being loved passionately for the audience no matter what he do.
Sadly he lacks the most important thing in Vince's eyes, the bodybuilder physique.
Did you miss the part of the topic where he said mic skills and in-ring skills?
Sorry, I just still can't get over the fact that there are actually humans who enjoy Cena's tired shtick and his BEYOND cheesy cornball jokes. "FUDGEBALOGNEANDMUSTARD MY LIFE IS OVER!!!" -Cena
I think it would be someone like Stone Cold. Before he broke his neck, he was one of the best in ring performers of his generation. He was also one of the best talkers.
There are actually quite a few guys that are complete packages: Rude, Perfect, Dibiase, Savage, HBK (unchained heel version in 97 and 2005), Punk, and I think Rollins is getting damn close.
Before all of his injuries, Steve Austin. People forget that he was more than just a brawler. Randy Savage and Ric Flair were both pretty much perfect, too. Narrowing the field down to people in recent years, I'd probably give Punk a mention, despite the fact that he was kind of sloppy and un-athletic, which hurt his in-ring work a little bit (it was still awesome). Daniel Bryan is awesome too, and I think his mic work is actually totally underrated.
The rock. 10000000/10 charisma and mic skills, wasn't the best of wrestlers but he's a THE total package in wrestling, Kurt Angle is a close second to me.
I don't think anyone is the perfect combination of all three of those categories. There are certainly all time greats that are great in certain categories, but I don't think anyone is perfect in all three.
Terry Funk, I firmly believe there is nothing in pro wrestling he didn't do at a level above 90% of other guys. There were better technicians, better talkers, and better drawing guys than him but no one I feel who was more well rounded as a performer.
He also was able to completely reinvent himself in his later years, even though people now only see him as the Grandfather of Hardcore and not retiring lol.
Bret had a great build. At the time he was considered a smaller guy, but he was very well built and in great shape. He looked like a superstar.
He could wrestle a good match with anyone, and he could do it as both a face and heel. With his amateur wrestling background and training with his father, Bret's technical wrestling was flawless. He could also insert the perfect amount of drama and heart into his matches, singles or tag team (being an accomplished wrestler in both).
In terms of charisma, I'll argue all day that Bret had it in buckets. The popular belief seems to be charisma = cutting promo's, that is completely wrong. Bret didn't so much play a character, he turned himself up a little when he went out, so it was incredibly easy to get behind him. He was a perfect role model for children, and his shades, leather jacket and hair, had enough 90's attitude to appeal to the entire audience.
Many will disagree with me here, but he could handle himself on the mic, too. His interviews and promos fit in perfectly with the image of himself he was portraying. He believed he was the best, and he let his skill in the ring speak for him.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be
Ugh at people saying Punk.....its Kurt Angle and its not even close. Go ahead, name another Olympic Gold medalist that EVERYONE that worked with him said he was the best they ever faced as far as fluid motions, technique, and protection. Go ahead, name another guy, who played abstinence spouting virgin, milk drinking dork, wife stealer, American Hero, turncoat, Rapist, wrestling machine all on the mic. Kurt could take chicken shit and make chicken salad. The fact that anyone could try to compare Punk to Angle is horrible and shows that the only Angle they've ever watched is "TNA Spot Monkey Angle." Kurt had a level of charisma that was unmatched amongst peers, so much so that Kurt Angle is the only goddamned heel from his era that was getting not only cheered, but CLEAN tapout victories over HUGE names, some of which that have never "tapped" such as WWE Red and Yellow Hulk Hogan. Kurt had it all, he was great at everything, and great at everything will override "outstanding at 1 thing, good at 2 others." As far as complete, all around packages in pro wrestling, it begins with Kurt Angle.
Angle had great athletic ability and could be carried to a classic match if someone with good psychology was in there with him. ANd that is why he isn't all around the best... his psychology was actually quite poor. If he had that then there would be no debate. But he was severely lacking in what was the most important part of being a wrestler. He just had the athletic, technical, and mic ability to make up for it when he wasn't in the ring with a true psychological general.
Angle is an incredibly talented athlete who tends to go off the deep end of just doing shit for the sake of doing shit (like s lot of Indy wrestlers get flack for doing) because he can even though it has no bearing on the story being told in the match. There is s reason Angles best stuff is with guys like Austin or Taker who kept him reeled in from going off and just at start doing moves just because. Angle might be a GOAT candidate in terms of sheer talent but his work did often suffer from shitty ring psychology.
I'm a pretty huge Arn Anderson advocate and yes he was incredibly talented, but I totally get why he was never the champion. He just wasn't the guy to put asses in seats on a massive scale, he was quite literally The perfect Wrestlers' wrestler and was perfect for being the guy to make others look good.
Why he never got a chance to have programs with The top guy is another story however.

Sorry, Angle could tell a pretty good story in there. The guys best matches were against benoit(another master), Brock, who couldnt call a match especially at that age, and Shane, who isnt even a wrestler. I'm thinking the same kind of bullshit surrounding Eddie is surrounding Kurt. See, Eddie was good, but Eddie's death overrated the fuck out of his abilities. No one wants to say anything bad about a dead guy. Eddie was not "that" good. And he pretty much sucked when he was cruiserweight in WCW. But, the guy dies, and people start praising him. Kurt, went to another company and became a shell of himself, but that doesnt take away from what he did, but its like people want to condemn him for how he is now.
I take it you haven't watch in a while CM Punk is no longer in WWE or even a Wrestler.
Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt are the best WWE have to offer just now. Ambrose is great but theirs just something about him that doesn't say he's a Main Eventer to me.
I agree 100%. I think Bray and Seth are the two dudes who have the potential to be huge stars. And Owens in NXT. That would be the only 3 currently who I really like. Pretty much the whole rest of the roster is just filler.
