There are a lot of wrestlers with cool badass names like Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Bray Wyatt and Seth Rollins yet "Daniel Bryan" is a very generic jobber name. Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar sounds epic. Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar does not.
Daniel Bryan...Daniel Bryan The perfect amount of syllables for a crowd to chant in cadence to. It rolls off the tongue better than Bryan Danielson. Daniel Bryan will be his name in WWE in perpetuity. It's to late to quibble on if it was a good enough name. The name is over, Bryan is over, this thread should be over...fpalm
That would be awesome! :mark: Too bad it probably won't happen, since the WWE would be afraid that it would make Bryan sound even more appealing to the fans.
Seth Rollins is an awful name. I'm actually surprised he got over with that name (same with Dean Ambrose.) Both of them seemed like deliberate burial names. Roman Reigns screamed "trying hard to be awesome" as a name, same with Alberto Del Rio.
You can tell how much the WWE cares about guys by the ring names they get. If they don't care about you, chances are good you get saddled with a garbage name (i.e., Dolph Ziggler's younger brother got stuck with "Briley Pierce" in developmental, Del Rio's younger brother got "Memo Montenegro," meanwhile guys they do care about get stuff like...Baron Corbin.)
Daniel Bryan is a fine name, it didn't stop him from getting over, but it's also not the sort of name that you would expect to get over. If the WWE had wanted to get him over, they'd have given him a cooler name most likely, or let him keep using Bryan Danielson.
Daniel Bryan is a fine name. It obviously didn't stop him from becoming the most over man in the company.
If I was in control of what each guy's name is when they entered WWE though, I'd have advised him to go with the ring name "Dan Ryu" though; gets a piece of his real name in there, has a dragon reference, reminds people of Street Fighter, and sounds badass.
Dolph actually picked that name. Dolph was his great grandfather's name, and Ziggler was suggested by a friend of his (at least that's what he's said about the situation.)
I agree he'd have been better off with "Nick Nemeth" though.
His name is perfect simple and easy to get behind. What bothers me is that they keep calling him a Goat instead of The American Dragon which sounds far more badass. The flying goat just sounds stupid.
I find this thread hilarious because the OP called Daniel Bryan generic sounding, then proceeded to list 4 just as generic names as if they are badass.
A name should be mostly irrelevant if the person is as talented as that. It's about the figure attached to the name. I understand a name is marketable but if I'm getting matches like Dolph Ziggler vs Daniel Bryan then I won't be complaining.
